    I've been reluctant to tinker with my carburetor up to now, but saw your videos and you gave me the information and the courage to try. Just finished rebuilding it today and, with only a small adjustment on my idling speed, its now running like a Swiss watch. Thank you Sterling!

    Thanks for the great video. I needed to replace the the bleeder hoses and could not see where it attached to the carb. This helped with how easy it is to remove the card to attach the hose. Keep the videos coming.

Thank you for your patience to go step by step for us non mechanical beginners. Spring Salmon season here is SW WA. in the Columbia is upon us and I'm ready to go.

    glad I found you I have a 1986 25hp 2stroke outboard, it been stored for 20 odd years and I used it this summer for the first time since and got it running pretty good, its virtually new and runs full power no problem, Ive tinkered with it as far as trying to adjust the carb but been reluctant to pull it out and clean it, as I feel it will start first time and not die here and there after a good cleaning, I also self installed electric starter and works perfect instead of pulling the cord, other fishermen have suggested I just buy a new yamaha motor to solve all problems, but as I said its basically new , just wanted to questionif the same directions apply to the 25hp motor thank you so much regards Bill

    Sterling - hopefully you can get back to me. Having a problem with the reinstallation of the coke assenbly. I did everything you showed in your video but after I screwed the locking screw back in - when pulling the choke out - nothing seemed to engage. I tried several times but can’t figure out what’s wrong. I installed the little block the correct way . When you install the block - I hear you say it doesn’t matter it’s position as long as the raised portion on block fits into the groove of the rounded portion of the choke assembly. Actually tried one last time this morning. This time I pushed the little lever you referred to all the way down and actually depressed that little button on the carburetor. This time it worked and now the choke functions as it should. Your videos are extremely helpful. Thanks

    Hi Sterling. I have a 1996 9,9hp Mariner good compression. Until recently started first pull consistently. Was idling rough so did the carb kit and did a soak and clean as I have many times but when I assembled it again it was very reluctant to start. When it did would not stay running. Eventually it refused to start at all.
    I checked spark, checked plug condition. Replaced plug wires. replaced Plugs. NG. Seemed to be dealing with a lean condition. Did not respond to start fluid
    removed carb again.....checked float, checked float adj. present idle speed screw etc reassembled...no start. At this point felt I had lost my grip!
    Tried to start again but no Go, Plugs seemed dry No gas smell after many pulls. At this point I am at a loss. It seems carb gets fuel but fuel does not get to cylinders.
    Checked bleed hoses they were clear. I have blown out the main jet several times and find no crud or blocked passages I can detect.
    Any suggestions?

    I have a similar question as kourney snigar. Where does the metal rod connect to in the back of the motor? When going to remove the carb and choke assembly, I didn't have a metal rod (previous owner lost it???). Is it important? If so, i need to find the part and attach it. Thanks.

    A good video, Sterling. It gives me a good sense of comfort with working on my carburetor. Mine is leaking fuel from the primer pump when the motor is running. Should this be happening or do you think I have a failed part or gasket?

    • @martinmarine529
      @martinmarine529  3 года назад

      No that should not be happening. You will need to replace the two gaskets that are in there.

I'm probably due for a complete rebuild (not done in at least the 6 years I've owned it). I'll look for a local Mercury dealer or can I get the carb kit from Defender?

    If you disconnect the fuel filter rubber hinge with a flat screwdriver (plastic ball) and take down the whole hand starter plate with only 3 additional screw.. you have a MUCH easier job that way.
