Thanks for posting this video Chris, its nice to see what you are up to when you're 'oot n aboot'. You are a great ambassador for our outdoor places and the message you put across here about leaving no trace is appreciated 👍

It did though I didn't get up any hills. I wrote about it here: www.christownsendoutdoors.com/2024/07/an-interesting-visit-to-loch-eanaich.html

Hi Chris. Just found your channel. Great to see you out there and to hear your thoughts on your MSR tent. I have the carbon reflex 1 which I love for its lack of weight but the flip side is the thin material rips easily! Maybe I'm just careless. It also has no zip on the fly, just velcro and hooks. Good for you for clearing up the rocks and fire pits.

    Hi Chris
    Thankyou.
    Can uou help?
'I'm wrestling between using a buffalo/ paramo system (which are bit heavy / warm for summer) and traditional layering which in previous videos you have favoured.
Question: what hardshell waterproof do you recommend?
    Cheers
    Imran.
Ps you mentioned Cape Wrath. If you have just done that, congratulations and do you possibly have a kit list perchance?

It depends on the season. In cold weather I like Paramo but I do find it too warm once the temperature is above about +5C. Generally I use it between late October and late April. The rest of the year I wear a traditional waterproof, of which there are several that I currently like. The one I've used on recent long walks is the Outdoor Research Helium Ascentshell. Here's my review www.thegreatoutdoorsmag.com/review/outdoor-research-helium-ascentshell/ . I took that on the Cape Wrath Trail. I will be writing about the gear I used on my blog.

@@ChrisTownsendOutdoorI definitely have a lot of questions.. I m no novice myself but find your videos and blogs the best.
You prefer to use trail runners and that's what you have used on cwt recently..since trail runners are very low I wonder didn't you get shoes full of soil and stones ? I just can't see how they can be used without some sort of gaiters..
      Thank you..

@@vvs3796 I've worn trail shoes for thousands of miles over the decades and I've never found that a problem. I've never worn gaiters with them.

@@ChrisTownsendOutdoorwow..even on boggy cape wrath trail..
I recently walked from Blair athol to kingussie and some parts were really muddy and boggy, I don't think I could do without getting some mud into low cut shoe.but that is probably issue with me not finding a better path..

Sorry, do you still prefer MLD Solomid or duomid to msr hubba NX? or msr does have some advantages?

    • @ChrisTownsendOutdoor
      @ChrisTownsendOutdoor  Месяц назад +1

I prefer the Solomid XL and Duomid XL to the Hubba NX because outside of bug season I just use them with a groundsheet. I do use the SoloMid with the inner in the summer. The only advantage of the Hubba NX is that it is a little easier to pitch.
