Wasn't boring at all. I learned a lot from this video. Loved the in-depth analysis of the engine.
super excited to see this video, there's almost zero to none videos about CUAA on RUclips lol
They are quite rare really!
I had a 2016 BMW 125d with a 2 litre bi-turbo engine and stage 1 made 284ps 610nm. stock was 224ps and 450nm was a rapid little car especially with little weight of the 1 series
All the stuff that makes ya popular at parties lol ,very interesting CR ,good to see some future figures 👍😉
Very Interesting stuff. Always fancied the BiTDI Passat with a Tune as a real Sleeper Car that, like you said, most folks wouldn't look twice at.
They are rare though used at a reasonable price.
I've the exact car BITDI 4MOTION, fantastic piece of kit even as standard, torque monster 👍
Not going to lie i love my jetta 2.0tdi!! Straight piped and tuned !
Man this guy knows his shit. Great video.
Reading all this and realising how ancient my B6 PD130 has become
Simplicity is sometimes better!
@@DarksideDevelopments the PD130 is probably the best diesel engine ever made (even though it does sound like a tractor)
@@nonegiven9579 * 1.9 TDI laughing *
@@nikolavuckovac2429 PD131 is 1.9 TDI...
@@Random-nf7qb he meant 1.9 TDI non PD, as in AFN or ALH
👍🏻
Darkside, know their onions.
That is actually a really nice looking car
We had a company director leave his in the south of france after he resigned and just posted the keys back to work so I flew out and drove it back! Absolutely amazing car! Loved every second in it! Was sad to hand it back.
He sounds like a chopper! they are decent cars!
Interesting video. Here in the states the only Diesel engines that get love are the ones in trucks. After time in the 🇬🇧 and Europe i got interested in TDI engines because so many had them. I enjoyed them because they produce amazing levels of torque
I have a Tiguan with this engine and even at standard it is so quick, looking forward to getting remapped to 300ps soon.
You know where to come!
@@ryanp6138 but can you get it close to 300ps with just a remap no other changes??
If someone says they can get more than us they are tunring all the temp protections off so dont just chase a figure, the dyno is mearly a tool.
was looking for summit to watch whilst having lunch, nice one ryan. some rather amusing quotes in there too.
my friends dad has one of these fully optioned. very very nice car (coming from a mercedes owner). the stock engine pulls very hard
Damn, i love listening to this guy talking.
WHAT!!! A Bi-turbo TDI. I wish I had that for my 2015 Tdi golf.
Absolutely absolutely love my 15 Jetta TDI!
This channel is excellent!
Hooray, got my morning dose of Reyt Then. Thanks Ryan. Love the Passat too.
Fantastic video and well detailed and spoken, loving the accent as usually!!
Cheers
Crazy knowledgeable 🤯
Damn you really do know your stuff impressive. its a shame most tuners aren't as interested in the engineering as you guys.
It would be nice to see a video of a TT when you get one through hairdressers need fast cars too!
Not boring, great to listen too 👌🏽
I Hope you soon will be working on that engine (not that in particular) and see where it can go with bigger turbos
My W205 C300D is doing 280bhp on just a remap, was 245bhp as standard though so not a massive jump. This Merc engine is also 2 litre.
This is a great engine, intake pressure drop is really impressive. Lots of back pressure from the SCR system and back boxes though - lots of potential to drop the EGT with an exhaust!.
If you ran the engine on a slower curve on your dyno you'd find the egt's even stock hit 830!
BMW B47 25d engines had 2500bar in 2015 also! But only got to 230hp (in the X3/5 etc) and used a CP4.1 - for big power makes it more of a pain as retrofitting of a rail and cp4.2 required! BMW also had twin VNT where I think the passat was only single VNT.
Its a shame the arms race is over with TDi's!
Darkside Developments - yeah the only arms race left isn’t going to create higher specific power diesel engines that’s for sure!
@@mwh2412 It will be lowest NOX until we find a different pollutant to tax and demonise! CO2 is old news now...
@Darkside Developments Yeah, look up how much NOX is now allowed to get out of the exhaust per km. And then look up how much NOX is allowed in work spaces like offices, workshops, or even restaurants and such. And then you ask yourself how in the f can they justify such emissions standards?!?!?!
Oh I just remembered, a german court just ruled the "Thermofenster" as illegal. I don't know the english term for it.
Pure insanity and the end of cars.
Watch the S4 video, how much it is pushed from factory. I don't see how these S4/S6, and other VAG cars with this engine, will last past 60.000 miles. Just unbelievable.
My cc manual is such a great all rounder
always well explained, plainand simple.
"he just brought it in ... he just wanted" oh I've been there, and had my majic plastic with me a slippery slope cheers for another lovely vid.
"the customer's not a boy racer" ... I suspect "the customer" has found there's pleasure to be had driving around in a non-descript saloon BLOWING EVERY OTHER ROAD USER INTO THE WEEDS.
Magnifica máquina 👍🏻
Pasar es un auto que me encanta, y con ese motor es magnifico.
Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
I have the 240 Tiguan, lovely smooth engine, not opened it up much as the mileage still under 2000,I always run them in slow,my kids call it a old guys car,and I am an old guy,but thank you for saying the engine has all the party pieces, might give me some credibility 😁,don’t think so.Great video as usual, can’t wait for the one when you remap the gearbox.
I have the same car , but it's a R-line estate version, is really a awesome car indeed :D
Thanks for this video, I've been looking at this engine in a tiguan 👀👍🏼
I want one now 🤯
As a b7 Passat owner... With the poor little 1.6tdi engine... This was REALLY cool to watch. I've been thinking about a b8 BiTdi or GTE next time potentially. I've heard however that the BiTdi engine is reeeeeeally complicated and tends to cost more on maintenance and repairs.. looks fucking mint though
B7 With the 2.0 here in the states
Its crazy that the 335D is making these numbers stock lol
It's all in the option with new cars. If you fit the right options/colours they get a completely different look 👌
Bloody hell pulls like a train!
Another perfect craft! keep it up.
Love the geek stuff. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing
Q: How do you know so much stuff about diesel all the time? And what I mean by that, you really know the new tech and how it works. Do you read about it or do you take things apart? or both?
Both, being interested helps! Haha
@@ryanp6138 hi, just about to buy a 2.0bitdi transporter 2017. Any advice? Should I avoid or just few things to look after (110k) Thanks in advance 😀👍
Love this kinda content!! Keep it up! ☺️☺️
Really interesting as i am lookig to get the 2020 version of this in the newer body shape in estate form, not boring at all, so few go into all the detail this review did, and that is a real shame. I am looking for a review of the newer passat with this engine, but its on the very top of my list when a good, low miles one comes along, in DSG of course.
0:08 aaaahhhhh, the joy of the German Autobahn😊 (or an airfield)
Wish we got 4motion TDIs in the states. Can't wait to do the Malone Stage 1 on my B7
Very interesting Ryan. I might have to look for one of these in a tiguan
Wonder if those new turbos that push 2.8 BAR stock would do nicely in 1.9 PDs and VEs
of course 1.9 are beasts, my uncle put a turbo from a 3.0 tdi touareg on his vw bora
3bhp and 20nm more than my twin turbo Volvo D5, damn it!
mine is a Alltrack Variant. Fucking love this engine. its a sleeper id say... it just goes
They need this engine in the GTD if they want it to compete with the GTI!!
Would be good!
Darkside Developments . What’s the scope for fitting this engine in a mk7 Golf GTD?
I’d love to see somebody do this.
@@OlkjU287 VVT in the Netherlands did it. And said he would never do it again! Way too much wiring and coding.
In Belarus, we swap this motor on the Porsche Cayenne, Touareg and the like. It's a great motor.
Send some links please!
5:00 Since the injectors are all fed from a common rail how does changing the angle on the pump do anything?
The pulses come at the right time for the injector opening so the rail pressure wave is utilised and pressure fluctuations minimised :)
It sounds good in this video especially considering it’s a diesel.
Bloody brilliant video.
I wish I could find somebody who would do such an in-depth break down of the B58 engine in my M140i.
There's already a very good in depth engine tear down on the B58 on youtube, just search B58 supra, you'll find it.
@@RealGX Awesome info, thank you.
Dark side development is still tuning cars in this ev era ! Long line the Ice engine.
Fantastic stuff
I once got pulled over by an unmarked Dutch police one of these. Still scare the crap out of me
This engine in a quattro Audi TT. It would be a riot.
This might be a plan...
You shud always use a torque plate and fit and torque the main caps for boring and honing..
I have one just like that just as a stc. And its drives perfect..
I was thinking that car has an OK'ish 0-60, but wasn't as fast as I thought it would be
Took me about 2 seconds to realise the speed was in mph >D
Thank you very much for all the info. I own a Skoda Kodiaq TDI 190 Stage 1 with 223 HP and I was wondering which are the engine difference between the TDI188bhp and the Biturbo
Bi-Turbo is totally different engine.
@@DarksideDevelopments Yeah! I thought it would be more similar (apart from 1 more turbo) given than the power figures between the TDI 190 + remap are not that far from the stock biturbo but it looks like a much more complex engine. TBH I don't know why they went all that way and if maybe they could have achieve something similar in terms of performance with just a one bigger hybrid turbo?
It's an emissions thing!
Fancy getting one of these next year but not much cheaper than a 335d 🤔
Interested in what the 0-60 is, standard vs remapped?
Never liked the passat, but the past few generations are really nice.
Great video, very interesting!!
And the jaguar 25d engine also makes 245hp and 500nm as well
So knowledgeable thank you
Awesome information, cheers. I have the estate variant. Would love to know if you guys manage to stage 2 one.
We have a few booked in!
Exactly the same car as mine , i having problems with the turbo at the moment, when im putting my foot down on the motorway (hard acceleration) its getting upto 80 , 90mph then going into limp mode does anyone have any ideas what this could be iv been told i may need a new turbo 😫

I know this is a old video but maybe I will get lucky. Will this motor fit in the Mk7 golf? I have US Spec 2015 TDi 2.0l I’m aware some modifications will be required. I guess my question is will the motor fit properly? I’m so jealous of your endless Diesel engine options you guys have! I love the channel I could listen to you ramble all day.
Should be able to. We fit a CUAA into our Mk5 golf so
@@DarksideDevelopments Thanks for the reply. That’s good to know, the CUAA is superior I need it!
Another question. Will the larger charge cooler form the CUAA bolt up to the CRUA engine?
No :(
Impressive!!!
I live in the states. Wish we had the TDI still. I still don't understand why we don't have the 4motion.
Anyone else thinking... "thats a lot of stuff to go wrong" ?!
I was!
Hi I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me please. I have a bmw 325d e92 2010 lci and I’m thinking of either removing or gutting the dpf. However will this cause it to fail the emissions test when MOT? I know visually, removing it would cause it to fail. Also will removing it cause any issues electronically? EGR etc.
Any helps appreciated
Love bi tdis, would be good to see what you could do with the BMW 125D/225D.
I wish we had that car in Canada
The biggest question is it possible to fit the engine in to a Caddy Van?
It is possible 😉 - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/caddy-mk3-2-0-tdi-common-rail-cuaa-4-motion/
Nice... I’m buying it
I’m picking mine up Saturday. Do you guys want to tune it 🙃
Of course!
Not a bad way to spend $10,000... Seriously though, that thing is super clean!
Do you think servicing and maintenance would be quite a bit mor expensive due to everything being crammed? Are they reliable?
They seem to be reliable from what we have seen so far. General servicing is not too much difficult compared to a normal 2.0 TDI
@@DarksideDevelopments thanks for your response
I wanted one of these ended up with a octavia vrs tho but would have loved to have got one of these l
I've got a stage 3 pumaspeed Focus st diesel with 278 bhp and 580 nm
I don't think they make that power!
@@DarksideDevelopments They quoted me 280 bhp and 600 nm, their development car is 280 and 600 nm
so... equal bhp with a standard S4 B5...no doubt shit ton more torque too, Nice!
Edit: and has more torque than my Stage 3 S4 :O
2 years on has it had any issues? Be a nightmare if something breaks on it
No issues since!
That sound great for a diesel
Nice! i got a EA288 with 150ps... the Maximum is 180ps without any Damage, because the Heat is the Limiter, right?
Yeah, EGT's get quite high early on in them. Got a blog on tuning that platform here - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/Blog/mqb-platform-ea288-engine-tuning-184-cuna-cupa/
Is this the same engine as the 2.0 bi turbo in the crafter 2018+?
They might be similar but they aren't the same
Great increase
Really wouldn’t mind one of these. Wonder what you could push it by removing all the emissions stuff
I doubt a lot more but 300hp would be nice!
about 300hp and 5sec flat to 100kmh or 62mph which is excellent for 2.0l diesel engine honestly
a failed mot
No Name 🥱

is the same engine 2.0 BiTDI 240hp but single turbo Right?
It is yeah, we've got a 3 part series on the BiTDI CUAA also , here's part 1 - ruclips.net/video/fnzODRe1efg/видео.html
omg I never clicked so fast into this video! liked and straight to full screen lol I have this car and the same colour too but sadly mine is a 1.6tdi 120 :( those new tdi's look like a mares nest under the bonnet but they pack serious power and efficiency I reckon the 2 litre the same as octavia vrs? these B8 passats are the future.

What is a safe remap for my bmw msport 4 series 420 187 bhp scared of flywheel blowing been told 245bhp
They make 220hp, turbo limited
Should the remap be safe on this car then
Yes if done correctly
i have shy off 330 hp in mine good build
Not on a good Dyno!
whats your opinion on this engine reliability? twin turbo 2.0 diesels have kind of a bad reputation
We dont ever repair these but they are also not super common like a 123/125/x35d or Bi Turbo A6 but those are reliable too really.
