This time, we're covering the Mk 48.
The bigger brother to MW3's Mk 46, this fully-automatic LMG is a higher-calibre variant, and is the first LMG unlocked.
The Mk 48 is a Belgian weapon, manufactured by FN Herstal.
It is a derivative of the FN Minimi design - also known by its US Army name, the M249 SAW, and its USSOCOM designation: the Mk 46.
The Mk 48 is a scaled-up variant of the Minimi design, firing the full-power 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge instead of an intermediate one.
This means the Mk 48 is similar in role to FN's other offering in this calibre - the FN MAG, or M240. However, a high degree of part commonality between the M249 SAW, Mk 46, and Mk 48 means that maintenance and repair is simplified for those who employ only the Minimi-derived designs.
In-game, damage is high, amongst the highest of all automatic weapons: you can expect to kill in 3 shots at almost any range, with 4 shots needed only at a very extreme distance, beyond most sightlines in-game.
One headshot up close will deal damage sufficient to secure a two-shot kill, although it is generally better to keep your enemy at an arm's reach with the LMGs.
Penetration ability is innately high, and the generous damage and large magazine makes the Mk 48 particularly well suited to finding targets behind cover.
Rate of fire is slow, at 625 rounds per minute: this does make the weapon easier to control, but harms close-range potential.
Rapid fire will improve this output to 750 rounds per minute, but will mandate more frequent reloads, and greatly increase recoil.
Hipfire spread is relatively high: and while you have plenty of fire-power on tap, the slower fire rate will make for unreliable hipfire performance.
Handling is generally slow, as you'd expect for an LMG - but the recoil is mild, permitting accurate automatic fire out to quite some distance.
Everything about this weapon favours aimed fire from a good position: with a 480 millisecond aim time, nearly half a second, you can't exactly snap onto targets quickly.
Switch times are also relatively slow - but not cripplingly so, and your movement speed is of the slowest tier, at 90% of maximum speed.
This is slightly faster than LMGs in previous games, but you still won't keep pace with other weapons.
Magazine capacity is excellent: 100 rounds between reloads, as you should expect from an LMG.
Extended clip confers a 35% advantage, granting 135 rounds instead.
With such capacity comes severe disadvantage in reload times: and indeed, the Mk 48 has the slowest reload of any weapon, at 7.97 seconds.
This obviously means you'll be left vulnerable for a long time while restocking - you should seek to reload in a safe place, away from the heat of battle.
This weapon, like most LMGs in Call of Duty, rewards those who can employ the weapon from a prepared position.
Speed is not your ally, and to use the Mk 48 effectively you will have to rely on anticipation of your enemy's movement.
From a good position overlooking a narrow chokepoint, you can inflict untold amounts of damage: repelling entire teams twice over without ever reloading.
Well-rounded knowledge of sightlines and flanking routes will serve you well, and keeping an eye on the radar will help you to prepare for incoming assailants.
Fire in short bursts to prolong your magazine's lifespan, and to ensure accuracy: but don't be afraid to pin the trigger and unleash your weapon's fury in circumstances where you're in danger of becoming overwhelmed.
Be wary of enemy snipers, too - they have the power to eliminate you in one shot, and are the only opponents to truly pose a threat to your ranged dominance.
The Mk 48 is a weapon capable of sustained, high-damage fire - with consistent performance out to a very long range.
At a distance, few other automatic weapons can boast the same level of per-shot damage, and none match the 100-round magazine capacity.
Paired with low recoil and excellent ability to penetrate cover, the Mk 48 can reach out and touch distant enemies like no other weapon.
Unfortunately, close quarters combat is often unavoidable, given the prevalence of SMGs: and in such firefights you will be at a severe disadvantage.
All you can do is have a degree of faith in your team-mates to cover your flank, and leave the rest to your sidearm and bouncing betties.
Still, the LMGs have ample strengths to outweigh these close-range shortcomings, and although their niche may seem narrow, a well placed defender with an LMG can swing objective games towards victory.
When the wind blows in your favour, there's simply nothing that can argue with this LMG's immense power: any hapless foe that wanders into your killzone can be confident that the Mk 48...
...will mark their grave.

I run with Laser + Hybrid Sight + QuickDraw handle and I destroy people with it. A very versatile package. I have the range to tackle snipers and the quickness to deter those with SMGs.
I run QuickDraw, Stock, Grip. I’m very aggressive so I use mainly speed attachments. Perks is Scavenger, Dexterity, Dead Silence with Perk 2 Greed, and Hardline. I’ve gotten many nuclears with this setup

I love using the thermal scope and suppressor with some smoke grenades to counter the snipers. Works very well in domination when it's hard to get the B flag.

This is very nostalgic, but also sad because I know we'll likely never see a remaster of this game. Mainly because there isn't any pay-to-win ways of Treyarc to cash in.
If it makes you feel better the stats are usually recycled every iteration of COD. There's just different quirks and models. Just like the Ballista in BO2 is practically identical to the Intervention in MW2.
asides from the poor map design, ssbm and weird IW quirks, Modern Warfare 2019 was a decent CoD

After watching the video for some reason I was just like "Let me give it a go, whatever," and it's been my favorite class to play thus far. I was already growing weary of BO2 but this set brought the fun back. Thanks, man! Can't wait for the rest.
Variable Zoom, QuickDraw, and Adjustable Stock are my go-to attachments for the Mk. 48. Very accurate and mobile.
I've been using the MK 48 lately, definitely my new favorite gun to use. Despite the very sluggish aim time, I've been winning open, mid-short range gun fights without quickdraw. Without the toughness perk, I would have probably lost almost every single one of those gun fights. When I use an assault rifle, I rarely benefit from drop shotting. With the MK, however, I find myself drop shotting 25 - 50% of the time.
I don't see why people call LMGs noob weapons. They encourage support because you just don't have the speed to rush in and mop up. I usually used the target finder and fmj when I used this one along with a fhj. In cod im a support player to those that run around and I make sure killstreaks don't stay up for long along with my uavs, cuavs and whatever else i decide to use. A bouncing betty is also great at keeping my back protected when I don't have a pocket assault rifle or sniper protecting me.

@@thebonezone252 There is a fine line between camping and playing a fire support class. The reason why LMGs get all of those benefits is because you're a stationary target. Mobility is EXTREMELY valuable in Call of Duty and having to remain relatively still makes you an EXTREMELY easy target. Note that while your gun may be loaded to the brim with ammunition, have extreme reach and damage, you yourself are not any more durable than another soldier, thus one sniper shot, one burst of an assault rifle or having too many enemies to shoot at once is enough to put you down before you can eliminate them all. Not only do you feel underwhelmed to see your team mates take the front up of the action but you have very poor close quarters capability since the LMGs are lumbering giants. So the benefits and downsides bat each other out, its more of people complaining that when they play too aggressively and run into an LMG fire is when they start calling out camper because someone was holding an angle and not rushing in like the idiot they were. I mean what were they expecting when they ran into the sights of someone who is already pre-aiming.
Camping would be trying to lock down a specific spot as hard as possible while a regular LMG support player moves up with his team, following closely behind to mop up the enemy.
Another thing to note about the LMGs, (And Sniper Rifles) is the nature of locking down routes. It protects your teammates from the flanks, and kills enemy morale.
This gun is an absolute beast. I loved the M60 in Black Ops and found this to be the most comparable. I use it with a Red Dot, Quickdraw handle, and Silencer. I find that the quickdraw helps to mitigate the close to midrange problems.

Justin Silva sounds similar to a setup I used with the MK48. It definitely works.
Same build but the only thing is that I would I would use gunfighter for the stock. People usually get pissed When you can get the drop on people with faster weapons.

This is an LMG that I frequently get VTOL Warships using. As ahoy said, do not try running in the open with it. Make sure to secure a spot you know you wont get over run by enemies, like on Nuketown 2025 map. What I do on maps like that is secure a house and have a few teammates on a floor above me as well or below me and use the camper's way of fighting, using a target finder, FMJ and extended mags. Scavenger and Fast Hands will give you results with this gun when you carry lethals and tacticals, using concussions to slow down the enemies and quickly swapping back to gun them down. Wash rinse and repeat this basic process with moving around a little so you dont get surrounded or flanked by an entire team will lead you to VTOLS, Warthogs, EMP systems, VSATs K9 Units and other high streaks with relative ease. People say camping is for pussies, but if you do it right it will get you those hard to reach streaks over and over. This is a gun that if you camp with it right and use the right attachments, perks and equipment, you will see very good results.
Amen as long as you can set up behind good cover you'll be re-enacting Omaha beach as the nazis in no time.

great for those who can find a high place and support their team. but because you will be blind most of the time, you should zoom out after every 10 secs. for scorestreaks, a UAV, Sentery gun, and an aerial scorestreak of your choice

Nobody ever seems to employ suppressing fire in cod. In objective modes, having a slow firing, high capacity weapon dumping bullets on the objective for 30 seconds straight can help a ton

7.62s are nothing to mess around with. 2 to 3 times the power of a 5.56.
My favorite lmg in this game, beautiful damage and a great belt size, and the closest lmg to a m60, and good irons (to me) I always run quickdraw and a silencer but back then I always ran a target finder, and a silencer, I was a noob back then, but I’ve learned over time.
I know how you feel, I have been using the LSAT, and I was going for the art of war and cherry blossom camos at the same time, so I was at a huge disadvantage, but I still managed to go 80-33. The LMGs in this game are godly:)
thank you Stu. i never knew how good the mark 48 was and now that im using it with dualband, fmj, and quickdraw i am able to get high killstreakes like the lodestar that i never was able to get before.
I find it funny that people call people who uses target finder noob. That just means that you suck more than they do if you die to them and still call them that.

Its a nice class, good for getting some feeds. I once wallbanged someone with no FMJ through a high level of concreate. It was in Grind, it was actually a 2 piece. I was quite happy when I got that :)

I just unlocked the Diamond camo. I went through Hell on the QBB LSW until the very end. The LSAT wasn't difficult, but I don't like the feel of it. The Mk 48, in all of its OP glory, was easy.
LSW was pretty tough because it's not a good defensive weapon. When I first used it it wasn't working out for me. But I never gave up.
MrGumbwit Yeah. You need to be more aggressive with the QBB LSW, or equip the Suppressor and take the road less traveled.

***** You can rush better with literally any other LMG. faster rates of fire and faster reloads are essential for close quarters skirmishes. And those weapons have a solid enough range to hold their own, when duty calls.
I wish ahoy still made these weapon guides for modern CODs. Really enjoyed these vids back in the day.

I used the MK 48 in domination and I went 51 and 10 using this setup. Flak Jacket is great for camping, and toughness works nice for taking out snipers that don't 1 shot kill. This class works better than any other class I've used, and I'm a 2nd prestige level 51. Great video, it helped me a lot.
I actualy got a 68/17 kd in demolition using the mk 48 with supressor quickdraw abd rapid fire. It was very good at close range. Also i made a guy get mad at me :3
Mateus Maiolini Suppressor and Rapid Fire is very risky. Your 88 meter three shot kill becomes a meager 39.6 meter three shot kill, allowing un-suppressed weapons to easily dispose of you, such as the SCAR-H, which has a 57 meter three shot kill range, and superior handling characteristics.
weakestlink20 yeah i did get killed at longer ranges some times. But i use this class for close quarters but i will try it without the supressor :D
the fact that the third attachment choices, the primary gunfighter, and the concussions are all in parentheses means that they are OPTIONS you can choose to add primary gunfighter and one of the attachments listed between the () OR two concussions

Steward just gave everybody the advise to be anoying with the target finder -_-
And that's why you used the shocked charges with the bouncing betty. And Claymores only take out enemies in one direction while bouncing betty can take out enemies in all direction. But all in all, it's up you on whether you used this setup or not. Personally this is the same setup I used and it's does work pretty well for me, I do say so.

If I'm not rushing, I want to be a nade eater. Surviving explosions and setting off clues behind me is a valuable trait to help my team. For many years now, I've been rushing and escaping death often, while leaving all kinds of clues about my enemies behind me.

The mk 46 is chambered in the 5.56-45 making it more compatible with the m4 or m16. the mk 48 is chambered in the 7.62-51 making it stronger, but harder to supply ammo for, due to the U.S not employing a standard battle rifle outside the m14.

the mk48 is pretty awesome with variable zoom, silencer and quickdraw. keeps you off the map with some of the most accurate long range damage
I ran with a variation of this for so long it was insane. Dual band instead of target finder, smoke instead of shocks, and extended mags for the 23R with the extra point.
It was by far, my favourite build for hard point matches. Smoke the objective, and just let it rip.
I personally cannot use any LMGs without using the adjustable stock. The crippled mobility of an LMG is much better when you can use full walk speed when aiming. Works out very well for me, try it out sometime.
I listened to 2112 by Rush while it was reloading.
Not that it matters. Rush and any M249 SAW variant are bound to be badass.
I use this a lot & I'm working my way to the dual band sight which I believe is excellent! Good Vid, as always!
Very good video. However I must STRONGLY suggest using the suppressor on this weapon. Its range is so long you literally never lose power. I've been using the suppressor and I swear it's killed in 3 shots (or 2 shots if I hit the head) at even the longest sight lines. Aside from that I also strongly recommend the Adjustable Stock, which makes it much easier to move around the map. Then I use Primary Gunfighter to add a sight, either the Reflex, Target Finder, or the Dual Band.

I started using this as my go to LMG over the LSAT a while back and it's unreal.
I can just imagine him trolling the enemies with his badass voice... "My Mark 48... has left a mark on your grave!"
I suspect he meant that the stuff in brackets were alternatives, and he was saying he favours the Mk48 with reflex and stock, lightweight, toughness, dexterity and extreme con. for perks, as well as taking 2 concussions. Which would be 10.

I like to have an Assault Shield with my Mk. It allows me to hold anywhere I'm needed and really helps with the juggernaut feel of LMGs.
I used a similar setup but with stock instead of rapid. It made it possible for me to strafe while shooting, making it like an assault-rifle only more damage and higher cap mags.
I find that (at least on the older CoDs, I haven't played BO2) corner campers are more common in FFA where there aren't buddies to watch your back or enemies to reliably spawn trap.

first of all, the .45acp that the vector shoots is still pistol ammunition, and as such is less powerful than assault rifles (something COD doesn't understand), so i'm not quite sure what you mean by "high-powered". second, "recoil-mitigation" doesn't mean "recoil-elimination". third, high rate of fire means more frequent reloads.

I would call him an LMG Target Finder noob but hey, he's XboxAhoy. He can do whatever he wants.
If you don't like it's RPM, use rapid fire, this gun is amazing with it, while there is a reduction in range, it is still farther than even the SCAR H. It's already low recoil doesn't make it bounce around too much. The higher RPM will make it a little bit more of a contender in CQB fights as well. It's an all around excellent gun, you just have to be careful of being in a CQB fight with a knifer or SMG user, switch to your side arm for this.
3:00 A clip is a device, other than a speedloader, used for loading a magazine or cylinder. A belt box (or belt canister depending on shape) isn't technically a magazine, just a container for the belt.
9:55 Technically, belts have no limit on size. The only limit is what's practical to carry. Of course, that's just the belt, itself, not the belt box or canister.
Now this guy makes the game look good.
Keep your sights up when aiming and aim for the head, that is what is working for me.
he goes in order. I don't have the game on in front of me, but he goes in the order that game does. I think the first one was the MP7, the second the MTAR, and now this one. There's a shotgun and some other things coming before he revisits the LMG's. I love the LSAT too, but just be patient.
