Thank you for the video. I wasn't sure if a pin had broken off when I was trying to see why the controller would not work. But it appears there are supposed to be 5 pins and I observed the same corrosion you noted. Very helpful to know what you found and how you fixed it.

Found out my winch(same one you have) wasn’t working after I was already buried in mud. Had to have a bobcat on tracks come pull me out; it was embarrassing because the winch would’ve done it had it been working. After pulling it out I was looking at the electrical inside the box and checked the 3A fuse which seemed fine, although it looks very cheep. Did some testing and got the winch to work with a little hot wiring and that’s when I realized a pin broke out of the connector and the other pins were all pushed back not making connections. I’m gonna blame corrosion on that because it looked pretty nasty. I don’t want to pay the $25-40 for a replacement connector when I can just buy a mil-spec connector off Amazon That will be way better than the original for just under $20. Gotta do some re-wiring but that’s no problem for me. I do like your idea of using dielectric grease in addition to my new connector, should be more than enough to keep it going for a long time.

Haven't used my winch in so long, might be a good time to be sure it still works. 👍

Absolutely. Better to check it before going somewhere where you might need it.

Hey, Bro, I loved your video. I have the 17500 Smittybilt Winch, which slips and hesitates just trying to pull a small Ventrac SSV onto my trailer; this doesn't make any sense. Can you tell me why it's hesitating or slipping and the fix, please? Thanks. Rob

I would use silicone grease, for plumbing, around that rubber plug to also prevent water from coming into the plug receptical, just an idea.

Any extra barrier is always good. I've got some SuperLube silicone grease that would work.

I use bearing grease on any connections that might be exposed to moisture, it stays there and doesn't cause any issue.

That 4 pin connector looks suspiciously like a microphone jack. Just incase you need one sooner than later. I would mod that idea to be more waterproof. Talk about Chinese winch issues, wow. Now I see why people say to spend the money and get Warn if you want quality.
