Steps:
Blocking on Messenger Only:
- Go to Messenger
- Open a conversation with a friend
- Tap on the information icon
- Scroll down and tap Block
- Tap on Block Messages and Calls
- Tap on Block once again
- Open a conversation with a friend that you think is blocking you
- Send them a message
- The message will be sent but your friend won't receive it
Blocking on Messenger and Facebook:
- Open a conversation in Messenger
- Tap on the information icon
- Scroll down and tap on Block again
- The difference is this time is you will be blocked on Facebook as well
- Tap on Block on Facebook
- Tap on Block
- Open the conversation with a friend you think blocked you on Messenger and Facebook
- You cannot send messages to them anymore
- You will see "This person is unavailable on Messenger"

From personal experience if someone blocks you it wont show when they’re active and you wont get the option to message them when you click on their fb profile.

You are actually wrong on this.
The unfilled checkmark means you sent them a message. If they aren't logged into Facebook or they don't have messenger then it won't be delivered until they login to their account.
If you are blocked on messenger then it says this person isn't available on messenger

I sent an old friend a message (who I'm not friends with on Facebook) but what usually happens is, when they log into facebook, they won't be notified of the message. Instead, they have to physically click the messenger icon and they will see that they have a message request from me, BUT even when they view that message from me, it won't trigger that they've read it. I've tried this using different accounts and I discovered that, even when you open the message request, it won't say that it has been read on the other side, so technically you can be blocked or the person is receiving the messages and is just ignoring you.

wrong info. If ur blocked in messenger by someone it will show this person is not available to be messaged by you, as simple as that, there is an option
