Great video. I wish there was more footage of the crowd of skaters at Montvale. My girl and I skated there every Saturday night at that time. I met her there and we are still together. Married to her 45 years now. I also went to Paramus rink occasionally.

I remember 2 roller rinks in and around my old neighborhood , I personally didn't go to them , my friends and I would roller skate in the schoolyard or the streets themselves , we all played street hockey ,,,,, and most of the time the puck was a roll of 1" masking tape or electrical tape ,,,, I also remember our skates had the metal wheels and they needed to be replaced every so often , we also had a key for tightening up the skates on our shoes and doing repairs on the skates ,,,,
What a great time most of us had , whether it was going to the roller rink or skating in the streets,,,,
Thanks so very much for sharing this video with us all 👍

I was never great on Roller Skates! But tried a few years ago in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. It was fun. Like a look back to an earlier time. Where I grew up in New Hampshire there were a few rinks, namely a place called "Al's Casino" in Enfield, NH. I'd like to try again! Fun to watch the "Rollers" and listen to the music! A good Roller Rink song from the 60s is "Telstar" by The Tornados!

Hello! I am a freelance production coordinator currently working for the Japanese TV program and we are currently producing an urban street program (FOR INLINE SKATE / ROLLERBLADE EPISODE) for Japanese viewers. I would love to use this clip for about 15-30seconds in our edit so TV hosts can watch. Is it ok to use this clip for our show?

Can't tell you how many times I fell in the skating rinks in the 70s, LOL. I was a teenage in the 70s. I finally managed to break my leg skating, but not at a rink, go figure, LOL. I was born in 1961 and I plan not to skate again at 61, no more broken legs, LOL.

I started skating when the Everly Bros, Cascades, Cliff Richard, Dave Clark 5 were playing in the rinks. October 2023 I bought a pair of skates from Amazon and realized that skating *is not* like bicycling where you just hop back on and take off. Took some time to relearn my balance but still being very careful not to fall hard. Never too late to try again. Turning 71 soon. ☮

People used to go out and do things before cell phones, social media and internet. I would say it was better times. Except for the cigs. That's something they got wrong back then.

There is a second video on this channel made on Video tape is named Roller Skating Memories 1983. It captures the original music played from the same rink. You will notice, this rink played traditional skating music. This homemade silent film was made 1972-1974 and wasn't able to capture the original sound. What you hear in the 1983 video is about what was heard back in the early 70's. I don't recall grooving 70's music being played at this rink.
