We were living in a Golden Age in entertainment, for those of us in the 1980s. Never knew it. Took it for granted. Thought it would keep going. Music, TV, videos, video games, design...yep, those were the days. That period between about 1984 - 1987 was, arguably, the peak.
I'm Arthur Bhutic. I saw this in Early '86! Back then I was 4th Grade living in Northwest South Carolina in North Chestnut Springs 2000 feet above sea level! More than a few years after, I've moved to Houston!
it was a great time. In the 80's I finished grade school, went to high school and finished college in 1990. My entire formative years were spent in the 80's. I love hockey, even in the 80's up to mid 90's, it was the best. Everything is far too corporate and the little guy has been left behind.
I completely agree and it makes me so grateful I had a father who introduced me to bands like led zeppelin and the rolling stones etc which put me on the path of fantastic music. Of my two kids, my son who will be 31 next month followed me on that path. My daughter, who will be 28 next month, went kind of in the opposite direction and is in to hip hop, dub step, and that awful auto-tune with all the horrible subwoofer bass.
I'd Like To Lovingly Dedicate This Song To My 31 Year Old Brother I Sat With And Cared For His Last Year Here. Thanks Soo Much For All The Great Memories You're Forever With Me "Til We Meet Again Some Other Day" I Love You

I’m giving you more than alike my beautiful friend😇. I am extremely sorry for the loss of your Brother. It was a very special thing for you to be able to spend time and care for him like that. I’ve been quite shaken by the passing of EVH, and he’s not even family, but his spirit , kindness, and music has touched me forever (at 55). You have that triple bond with you and your brother and your shared music. You will see him again. Be well, and all my best to you and your loved ones. Kindest regards, Shawn in Northern California
@@chaniceanddannydavis4840I'm truly SO sorry for your loss, Chanice. 💙💛 I can, sadly, very much relate: I lost my brother far too young also; he was 22 back in '93, and also a big Van Halen fan. You seem like a genuinely sweet soul, as your brother I'm sure was as well. Let me know if you ever need or want to talk, and I'll provide you with my Facebook account name.
My condolences, so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, I lost my sister and she was my best friend to top it off. Know this ... *One beautiful and perfect fine day, when everything is just right, we will see them again.
I'm a 60 year old singer, past his prime, and i used to be able to sing all their highest songs. But when i listen to them play, especially with Sammy, it makes me tear up. So, so, so, so good. 😪 rip Eddie. One of the very best talents in the history of rock.
The chemistry between Alex and Eddie is Awesome. The Drums of Alex are powerhouse and it is cool that Sammy nails the solo and Eddie smiles as another commentor said. V.H. forever!!
Sammy, in addition to being a great singer, is an excellent guitarist. This song gave Sammy all his feeling in voice and guitar. One of my favorites. The best era of Van Hagar.
While all you ppl commenting talking about how talented Sammy’s vocals and guitar playing is your are SO RIGHT ! That being said let us not forget that he also wrote the incredible lyrics to this song ! I LOVE Roth in his day too but the SAMMY YEARS HAVE THEIR OWN SPECIAL MAGIC !! Sam and Eddie really show how they matured as WRITERS and performers since their youth. We are BLESSED to have lived through these years with ALL VH incarnations. VH will live FOREVER in music history.
I’m 51. I was 16 when this song came out. I remember seeing video on MTV over at a friends house. Little did I know back then what it means today. I play this song on the daily because it reminds me of when I was young. It brings a smile to my face every time I play it and watch this video. Sammy is so good on that guitar. My man! :)
This may be one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen by any rock band. Brings back so many happy memories of when I fell in love with my wife over 36 years ago!
Flawless performance. When Sammy was on, he was in a league of very few vocally. Rock legend. Van Halen as a band did the unthinkable. They were huge with Roth and replaced him with Sammy and became huge again. That is an almost impossible achivement. They were just that freaking good.
I was 8 yrs old when Van Halen released their first album. My uncle and friends older brothers played it alot and I remember liking it so much. Fast forward 1986, 16 years old heard "5150" and thought who gets to experience the same band twice for the first time? Van Halen will always be part of my DNA. For a kid growing up in an east L.A. suburb in southern california, man, what memories! Shred in peace Edward🎸
Dude, exactly the same for me. We are the same age. I remember hearing VH for the first time at some kids swim party, and immediately thinking,’The lead singers name is Van Halen? And they just did a debut album, but right after that, put out another? Whoa.’ Then, the summer of 86 hit. I was 16, patiently waiting for summer practice to start before becoming a freshman. My life consisted of talking on the phone all day, eating bologna sandwiches, learning how to play 5+ drum cadences, field show, street marching, and 5150 album. It seemed like it was just on a constant loop that Summer. The Cure Japanese Whispers and VH 5150. Fast fwd two years, that July I went to my first concert, performed for two presidents, played at the first game of the World Series. But that concert …I fell in love that day, and I’ve been in love since with Sam, Ed,Alex & Mikie. Monsters of Rock @ LA Coliseum. 🤘🏼
Rip Eddie! This song and this version in particular is the best purest representation of Van Halen in the sammy years! They all appear in form and in their prime! Well done boys! Regardless of the vocalist in this band, irreplaceable song writing and guitar style of EVH can never be replicated and should not be replaced! RIP LEGEND!
I will always be grateful to these guys for almost single-handedly rescuing rock and roll and saving us from the encroaching disco menace of the late 1970s. God’s speed, EVH!
Look at the smiles on Alex and Eddies faces! Listen to Sammys vocals! Mikeys crazy incredible harmony notes! THIS was the highwater mark for Van Halen my friends,, hitting on all cylinders, happy and cranking out the best rock ever. Those of us who were young and grew up with this had no idea just how good we had it at the time,, we witnessed lightning in a bottle. RIP Eddie,,, thanks for everything.
Love all four of these guys. Epic lineup. So lucky to have seen them mid 90’s. Perfect show. EVH was one more gift from God. Hang in there Wolfe and Alex. Love from South Carolina!
So Correctly said Madam.Eddie.Sammy.Alex & Mike not forgetting David Lee Roth.I feel Eddie in my Dreams he is all over my Life's best spent time 1987 to 1996. Those Golden Days will never ever comeback.God Bless.
I’ve been listening to it on pretty much repeat, everything about this song is absolutely stunningly amazing, just another Van Hagar masterpiece from 1986 ❤
Been watching a lot of this era Van Halen again, craving those days again. I remember going 3 nights in a row, to see them on their first tour together. I was so unbelievably happy Sammy had joined, and they made history. I was at their last tour, and what was originally magic, had become sad and uncomfortable. I wish it had ended differently. RIP Eddie
Best version of this song ... what a versatile band it was ... Sammy killing on that red guitar! Also my first VH song ... back in 1987 in a small college town in northwestern Bangladesh. I was lucky I guess ... finding that mix cassette tape ... changed rock music for me forever!
October 06 2020 Love walked out! Left a legacy for generations to benefit and enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of Eddie Van Halen! RIP LEGEND forever missed never to be forgotten!
Sammy was the perfect choice for both lead vocals and his old-school guitar playing. Saw him in the pre-VH era when he led his own band on hits like “Heavy Metal” and “I can’t drive 55”. 😎🇺🇸🎤🎸
Sammy is solid on lead guitar, however, Eddie is a legend for a reason. His rifs are unmatched. That said, Sammy pulling that off while singing better than I've ever heard him..... priceless . Thx youtube.
There will never be another band like Van Halen. Whether it was with Roth or Hagar. Michael And Eddie always had those great harmonies. Eddie was always smiling, R.I.P. good sir. 🤘🤘
In 1983 you'd never think Eddie would no longer with us. Thank you for the memories Eddies. This song was a huge favorite of mine and that includes the Roth era. I hope your showing the lord how to lay down a riff Ed. You live on Edward Van Halen.
I love all VH, but the music of 5150 was as inspired as it gets. Sammy crushes the solos on this one and sings the way only he can. Pure greatness that was accessible and relatable and fun at the same time. 🤘
The talent in this stage will never be seen again- I was born in 69 and the mighty Van Halen was the soundtrack of my youth- so many amazing care free days growing up in Upstate NY - God I miss those times- I no longer understand the world- RIP EVH thanks for the amazing songs
Ticks me off that people never talk about how great a guitar player Sammy STILL is. He sang, played, and undoubtedly had more charisma than that other front man had ( Sorry, Dave had his uses in the very beginning but Sammy is what took them to a whole other level whether you like him or not ).
David Lee Roth Said that with Sammy everything came from love but he David was a different kind of Animal. David always did sing like his Life was depending of it.
This song as such always makes me feel emotional and affected me even back in the 90's when I first discovered Van Halen. But today it makes me tear up even more because Eddie Van Halen is so missed and I can't stop thinking about him. I can't stop listening to his music. There will never be another like King Ed.
I don't cry at funerals or deaths in my extended family but on the day I heard , that Eddie had passed ... well , I'm not Ashamed to Admit that I Did . When I thought about so many hours of Listening to VH , added up to years , so many concerts and good times I just got overwhelmed ! It was like losing my best , party buddy ! Rest in Peace Eddie ! Drumming, not missing a beat, and singing like a boss!!!! Never get enough of this song, glad im an 80s kid🤘
Alex was always unfairly underrated as a drummer. BUT as a drummer myself I can tell you he is very very good.
These guys together were simply amazing. I just hope they at one point in their lives realized how great they were together.
Kicking ass. Literally.
These were magical……
We were living in a Golden Age in entertainment, for those of us in the 1980s. Never knew it. Took it for granted. Thought it would keep going. Music, TV, videos, video games, design...yep, those were the days. That period between about 1984 - 1987 was, arguably, the peak.
Don't forget how good Budweiser beer was. It's not the same now.
@@toddinfl I knew a _top_ Busch exec. who was there during the hostile takeover. Let's just say...you are correct.
Yep!!
Am I the only with tears running down my face. I was 8 when this was released and I still love it. Rip Edward L. VanHalen
Your definitely not the only one. Van Halen 4ever! 🎸🎸
No, I miss Eddie a lot too. That was a bad day.
I just cried 😢
We all miss EVH --- the greatest rock guitarist who ever walked the Earth
You're not, I was 12 💗🙌
This is what Eddie was all about , and should be remembered for.
He lived to make his music a reality.
In a place like America.
Those of us who grew up with 70s and 80s music are so spoiled. Todays music is a joke
💯
You are absolutely right!! 💯
Very very true .Well said.
So true. I try and try to enjoy today’s music. Just can’t. We lived through the greatest generation of music then.
No matter where your from, your age or what you listen to, theres a little van halen in all of us.
Sammy's guitar work in this is wicked. People don't know how good he is on the axe.
Dont stop crying...RIP Eddie!
met too sis, me too
I haven’t.
I cry each time I hear their songs as well as Wolfies last album. 💕
37 years old and im 55 there will never be better music and times in my life , will listen to the 80s till i die .
I'm 59 years old and I still love the band with Sammy Hagar as lead singer. Back in my 20's and today it still sounds great
RIP Eddie you are the best of all on guitar 🎸
I’m almost 62. Love this!!
Im 43 and like Hagar better as the frontman.
I am 63 and I feel the same way. Brings back the times when my wife and I were younger and in our early thirties. ❤ Comes Waling In 👍
Sammy has always been Van Halens best lead singer.
100 years from now, people will be watching this.
Awesome voice from Sammy. We can see why Van Halen hired him. Love this song.
What a band!. Each and everyone of them was brilliant at their craft. So much talent. RIP EVH. Thank you Sammy and Michael for playing on.
I'd Like To Lovingly Dedicate This Song To My 31 Year Old Brother I Sat With And Cared For His Last Year Here. Thanks Soo Much For All The Great Memories You're Forever With Me "Til We Meet Again Some Other Day" I Love You
Thank You Most Kindly For The Like My Brother And Me Share A Deep Passion For Music We Were Very Close. Very Hard Loss For Me He Was Like My Son
Forever 31
I can, sadly, very much relate: I lost my brother far too young also; he was 22 back in '93, and also a big Van Halen fan.
Reading this comment while the song begins I had a breakdown. Thinking of both my brothers and your brother. Thank you for caring. ~ M
I'm a 60 year old singer, past his prime, and i used to be able to sing all their highest songs. But when i listen to them play, especially with Sammy, it makes me tear up. So, so, so, so good. 😪 rip Eddie. One of the very best talents in the history of rock.
I was obsessed with this album. 16 years old in 1986.
This song never gets old … I am 48 yrs. We lost a great mam RIP Eddie
The chemistry between Alex and Eddie is Awesome. The Drums of Alex are powerhouse and it is cool that Sammy nails the solo and Eddie smiles as another commentor said. V.H. forever!!
It's almost like they are brothers. 😁😁
Who is giving this song a thumbs down?? One of the best that will ever be made.
Sammy, in addition to being a great singer, is an excellent guitarist. This song gave Sammy all his feeling in voice and guitar. One of my favorites. The best era of Van Hagar.
Never liked poser David Lee Roth. Needs to get over himself. Love and miss Eddie. Hagar pretty awesome addition to one of the best bands ever.
My man! :)
Love it ❤
Me too❤
This is Van Halen on the mountain top of Rock n Roll....a group like this will not pass our way again...ever...
Sammy just nails it. A consumate performance by all players.
This may be one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen by any rock band. Brings back so many happy memories of when I fell in love with my wife over 36 years ago!
The whole journey of VH still makes them THE best band of all time.
They started to sound more like Journey with Hagar.
Flawless performance. When Sammy was on, he was in a league of very few vocally. Rock legend. Van Halen as a band did the unthinkable. They were huge with Roth and replaced him with Sammy and became huge again. That is an almost impossible achivement. They were just that freaking good.
Love this song ..Miss Eddie Van Halen RIP
Whoa.’
Then, the summer of 86 hit. I was 16, patiently waiting for summer practice to start before becoming a freshman. My life consisted of talking on the phone all day, eating bologna sandwiches, learning how to play 5+ drum cadences, field show, street marching, and 5150 album. It seemed like it was just on a constant loop that
Summer.
At 60 I too am right back in this moment. RIP Ed you are a world treasure. Thanks guys for the memories in our scrapbook of life
I love this particular Van Halen song , I think it sounds beautiful live .
Im 53 and this song brings me back to some good memories in the 80's.
Rip Eddie! This song and this version in particular is the best purest representation of Van Halen in the sammy years! They all appear in form and in their prime! Well done boys! Regardless of the vocalist in this band, irreplaceable song writing and guitar style of EVH can never be replicated and should not be replaced! RIP LEGEND!
Four talented boys doing what they love with evident joy!
5150 was and always will be my favorite album of theirs!! Every track was a masterpiece!
Love all four of these guys. Epic lineup. So lucky to have seen them mid 90’s. Perfect show. EVH was one more gift from God. Hang in there Wolfe and Alex. Love from South Carolina!
Hello pam nichols, how are doing?
So Correctly said Madam.Eddie.Sammy.Alex & Mike not forgetting David Lee Roth.I feel Eddie in my Dreams he is all over my Life's best spent time 1987 to 1996. Those Golden Days will never ever comeback.God Bless.
Who is listening to this in 2024
Who isn't?
I’ve been listening to it on pretty much repeat, everything about this song is absolutely stunningly amazing, just another Van Hagar masterpiece from 1986 ❤
Me!
I am...when my Debbie walked in....I lost my heart..
🔥🤘🔥
Been watching a lot of this era Van Halen again, craving those days again. I remember going 3 nights in a row, to see them on their first tour together. I was so unbelievably happy Sammy had joined, and they made history. I was at their last tour, and what was originally magic, had become sad and uncomfortable. I wish it had ended differently. RIP Eddie
I couldn’t afford to go to their live concerts as a kid . Videos like this makes me feel like I’m there 30 years ago
We witnessed greatness and perfection here. Van Halen changed my life. I love my boys and their heart stopping harmony.
Best version of this song ... what a versatile band it was ... Sammy killing on that red guitar!
Also my first VH song ... back in 1987 in a small college town in northwestern Bangladesh.
I was lucky I guess ... finding that mix cassette tape ... changed rock music for me forever!
Born in 1961 growing up we had the best music ever!!!
Same. We were so lucky!
So agree born in 61 to miss the good old days
¡What a masterpiece¡, one of my favourite songs of VH
October 06 2020 Love walked out! Left a legacy for generations to benefit and enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of Eddie Van Halen! RIP LEGEND forever missed never to be forgotten!
This is simply a masterpiece...
No doubt. Pretty awesome for live.
Eddie was always smiling, R.I.P. good sir. 🤘🤘
This is a masterpiece, period!❤️❤️❤️
Love this song!
This was our teenage yrs. we grew up with Van Halen. Eddie with his boyish grin. It’s all gone now
In 1983 you'd never think Eddie would no longer with us. Thank you for the memories Eddies. This song was a huge favorite of mine and that includes the Roth era. I hope your showing the lord how to lay down a riff Ed. You live on Edward Van Halen.
Incredible how I never heard this song until recently and even still they can make me feel a certain way. RIP Eddie Van Halen
I think I love this even more than the studio version. So great!!! Eddie was such a great/underrated keyboard/piano player. I miss him.
RIP eddie, one of a kind human.and Alex love ur drums I was told you made the clear set yourself..wow.great fam
Hello cindy hagan, how are you doing?
I love all VH, but the music of 5150 was as inspired as it gets. Sammy crushes the solos on this one and sings the way only he can. Pure greatness that was accessible and relatable and fun at the same time. 🤘
Always was a DLR fan but damn I just love VH and Hagar, there's no denying the band with both is spectacular and I love them both. ❤
The talent in this stage will never be seen again- I was born in 69 and the mighty Van Halen was the soundtrack of my youth- so many amazing care free days growing up in Upstate NY - God I miss those times- I no longer understand the world- RIP EVH thanks for the amazing songs
It was my privilege to see them in 1984. I had no idea then. I am older and wiser now. I bow to you king Eddie. Oh how I wish I could go back.
Yeah, because they wrote more commercial music.
You ARE the GOAT
Summer vibes in the glorious 80's, then Fall 87' this album was lit & on heavy rotation! One of the best, ever! Still listening 2024!
Sammy , impresionante voz y tremendo guitarrista, es la escencia de un tiempo en dónde la música , era de verdad, un homenaje a mi tiempo .... los......... 80
Contact is all it takes
To change your life to lose your place in time
Contact, asleep or awake
Coming around you may wake up to find
Questions deep within your eyes
Now more than ever you realize
And then you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string
Another world, some other time
You lay your sanity on the line
Familiar faces familiar sights
Reach back remember with all your might
Oh there she stands in a silken gown
Silver lights shining down
So when you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string
Love comes walkin' in
Oh, sleep and dream is all I crave
I travel far across the milky way
To my master I become a slave
Till we meet again some other day
Where silence speaks as loud as war
Earth returns to what it was before
And then you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string
Love comes walkin' in
Love comes walkin' in
Baby, pull the string
Love comes walkin' in
Love comes walkin' in yeah
Aliens have pre destined our future.
I am a drummer and Alex is my favorite ROCK Drummer. He is underated. No one ever rekognizes him. sorry for my lack of grammar. Alex is just as good
I saw Van Halen with Jefferson Starship at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1978.
It was difficult to believe what I was seeing and hearing, live and right in front of me. These were people, musicians performing, live and so close to me. I had only seen them on television. It's just hard to explain, with words, the feeling and lasting impression it made upon me for the rest of my life, and the feeling is just as real, in this moment, as was in the moment it actually occurred.
