I just sold mine to a guy from Toronto. Looked just like the one on the table Dave. When those basses were sold new, Yamaha used to include a little wrench that could be used to keep the collars tight. Unfortunately, they always seem to be lost when you acquire one of these instruments. They are nice basses, but they are also quite heavy, and usually have some "neck dive" issues.

    YaYYY a BB!
Bought a pawn shop BB200 (the "cheap" model) back around '85 for peanuts. One broken tuner to weld up and it's been through me and my daughter ever since. All original parts no problems.

I live in the state of Maryland (USA) and ordered my pickup tool during the Father's Day Sale (Thanks for the 10% tip Dave). I received it from Solo in 3 days. Talk about great service. I was pleasantly surprised I got it that quick. It won't be the last time I order from Solo!!!!!!! Great company.

Maybe that tuner blemish is from hot sauce. A guy was eating tacos while he played this bass.
I got a J bass from an old guy who always scarfed down at the old folks home gigs ha had. The bass was covered with schmutz and the finish has a permanently etched spot. I even had to replace the metal parts and scratch plate. It’s a great bass now.

WOW! Thanks so much for showing this! I've still got my original Yamaha BB1100S with the same beautiful twin set pickups & pre-amp ( which is disconnected ) but the pickups still sound so nice in any config. I lost two of those pegs you were showing at the beginning & had to replace with something else as I couldn't find the original shape. Fretboard is rosewood & the colour of the bass is a beautiful rich red to darker outer edges. I love this bass & have had it for near 40 years now & you can play anything on it, sounds so sweet. Thank you again for posting & greetings & good will to all from Sydney DownUnder 🙏🎸😎👍🦘

That tuner construction was the Achilles heel of BB basses for about 20 years. They came with a special tool to tighten the collar, always a bad idea. They finally took away the collar in the late 90s and converted them to a hex key adjustment. Stopped making the original BBs soon after. The current BBs come with Schaller BM shaped tuners, way better. Easily upgraded.

I’m curious if you prefer to work on guitars or basses? We know you prefer instruments with working truss rods and adequate access to the truss rod adjustment. I’ve watched most of your bass videos. Truly learned a lot and it’s helped me do most basic maintenance myself. So thank you for that!

Lovely bass the ol' BB1200. I bought one new in 1983. I got back from a tear's gallivanting in India to discover that my Wal and my Ricky had been stolen from my house. 😡
So I part-ex'ed my Korg MS20 for a blonde BB1200 just like that one.
Useful bass. Easy to play and a nice tone.
I gigged it for about 8 years until another deal on a Wal came along.

It is very real. I've known 2-3 people who would take your guitar (or bass) to check it out, even if they had clean hands they would play literally 3 chords or some simple riff for a total of 10 seconds, hand it back to you and 2 minutes later your strings sounded as dead as if they're been gigged 15 nights in a row in a sweaty club. From what I understand Elixir Strings initialy retired the oldest coated strings with the thickest coating (now sold as Polyweb) when they introduced the less thick one (Nanoweb), but brought it back because some people complained that their sweat would eat through the thinner coating and still corrode the strings in a matter of days or hours. I've also heard from local luthiers about guys whose sweat would make pickguards or other plastics shrink or crumble on several vintage guitars in a row... meaning: bought, played once, put away in a case, opened the next day, celluloid pickguard or a chunk of binding is wrecked.

I use Flitz metal polish when I want a shiny finish. Maybe you could use that on those tuners. Used some on my recent Dremel fret polishing job I did. I got to wear shades now to play it. 😊
P.S. on one Luthier video the guy uses viva paper towels that that won't scratch the finish.
