That line was rather contention in the fandom since multiple other Time Lords' TARDISes make that noise in the earlier episodes, and it's a lot to accept that they're all flying them wrong. Never bothered me, though, because it's _completely_ in-character for River to just be trolling the Doctor.
The fact that the Doctor casually mentions that the native species had two heads in this episode, but it then takes him ages to realise that the statues don't is really well done.
"You leave the brakes on" It took me until today to work out that one line is probably partly why he never arrives when he is supposed to, considering how late he was coming back for Amy....leaving the brakes on is slowing down the TARDIS
as it happens, no. The noise is actually supposed to happen, and others do it as well. It's been confirmed that one line was actually just River messing with the Doctor. The real reason he's never on target is because the TARDIS was an old model that was malfunctioning when he got it and apparently wasn't very precise when it was working as intended. It's left open to interpretation whether the Doctor has been unable to fix it or just finds it more interesting to have it be quirky. There's also a theory that the TARDIS is taking him where he needs to go rather than where he wants to go, which has enough evidence to be credible, but would also be a malfunction since that's not the intended use.
Nice piece of continuity: the gravity globe in this episode is the same thing they used to light the underground cavern in The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. One of those tiny pieces of world-building you don't need to explain to a new audience that makes a lot of sense to keep consistent.
I've seen screenshots from a brilliant prank someone once played where they changed someone's desktop background to cycle every 15 minutes through each image of the Angel in the recording getting closer and closer, so when the target minimised their browser every so often they'd see that the angel had moved.
lol I didn't think he'd "forget". I just thought the story was so strong and left such an impression that I wasn't sure there would be an immediate follow up. Not sure I wanted one. I really loved the idea of someone showing up who the doctor won't meet for possibly hundreds of years. I did figured Stephen Moffat would follow it up, I just didn't expect it so soon.

I 100% agree with you. Alex Kingston gives River enough sass to keep up with the Doctor without ever overpowering his energy. As an actor that must be an incredibly fine line to walk, yet she nails it every time.

Final resting place of the headless monks? I never caught that line before. Such a weird idea. Also - the images of the angel on the TV were made into a screen background for a computer I was using on a temp job. Each time I would close a window and see the desktop the angel had moved. Honestly, having had just watched these episodes only a few months before, it was both cool and creepy. It did honestly give me a jump scare once when I turned to the screen and suddenly saw the closest image with the teeth.
Chris, your Doctor Who reactions are pure joy. You bring (imo) the perfect energy to the show. You're always open to whatever story the show wants to give you, and when you get one you've (WE've) hoped for, the sheer glee is exactly how we felt the first time too. The tears in the Doctors eyes when he is talking to Angel Bob is such a nice detail. The writing here is so good!! Lots of details and little things that are picked up in the future. Some pretty soon and some things that are still being cooked on by Moffat. River is such a great character so I hope people let you learn more about her without spoiling any story beats. This two parter gets a lot of criticism but I think the writing is all great, they just had some strange decisions. Im so glad you didn't pick up on the opening being River until they pretty much spelled it out for you!!! I love the surprise to see her so soon. I also wanted River to be a character for a far future Doctor but starting her story here was a **necessity**. Moffat had a lot!!! of things to set up during his tenure and he often plants seeds weeks/months/years before he's ready for deliver.
River wasn't written to set up anything as he was already writing her when he was offered the job, but... He was offered the job whilst she was immediately fresh in his mind.

Keep the line about River learning how to pilot the TARDIS on a day the Doctor was "busy" in the back of your mind. There might be payoff in a later story.

River Song is what really this version of the Doctor so memorable, along with the Girl Who Waited and the Last Centurion - oh, fish fingers and custard.
I'm not sure Moffatt actually did intend to continue River Song's story, at the very least she was conceived of as a far-future friend/lover of the Doctor rather than a near-future one. There was certainly plenty of foreshadowing in Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead, but it was mostly foreshadowing without really knowing what they were going to do with it. Here, though, we see foreshadowing that feels a lot more concrete and rooted in future plans (and I'm not just saying that because I know what's coming, it's how I felt about it at the time the "spoilers" all felt more real than the ones revealed in her first/last episodes, the first from our and the Doctor's perspectives but the last from hers as a living person).
I did a whole "eeeeee!!!" when I was watching this and realized it was a River Song episode. Might be my favorite character. Is she? Maybe so! If not, I'm drawing a blank as to who I love more. So many things I would like to say, but I can't. Spoilers. But I will say, after watching all the River Song episodes, this one is important because it's Amy Pond's first meeting with River Song. I did watch miracle day early. There are no significant crossovers and I don’t wanna make torchwood fans wait months between seasons plus finishing the spin offs frees me up to include some content I’ve been super excited to get to.
