  • I painted this portrait on a rare rainy day in Southern California. This small oil painting of Erna was done on a 5x5 inch linen panel made by Artefex.

    I really appreciate the loose brush work with large brushes and the commentary about blocking in large shapes that will absolutely help me stop over-working the details of my paintings. Can you include some commentary of your color theory about how you decide what colors to use as your abstract back grounds that you lay in prior to your starting the sketch work. Thank you Sir.

      Thanks! I go back and forth between smooth panels and linen. This little painting in the video is on linen, but the majority of my work is on gesso primed aluminum composite panels.

    I'm so curious as to know how many brushes do you use in a painting like this? do you change or clean your brush every time you change the color? Thank you!

    • @talbertart
      @talbertart  3 года назад +1

      I probably use on average 4 brushes per painting session, but it can be many more if I'm going from broad strokes to tiny details in one sitting. I wipe my brushes off constantly with a paper towel and occasionally I will clean with Gamsol if I need them even cleaner. I'll try to do a whole video just on brushes soon! Thanks for watching!

    Hello Matt, this is wonderful work, the colors and texture are a great components on your piece, despite the small area, you were able to detail it very well, this is really beautiful, like # 28.
    I do have a painting channel if you would like to take a look and become a friend it will be really appreciated! Thank you so much for your time!
