    POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!
    ***
I went to a showing of this earlier. Loved it, especially after it has had time to chill and settle in my mind. The symbolism and imagery are very much the strong suits here. The Biblical allusion of forbidden fruit (the apple and a mentioning of pomegranate) was something I cued into. It seemed like a saga of death and rebirth, with both concepts being actualized in various ways. The body horror aspect was a nice touch and it helps to further flesh out the disconnect between the heroine and the MEN with them being more of an abject entity of malice congealing and cycling through forms. The hermaphroditic Earth Mother was genuinely freaky. My friend and I are glad it was just the two of us. Our peers would not have appreciated it as much as we did.

Me and my boyfriend watched this movie today. I was thoroughly disturbed by the third act. Bizarre. I enjoyed the film as a whole. However, half of it makes absolutely no sense to me now that I am home and thinking about it. I know that a lot of it could be put down to her grief and how her husband’s actions made her wary and disgusted of men. But I like things to be black and white. The first two acts were great. The births made zero sense to me. So disgusting to watch. In terms of the actual horror aspects though … I was impressed 🤔 Brilliant acting performances on show 😇👏🏻

After your opening, I'm surprised by your final rating. I want to like it, but I fear I will hate it like Green Knight. There are quite a few negative reviews. I'm still deciding if I will see it. The new Downton was quite enjoyable.
Not a big horror movie fan, and usually, those are not the movies I seek messages... hahaha... But movies like 28 Days Later or 28 Weeks Later or Quiet Place 2 are interesting studies about the savage human conditions

MEN is very well made and creepy in an ingenious way. As body horror that borrows knowingly and progressivly from David Cronenberg this is one of the most discomforting movies in years. Kudos for that. BUT: Putting it in the context of our sociopolitical atmosphere and its profoundly agenda driven message Alex Garland is anything but courageous. He is riding the wave of the political correct mainstream - just in the extreme . 20 years ago this film really would have been "necessary" or important. Today it's nothing more than commissioned work for the ones in power transporting their messages.

Only 1 black person in the movie and not only did he die, but he was such a horrible person that he caused her to suffer from a mental break/PTSD!?!
Y'all 🤍 could have kept that one or at least given the 🖤 character some more depth via gruesome flashbacks. One break/rebirth was one too many.

My modest contribution is to do with the opening and closing song LOVE SONG written by Lesley Duncan . Lesley sings the opening song whilst Elton John sings the closing song. Is this the 'man' having the final say?

Thanks for the review! I appreciate that you explained what's this about without any spoilers. Tbh, I'm a bit on the fence after watching your review. I was, and still am, curious about the film. I'm definitely intrigued about the potential message it's trying to send. But I'm also hyper sensitive towards certain kinds of gore. Anyways, I hope this performs well because A24 are one of the few studios left willing to take risks.

i thought the vast majority of this movie is Harper's on going nightmares brought on by the stress of marriage. it has all the themes of nightmares. i have similar ones so thats why i felt it was nightmares. the most disturbing horror i have seen lately is soft and quiet....and disturbing for entirely different reasons.

Loved your review. Well thought out and interesting to listen. I’m so the opposite on this though. I felt it was great at the beginning with no pay off and just relaying on metaphor way to much. The end scene was grotesque with no substance to back it up.
This coming from someone who really enjoyed annihilation an ex-machina is my favourite movie of the past decade.
I feel garland got too off the rails with this one and lost story and substance over shock and metaphor

Great review. This is certainly on my Watch list. Another great horror movie with a message is X. Overall, it's a slow-burn slasher film done right by taking the time to build characters. I cared when they died. The great use of suspense and surprise provides very intense horror elements. The complexities stem from the plot so naturally, it never feels exhaustive. I enjoyed the callbacks to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Scream, and Psycho. It takes a while to get going but so worth it when it does. Smart social commentary elevates it too.

But it did not survive after the first season which I guess is why not many people have heard of it (or maybe it was cancelled because not enough people heard of it!) I still think it is worth checking out even though it didn't continue

Thanks for your review of Men. I really liked the movie. It succeeds in what it’s meant to succeed in, I think. Everything from the cinematography, to the acting, to the sound design and music, and of course, the makeup effects and that ending! Whoa! I went in knowing nothing about the film, not even having watched the trailer. I only knew that Alex Garland was at the helm, and I’ve been a fan of his work for some time now. I think Men works at every level, the ending blew me away, but it’s those small, quick moments that freaked me out. LoL The cellphone glitch scenes! Haha! Talk about creepy!

I really loved and enjoyed this movie . To be honest I didn’t like Ex machina , I found it a big mass of cliché scenes and themes with good visual effects. I came to this movie with low expectations due to my experience with Alex Garland’s previous work , but it was , with no doubt his best one.

First 10 secs - thumbs up! :D And NO to gorror! (well, none recently with a powerful message anyway...not since...the 2015 movie Spring perhaps? "Love transcends all". Or something like that. Most horrors these days don't really have a message, other than the occasional ones like The Happening (stop messing with nature) or environmental/greenie catastrophe movies. And Zombie movies - Zombieland had the best msg: "Always double-tap!" :D.
