That Maximum Stint Energy level may be a big disadvantage for Ferrari. The energy conservation and its effect on race pace during stints taken over 30 odd stints during the race could be critical as the race goes on.

Maybe others who are advanced in understanding race technology can go into more details. From what I understand the WEC for Balance of Performance will adjust the numbers for each car at each track to theoretically make the cars equal in lap times.

Reliability and drivability to name a couple. In theory, BoP is supposed to balance the car’s maximum theoretical performance. So if you’re behind the other manufacturers, it’s ideally up to you to extract more performance out of the car. Whether or not they’re actually achieving that properly is up for debate.
IMSA showed why. Acuras had incredible suspension on bumpy street circuits, Mazdas were great on smooth, top-end heavy tracks, the Caddys were dominant on acceleration heavy tracks like Long Beach and the Nissans were incredible when temps went down in the night. Unfortunately the FIA seem massively worse than IMSA when it comes to BOP.
There is A LOT more to a car being fast than maximum power/minimum weight. Where is the weight distributed? How good is the power curve? How is the aero? How does this all affect the tires? That’s all before things like reliability/drivability. The Peugeot and Porsche have very fast race pace, but suffer from being difficult to do on a consistent basis. The Yota and Ferrari are far more drivable, even if not being quite as quick round the track under ideal conditions

Honestly, the Peugeot will be muuuuch lighter than it's ever been since the wing placement. They will be MORE competitive than they were @Imola and @Spa IMO. Then again that's not saying much. Wouldn't be surprised to see Alpine and Peugeot all of a sudden be a bit quicker and competitive. Isotta should be much quicker too, even with the less experienced drivers.

Because that's how in the past porsche won so much titles at LeMans, because the field was full of porsche. It was unreasonable ratios, which gave porsche much probabilities to won compare to any other brands. They're starting to repeat the cheating supported by the FIA and ACO.
So complex. Whilst BOP makes the field closer, I wish they'd get rid of it. I don't like the ACO being kingmakers. Toyota got screwed last year, and I don't want others to suffer the same fate. I'd prefer they set the rules and leave the brands alone to build the best car they can.
In an ideal world I think most would agree. That’s essentially what LMP1 was but the costs spiraled out of control. This is a cost-effective way to get large manufacturer representation. Doesn’t mean the system can’t continue to improve though.

@@thepitkid Not sure about that. WEC doesn't work like F1. Once a manufacturer figures out the formula others can't catch up anymore since they can't increase their spendings. It's hostile towards new manufacturers as well since they would start of with a development disadvantage that they most likely couldn't overcome. It would also kill every privateer team since they can't effort to spends millions every season to upadte their cars. Some manufacturers are already threatening to leave the series, imagine how much worse that would be with a development race.

Ok, I am new to the sport (drifted in from F1). I see the benefits of BOP. I am surprised the concept is polarizing. I can see how the execution can be, however. It seems the BOP is based on predicted potential, rather than result-driven. I guess that makes sense. It would seem unfair if drivers who are more capable of getting the most out of the car are directly punished. Anyway, that would explain the numbers from my new untrained eyes :)
This is correct. In theory it's balance based on potential, so previous results shouldn't make a difference. Still puts the responsibility on the teams and drivers to get as close to that potential as they can. This is why boutique manufacturers often still struggle with race pace despite having what looks like "favorable BoP". Also, welcome to endurance racing! It's a confusing world at times, but this is a great time to start watching!
I think as of right now, Lamborghini needs this full season to get a grip on their car, but their driver lineup is actually decent. In one car you have Romain Grosjean, and Andrea Caldarelli Platinum but his last podium finish was in 2014. Then you have Matteo Cairoli who I think is on his way up even more and very promising. All very experienced and obviously in at Le Mans. The #63 you have Mirko Bortolotti very good, Daniil Kvyat BIG ????? here, probably paid for his ride? Was not very good in my opinion in F1. Then you have Edoardo Mortara, so so driver. So one good Lambo, the other a crap shoot. IMHO
I hope after the Porsche tests they will throw a bag because this season they won 2/3 of the stage and I don't understand why their weight is not the biggest in the class yet

How would a monetary cap change anything? Once a team has figured out the formula others can't catch up because they are limited by spending. New manufacturers don't even need to think about joining because once they are late they can't close the gap by investing more money, smaller manufacturers probably couldn't keep up with the bigger manufacturers bringing updates every season. This system might work in F1, WEC isn't F1 though. The revenue these teams make isn't enough to balance the amount of money they would have to spend.

@@falinestixiaolong9691 Well it‘s the truth, I‘m sorry. I‘ve experienced Le Mans in the 90s and let me tell you the racing and the crowds where absolutely insane! These days there’s almost nothing of that spirit left. Most of the crowd is gone, there’s maybe a fifth of the attendance at Le Mans as there was in the nineties. When group C cars and GT1 cars and even the later GTS cars roared by it was absolutely insane! Also those cars still where real manufacturer cars. The new cars are just the same LMP2 cars with different optics and a different engine. It‘s such a shame they replaced the glorious technology of LMP1 with those lmdh/gtp cars. The same goes for the GTE class that was the last interesting and different touring car class, which now has become another insanely boring GT3 class. Just have a look at the unique GTE cars that we had and compare it to GT3 cars that now are in every other series. They don’t give you the same emotion and awe that GTE cars can give you. I‘ve driven the BMW M6 GT3 on a weekend track training and the car can do so much more than I can do and it was amazing fun, but I still prefer something more unique with less electronic help than that. If you haven’t experienced it you’ll never understand I guess. Maybe visit at least Goodwood to get a feeling for those sports and touring cars of the nineties. Maybe you’ll get it then..

I‘ve experienced Le Mans in the 90s and let me tell you the racing and the crowds where absolutely insane!
These days there’s almost nothing of that spirit left.
Most of the crowd is gone, there’s maybe a fifth of the attendance at Le Mans as there was in the nineties.
When group C cars and GT1 cars and even the later GTS cars roared by it was absolutely insane!
Also those cars still where real manufacturer cars.
The new cars are just the same LMP2 cars with different optics and a different engine.
It‘s such a shame they replaced the glorious technology of LMP1 with those lmdh/gtp cars.
The same goes for the GTE class that was the last interesting and different touring car class, which now has become another insanely boring GT3 class.
Just have a look at the unique GTE cars that we had and compare it to GT3 cars that now are in every other series.
They don’t give you the same emotion and awe that GTE cars can give you.
I‘ve driven the BMW M6 GT3 on a weekend track training and the car can do so much more than I can do and it was amazing fun, but I still prefer something more unique with less electronic help than that.
If you haven’t experienced it you’ll never understand I guess.
Maybe visit at least Goodwood to get a feeling for those sports and touring cars of the nineties.
Maybe you’ll get it then..
