Thanks for all the great info! Bought a GSD and love it. Excited to stay car free in SF and put my 6 month old son on it when he's older. I accidentally bought the kryptonite 1210 instead of the 1275 and now I understand the difference....It's bigger and weighs more! Switching that out now!

Nice setup. I've got the Hauler rack with a Wald 139 basket zip-tied on top. It ends up being a similar size to the Transporter, but it's deeper and I have a bungee net that goes over the top rather than just a cord or two. I also have a generic sit pad similar to a Thermarest in the bottom to keep things padded.
There are lots of great stem bags out there, but my favorite is my waxed canvas one from Randi Jo Fabrications. Hand-made in Oregon, although they've got a big backlog of work. They also make a kid's "Joey Pouch" that I plan to pick up as soon as I move up from a Yepp to the Clubhouse.

Thanks for sharing about Randi Jo. I've seen their work and love their bags. The Joey Pouch has really simple buckles for install that could work all over the bike!!

I only have an ordinary hybrid bike but a very interesting video and a very impressive machine overall. It shows how it can be a total car replacement.
Those 52 litre panniers are very impressive. I actually use a bike trailer to achieve carrying large or heavy loads but I also have a selection of panniers and I always take one or two with me everywhere.
It's better to be looking at them than looking for them! 😜.
But can I ask how secure are they if left on the bike?
If you go into your local shopping centre for a few hours are they easily removed?
By a thief or by yourself to keep safe? Do they easily fold up to carry?
Even though I live in a quiet rural area, I still wouldn't leave anything on my bike that I am not prepared to have stolen eventually one day.
Enjoying your video's and your enthusiasm for what you are doing.

Very helpful video for me, figuring out what accessories I should consider buying along a GSD S00. Regarding your setup, my only concern would be the kids' ease to access their seats by themselves with panniers covering the side decks.

  • @tamsinday7498

We have a Tern GSD and have kitted it out very similarly for our 3 and 5 year old. We have been wondering which side deck extensions to get as the pannier bags seem to sit width wise between the wide and double wide deck size, but as we have the Yepp kids seat which would not allow the folding up mechanism I think we will go for the wide ones. I like the pannier adapter hack, that will help our 5 year olds legs stop being tangled in the straps and hopefully keep the bags from being so floppy. I like the bike chain bag idea too as this weighs and flops the panniers over. The one accessory I am still trying to get that will fit the bike is a rear facing bar end mirror - I don't like the big ones on the bars and want an end one but every one we have ordered doesn't fit the handle bar ends currently...if you have any ideas??? Thanks for the great video! PS we love our transporteur rack also!

Is the cargo line motor sufficient to help me along? I have tested the bike, but I had no hills near me at the time of testing.

I'm seriously considering a GSD bike for my 3 and nearly 7 year old.
The one thing that's making me consider a front bucket instead of this style is getting the kids onto the back and keeping them secure.
I really like the look of the clubhouse plus bars but I'm wondering are they absolutely fixed and do you have to lift the kids up and over the bars to get them in and out? My near 7 year old is very tall for his age and I can't manage to lift him above my hips so I don't think that would suit if it's not possible to open up a bar on the side with ease.
Also the area I'm in is very hilly and includes a lot of sharp corners which I take very slowly but I would still worry about not having the kids fully secure (with or without the clubhouse bars), what kind of harnesses can be used other than he hardshell seats which they are both too heavy for at this stage.
Thanks for the very informative video, absolutely love seeing you pop up on my subscriptions page.

Love your videos! SO SO helpful!! we are kitting out our bike! Is there a way to stop everything in the panniers getting wet if you have it in bucket mode with yepp seats? Think I would prefer panniers to a storm box - as the storm box would be over kill in the summer months here - BUT I need to keep bags and kids dry in the winter - in your video I was worried that storm shield didn't seem to meet up with the panniers to keep the rain out?
Ideally would have both obvs!! please help! =)

just read all the comments below and saw you recommended a storm box a fellow Scot! so I think I'll do that and potentially try and manage with just the front rack in the summer - until I can sneak a pannier purchase past the OH!!
I think a future development for tern is a pannier / storm box cross over!! panniers with a zip on/off extra piece of fabric to from a top section round the club house. Maybe I'll have to make one! =D

How useful! Transferrable items like the PoCampo would be a great fit for our lifestyle and small space. I do wonder, what pushed you to use the Transporter over the hauler with a crate? I'm currently shopping racks. Finding a good looking, inexpensive crate that fits the transporter is maddening.

Hi, love your channel! It’s very informative and is the reason for getting me hooked on the tern GSD! I am keen to know more how you get on with the storm shield in combo with the Cargo Hold 52 Panniers. I live in Scotland, and well the rain does not just fall from the sky, most often it is coming at you horizontally from a multitude of directions!!! I know there is the option of the storm box, but for all the commuting I do with the kids vs other purposes I use the bike for I think I prefer the panniers. Keen to understand if the hack with the pannier straps, the Cargo Hold 52 Panniers and the Storm shield would create just as good a waterproof setup as the Clubhouse fort? Thanks in advance.

For your use, I would probably get the Storm Box! In Colorado, where it was super cold and hard weather all winter long, I used a Storm Box and Storm Shield for the kids. The Cargo Hold 52 and Pannier Adapters are good for mild weather, but not for true car replacement if you plan to ride in ALL weather.

I don't have any kids but am considering the GSD to replace my truck. I would need to be able to carry big grocery loads and adult passengers.
The Clubhouse Plus looks helpful to carry crates full of stuff. Can the Clubhouse Plus sides be easily lifted to fit an adult passenger? Our could I use wingnut washers to lift the sides easily?
I would also like to be able to pull my Burley flatbed trailer. Do the Wide or Double Wide Decks interfere with GSD's ability to pull a trailer? Or could I use something like a Robert Axle Project axle do the trick?

    • @BikeShopGirl

      Hey Dan!
I would look at the captains chair for an adult passenger. It can still fit a crate using the armrest parts.
Flatbed will work with either. In the Double Wide Deck, it would be able to fold up out of the way cleanly.
