  • Jessie Buckley & Rory Kinnear are interviewed for Alex Garland's Men. It is a horror film starring Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, and Paapa Essiedu. Stefan Pape asks the questions.
    In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears.
    Men will be released on the 3rd of June 2022.

    Regardless of how you felt about the film, Rory Kinnear was incredible. Literally stunned by his performance(s). I can’t wait to see his other work.

      I’m a bit faceblind, and I had literally no idea until today that pretty much every the male character was played by 1 actor/him!!! 😂😭

      I highly recommend the show Penny Dreadful. He plays Frankensteins monster and he is sublime in the role. He honestly deserves an Oscar for his portrayal in the series.

      @@johnricercato740 omg yes! The episode in the 3rd season where it's just the two of them for the whole episode and I don't think she even really speaks until the last few minutes. But her facial expressions.... The way she emotes. She literally brought me to tears, and his performance during their scenes in the cholera hospital together just broke my heart. His first season villain to sympathetic tortured soul arc was phenomenal. Rory Kinnear can do no wrong 💗

      @@dominickscalpi5686 Well put, Dominick! (RK is currently in The Diplomat as you may know. It’s a slightly preposterous show, but fun, and RK plays a PM who is clearly partly based on Boris Johnson. Rory does wonders with what is actually a pretty good script and gives the character real depth.)

    Just watched MEN….confused about the ending? Did all those characters actually exist or was it all a figment of her imagination? If so then who’s blood was that on the front doorway and herself covered in it when her friend arrives?

    • @thoso1973
      @thoso1973 Год назад +9

      It's a film neck deep in metaphors and allegory. So even if - 'objectively' - she's covered in blood and her car is wrecked when her friend arrives, don't necessarily take any of the events preceding the ending as literal. It's really a character study of a woman weighted down by grief and guilt within a deconstruction of the ancient patriarchal structure she is rebelling against.

    it’s always so underwhelming when an interview only affords answers from women that have to do with their male costars or Debbie Downer trauma topics (even when that is the genre at hand, there are creative questions to ask about process and insight and extrapolation) - if any comment lurkers have links to interviews that explore her perspectives as such, I’d love to see them!

    It will appeal to a gay male audience for sure, but it's not scary. I'm straight and thought it was certainly worth watching. The male nudity was not needed! It's a watch and forget movie. I've already forgotten most of it apart from the scenes where the man gives birth.
