      Great find - They are going for over $300 now on eBay as of 03/11/19 - seems like prices jumped a bit in the past six months... personally I think it’s great that more people are going back to analogue/film and less digital - look forward to you posting some footage...

    My kittens knocked over a box of my dad's stuff that I inherited this morning. In the box was this camera. I force fed it some AAs and it fired right up. I have no idea where he got it of where or was since I was a kid. He never shot video of us. Anyway, I'm buying film, and I'm shooting it!

    It's a beautiful and amazing camera! I purchased one for $6 last year at a thrift store. I've run 4 rolls of film through it. All spectacular stuff.

      Definitely the best camera I've ever owned. Unfortunately, the last one I had that was my go-to camera got stolen, and they've been hard to come by on eBay, for some reason. At least in the price range I'm looking at. I like it a lot better than the one Canon replaced it with, the 814 Electronic. I owned one of those, and the trigger went bad on it. About the best thing to be said was that it supported all of the film ISOs in the Super-8 spec, even though most of them weren't even available yet.

    That film is most likely the late, lamented, Kodachrome 40, probably the best Super-8 film ever made until Kodak gave us Vision3 50D.

    How the hell did I manage to end up back at the same channel that made the “shots of a banana in a drinking glass video” years after subscribing to you guys-somehow by entirely unrelated means. I just started getting into super 8 stuff and was checking to see a good overview on the camera. what a coinkidink

    Hey, I have that too, but it was modified with a Max8 gate but not a recollimated viewfinder. I desperately want to modify the lens to fit c-mount lenses.

    The thing on the back you didn't know what it was is how many feet the film uses. 50ft is when it's finished.... do you have a video of the footage from your film?

    Hello, Allan! I have Canon Auto Zoom 814 Electronic. It slightly different but they both have the EE system and exposure scale in viewfinder with a needle. Can you explain my, how to use this exposure scale in EE mode? In the user manual they say that when the EE/Manual rotating knob is pushed in the needle should indicate the proper exposure when the record trigger is slightly pressed. In my case the needle is always on the right side of the scale, it doesn't move no matter what. I've tried to change the location and settings of a shutter angle. But the needle is on the same hard right position. It only moves when the EE/Manual knob is pulled out. The power is on, the batteries are ok, the motor works. I just wonder, is that me or the gear?)

    • @cubdukat
      @cubdukat 2 года назад

      @@NebulousFilms Yeah, but don't look at replacing it with anything else but another 814E lens. This isn't that kind of movie cam. You're more or less stuck with what you get.

  • @punpun9972
    @punpun9972 6 лет назад

    Does it accept modern vision 3 filmstocks?

    • @cubdukat
      @cubdukat 2 года назад

      It does; in fact, it's one of the few super-8 cameras that can actually meter all of the V3 and Pro8mm stocks correctly. The only thing is you need to make sure the motor's well-lubed. Negative film is thicker than the reversal films that were around when the camera was new, and if the motor's not in top shape, it may have problems pulling the film through it. I had that happen with my 814E, but after I had it lubed, it worked perfectly.

    Hi, I just bought the exact same camera and I can't figure out what kind of film works with it. What kind do you use?

    • @cubdukat
      @cubdukat 6 лет назад

      Any available Super-8 stock will work with it.

    • @ozpierre17
      @ozpierre17 6 лет назад

      If you want to project them, just buy reversal films, negative won't work. Kodak is still making black and white reversal, also Kahl company make colored reversal films "Kahl 200d UT18" developping included.

    Is the lens removable?

    • @allanhazle-VideoGuy
      @allanhazle-VideoGuy  7 лет назад

      it isn't removable by any kind of quick release switch, you can unscrew the whole camera and take it apart, at that point you could probably remove the lens, but I couldn't imagine it would be mountable to anything else without some hardcore adapters going on

    • @allanhazle-VideoGuy
      @allanhazle-VideoGuy  7 лет назад

      also the lens has a 58mm filter thread, so you could attach some ND's or closeup rings on it.
