Trump's lack of understanding of global politics, egocentric grandstanding and fondness of dictators is viewed more as his personality and opinions, not necessarily representative of America, all of it's people or the will of congress as a whole. Basically, we're just riding this out until someone politically competent is elected, of either party. Well ok, but, he's still president for 5 years. He did achieve the promises that actually brought him votes, like the creation of jobs for the unemployed (mostly by virtue of the global economy being favourable), so I don't think the biggest group of Trump voters will switch.
Though nominating Trump again might bring out more uncommitted Democrats to the polling station (must be a crazy thing to talk about for an Australian), so maybe? IDK, but him staying for 5 years must be at least considered.
