I can vouch for this. I used to work at a club in Boston when he played for the Celtics and he used to talk to the staff like we were friends for years. I don't think I ever saw him drink an alcoholic beverage. He would either get a bottled water or a Sprite.

I've never purchased a cup of coffee at Starbucks since he sold the team. The thought of him selling our Sonics turns my stomach to this day. I think he's completely aloof and out of touch with normal everyday people, and that makes for a bad team Owner in any sport. Because sports teams are more than just a business. They are a LABOR OF LOVE to good owners who expect to win some and to lose some. Both on the court, and on the books. Teams are more than just a profit margin to fans. They are family, they are BELOVED. If you don't have that passion for sports, you shouldn't be buying and selling teams!! It was only about money to him, simple as that. Just an investment. A person with that mentality should never have bought our beloved Sonics in the first place. He recently said it breaks his heart to see kids wearing Sonics jerseys. That doesn't break my heart at all! In fact, it makes me proud, because their parents have taught those kids how awesome it was to grow up with the Supersonics! How amazing they were! What breaks my heart is to see Seattle-area kids wearing Warriors jerseys, and Lakers jerseys, because they don't KNOW the Sonics! That's what kills!!! He still doesn't get it! ....not even a clue. I gurantee you, he hasn't relayed the awesomeness of the Sonics to one single child. Guarantee it! Because Schultz doesn't know people. He only knows his bottom line.

I feel like Gary is lying not just this part of the interview but part 19 also, which is confirmed now that he lied. In part 19 of the interview Vernon Maxwell claimed he was the one with the weights and hit Horace Grant. Gary Payton is giving a different story from what Vernon Maxwell is saying and calling Gary out on his lies.
Everybody in the comment section is all hyped, riding for Gary narcissistic lies, but just think about it. Unfortunately Gary is conning the audience and it could be because he is suffering from narcissistic personality disorder.

Payton describing Schultz as a con man is truly believable, from everything I seen from the Sonicsgate doc and other interviews I now him a professional waffler, personally I have no idea how someone that stupid can be successful.

The reason the Seattle Supersonics went bankrupt is because the state of Washington reflects the Canadian economy for sharing borders. So when the U.S. went to war with Iraq in 2002, it caused our country to go into inflation and the bordering cities of Canada took a major blow because the lost of its profit margin. The Toronto Raptor was able to hold on because Toronto's buying power. But eventually still lost Vince Carter and Tracey McGrady because of contracts.
