Easy Battery Powered Train Control for the 2x4 Top Level

- I added a Blue Line Snail controller to the top level of the 2x4 N scale model railroad and supplied power to it with a 9V battery. This way I can remove the top level, place it on any table or desk, and operate it without needing an AC adapter. However, you could just as easily supply power with an AC adapter as well.

If you want to be fancy. There was a layout built by David Smith a few years ago that had an identical control method, but he disguised the knob as a Roof mounted water tank and the Switch as a vertical HVAC unit.

It will run for quite a few hours. I had a similar set up running all day at a train show once. Depends on the battery and the current draw of the train. The small Kato pocket line trains use very little power.

Can’t remember off hand but I think it was from modeltrainstuff which of course no longer exists.
