The 'smoke' is just the exhaust gasses and condensation trail, nothing to worry about.

just a random fact the military term for missing a the arrestor cables on a carrier is a bolter. When the pilot would miss they would get a message over the radio saying "bolter! bolter!" and then they would hit the afterburners and take it around again.
This is great. I love realism in games and yourself and Upchuk are/THE/best at it. Not only that, I respect you as a RUclipsr and Marine, considering you're brave enough to fight for your country, then casually use your skills in a game. Sorry if I'm factually incorrect, this is just my seeing. Love this type of video! Keep up the awesome, amazing standard videos.

Can't wait till I can fly the Jet's like you guy's!!! I'm a 57 year old U.S. Navy Veteran. I just finished building my new 4,000.00 dollar PC just so I can learn how to play this Arma 3 Apex. I have the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight stick for now until I can purchase the better flight controls.
correction at around 4:30 you say again artificial horizon doesnt work, it does work, its just showing where the horizon is, im pobably not the only one who said this but too bad, your plane was going fast enough to where it was producing enough lift to make you start climbing when you are facing the horizon, there for you need to point a little below it to keep it at "level flight" with no altitude gain or loss
the symbol in your HUD that looks like a W is which way your plane is pointing the circle with line coming out sides and top ir which way youre flying, if you stall the ww would stay straight and circle would fall(no lift) etc so to fly level put the circle on artificial horizon

I'll be working on an aircraft carrier within the next 4 years. I am currently in DEP for the Nuc Program. Kind of excited but I have no idea what to expect!
pro tip :D When using "AG" or air to ground it is always best to have more altitude and increase the angle of attack to ensure your missile does not impact a house or a tree before reaching your target. 45 degree angle is best :D

You guys need to check out the dual seater version. The gunner with a full load of AGMs is OP.
+IPWNFORCHEESE for some reason you dont get the signal the AGM 88 is locking on but it does, and makes even bigger explosion than the AGM 65 maverics
hey devildog, a tip for flight: when you spin the plane left or right and pull up, use the rudders (q & e i think) based on your direction of turn. turning left is q, and right is e

Roll-Q-Left E-Right
Pitch - W-Down S=Up
Yaw- A-Left D-Right
Now of course I don't know what the actual flight envelope looks like for an F/A 18 but I'd assume that when moving at 600+ mph you generally would need to point the nose to a slight negative angle to keep it level, since the amound of lift produced by a wing travelling that fast must be astounding. I think the artifificial horizon does work because the nose of your aircraft is down and the horizon displays a negative angle, even though you are flying level

Devil you should check these mods out again. The bombs have GPS targeting now and there's a two seater though I don't know how long it's been there. It would be pretty cool to see you and upchuk fly in the same one

Arma 3 has a better sub flight simulator then many dedicated flight sims.
what I just saw will be a strong basis for an incredible flight simulation when Project reality gets their magical hands on it.
Here's a cool idea for a S.E.A.L. insertion. Get jets and chuck the jet (eject from a good plane) and then you complete the mission on the ground.
looking continuously at all directions may give the watcher a terrible headache!

I had one question, after your first run before you landed on carrier why did you drop your fuel cell?
In real pilots' career it is recommended they stay abowe 100 meters altitude otherwise they are at risk of crashing.

If you Download the USS Nimitz Mod from Armaholic it has the "Top Gun.pbo" mission these guys are playing. Need the F-18 Mod as well to play it though.

I think that this is something the Arma 3 Developers always forgot about. I love Naval game play and I wished there where bigger ships then small assault craft. No I am not saying that it should bas focused on as the infantry. But come on who would not like to rush down to the lower levels of an aircraft carrier to get to the assault craft? Or board a Large or Medium sized hostel ship and sabotage it or wipe out the crew? I cant be the only one that think Arma should expand the naval gameplay some more. Why add all that see when all you get is 10 foot boats to fill it?

Yo. At about 4:10 you said that the artificial horizon doesn't work. I would like to let you know that this is not the case. At the speeds that you were travelling, your wings gather a lot of lift, and therefore to maintain level flight you need to pitch down slightly to compensate for the extra lift. Don't blame the HUD for not working next time, please.
