Great video just one thing I would like to add. As a CDM you have to take runs like no other player on the pitch. When the team is going forward you also go forward to support the passing play. When the team lose the ball, you're probably the first player that needs to run back to protect the defence. A high level of stamina is required for the CDM position. If you get tired easily by making runs, this is not the position for you. It's probably one of the most important positions on the pitch linking both defence and attack together. Sort of like leading an orchestra without taking the headlines. We let the forwards get the fame and glory, we're just in it for the love of the game. Sincerely, a CDM.

As a CDM I play a mix between modern and classical, where I mainly stay in front of the defence but I do go forward but not as much as a modern CDM. Disagree: this is a “defensive midfielder” position you’re talking about. First passing priority should be to find your creative partners, not to find the goal scoring opportunities on a long pass which would most likely end in losing possession. It’s more important to have the right people do the right things. CDMs should focus on winning and keeping ball possession, and putting the more creative and attack-minded people in the position to do what they’re better at.

I think that the main key for any position is confidence, a right amount is perfect were u know u can do something but don’t do too much, I have lacked greatly in confidence since I joint an academy and since leaving still haven’t got my confidence back, some games I just end up trying to fight which for some reason helps my confidence greatly, I used to be perfectly confident and in my opinion was a good player, but I thought I had lost my touch in football until i realised how scared I got when I got passed the ball and don’t know how to get out of that state of mind, it’s really hurt my football and would love to gain my confidence back but don’t know how
Hey guys, I like your videos a lot, but this one has practical mistakes. In a real match, as a CDM (in some languages you call it a 6, I mean players like Toni Kroos, Gündogan, Julian Weigl) you'll always be pressured, meaning that most of the time you'll have to kick the ball back to the defending line and make a fast move to gain space. This at least is how it's practically being played in europe. You won't be given the time to turn around and make a pass on the first ball you get. Not even in the lowest leagues here ;) But like I said, other than that, I like your videos a lot and you helped me very much! Keep up the good work guys :)

One thing I have a problem with is a Defensive Mid is not necessarily launching attacks as his primary duties are DEFENSIVE. You're assuming on top of a CDM they're a deep lying playmaker. Pirlo has a killer pass but I wouldn't leave him back like Casmiero or Busquets. A player like Pirlo is partnered with a CDM or a player like Vidal to provide cover for them and give them a short outlet so they aren't forcing the long ball.
Your point is right but a CDM's most important role in a game is to break an attack and protect the ball before it gets to the last line of defense. That's when his team is on the defensive. But how about when his team is on the offensive?? Of course he is supposed to move the ball forward, IF SAFE TO DO SO, and in doing so he is creating an opportunity to go towards goal of his opposing team. And even a goal in the way.

It didnt state here.. but i think the most important thing to do as a CDM is to Scan.. you should scan every 2-3 seconds.. of opponents and your teammate.. then make short simple passes.. dont try to overcook it.. let those AMs make the hard passes.. you just keep it simple.. and another thing is, your positioning should be top draw.. you need to position yourself mostly at the center circle, maybe a bit towards your area of the pitch.. and cover your back four well, if any of them is out of position, especially the fullbacks.. it's a little hard to play on the wings since you aren't good at long passes and strong shots. a center defender would be good but since you are good at dribbling and can do skills than a false 9 would fit you great

CDM is my favorite position, it needs a simple but efficient play. I've never been good attacking, but I like to make filtered passes and one touch passes. I like to run trough the central lines to find better passes with fast changes of direction and I like to defend everywhere. But I'm a shit scoring except for headers

Happens all the time in amateur football. You don't need to mark a player necessarily, you just need to stop the biggest threat within the area of the pitch you are responsible for. +pimpekfun I believe being a CDM is more than man-marking a player. As stated in the video, you have to keep track of the gap between the opponent's attack and midfield. Once you understand this gap from your opposition, I believe that you'll know what course of action to do.

I need help with marking, I feel that 3 players on my team are telling me 3 different players to mark at the same time ( I just started playing the 6)

This is my second year playing soccer, I never played as a kid and I’m a sophomore right now. Both my freshman and now sophomore year I am playing cdm. Ik I’m europe they have a different playing style so what are some tips playing against high pressure defense? My older brother has been playing his whole life so he’s been teaching me what and what not to do and now watching this is really useful
