- This is part of our new Builder Kids series where the kids come up with an idea and we build it. Siena has been wanting to build a birdhouse for a while now, so we finally did it. This is fairly straightforward project with tools that most people will have. You can start with a pallet or some 1x3s from your local lumberyard. Actually, you can use whatever wood you want and then just adjust the dimensions accordingly. This birdhouse turned out rather large. It's more like a bird hotel ;)
Either way, you'll need:
*Compound miter saw, circular saw or hand saw
*Hammer
*Tape measure
*Pencil
*Square
*Nail gun, nails, or glue
*Drill and bits (if you want to drill a hole for the birds, or to install a perch)
Let us know what you think of this video and the new series. We'd like to know if you want to see more or less detail, if you like the length of this video or would like for it to be longer or shorter, and what builder ideas you have. Post whatever ideas you have in the comments section below and I'll let the kids decide what they want to build next! Thanks! Авто/Мото
the guy on the orange cap is the boss 😊
Good job guys
Love how you’re so wonderful with getting kids involved throughout the project! Inspiring parent 😁😍
Thanks for the new series of videos' . Lot's of kids would enjoy helping on a project like this and they learn a lot more than just nailing boards together. Great idea!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Let us know if you have any more project ideas for the kids!
This was a cool a video
Just need to raise the entry it so easy to loose a egg or little chick , still an excellent, family video. Nail holes could have served as air circulation .
Great point. This was our first attempt at a birdhouse.
What gauge and length nails are you using?
18ga. 1-1/4"
How do you connect the midde piece of wood where the door is?
I ended up toenailing in a few nails (shooting them in on angles). If we did this again, I think I would make the bottom boards longer and let them hang out the front so the birds had a ledge to land on. You could then just nail up through them into the other wood. But, this is how my daughter designed it, so that's how we built it.
caution! some pallets are treated to kill bugs. toxic to wildlife, also.
and don't use toxic chemicals (paint, sealers), either.
what is the name of that pallet fork??
It's just called a pallet buster. I bought the fork portion and then bolted on an old floor jack handle.
Should have put the perch under the hole lol
Yep. That's what happens when you're in a hurry and let your 7YO draw the plans, though ;)
