    My family visited the NY Worlds Fair several times in 1964. Q27 from Bayside to downtown Flushing and one stop on the 7 Train the Fairgrounds. My only regret is not fully appreciating the wonder and grandeur at 5 years old. But I do remember eating Belgian Waffles, riding the Gondola, Ford convertible seeing Dinosaurs, Uniroyal Ferris Wheel, It’s a small World, Carousel of Progress, and Elsie the Cow attractions.

      There is a second video on this channel made on Video tape is named Roller Skating Memories 1983. It captures the original music played from the same rink. You will notice, this rink played traditional skating music. This homemade silent film was made 1972-1974 and wasn't able to capture the original sound. What you hear in the 1983 video is about what was heard back in the early 70's. I don't recall grooving 70's music being played at this rink.

    interesting that on these open reel machines the tape head is level, whereas on the more modern VCR's the head it set at a 45 Deg Angle, it that because of the way the tape is scanned? or is it at a 45 and you just cant see it because of the way the head is encased.?

This machine looks modified as the sony model has PL-259 video connectors for video. This machime could playback on any TV with the use of an RF modulator or a TV with a/v inputs

      That sound is from the brushes on the video drum. Quite a normal sound from that type of machine. Also that "buzzing" sound is the heads making contact with the tape. It used 2 heads 180° apart so as 1 head leaves the tape another one makes contact with the tape

    Reel to reel video recorders have been around since 1956. Technically, all video tape recorders are "reel to reel," it's just that in a cassette-based system, the reels are enclosed in a plastic case, and the tape is threaded automatically. I've been into video since 1979, but I can't be bothered with dusty old equipment any more!

    Wow, this brings back some memories. I got hired as a SysProg at a company migrating from a System/3 to a 4331. I also had heavy knowledge in RPG programming. About 3 years later we upgraded to a used 4361, I don’t remember the model number. It was maxed out on memory, well as much as the 4361 could support. It also had a Token Ring card in it, of all things. The IBM CE said it was the first T/R card he’d ever seen in a 4361. We never got to use it as the building wasn’t wired for that type of network or any network for that matter. We were still using coax cable. Oh, and we only ran VSE on it. It was a great little system.

    Some of these sign offs from CT are from the 1970's. WATR Ch. 20 in Waterbury would later become WTXX when it became independent. CPTV sold its Ch. 61 frequency to Arch Communications Corp. in the early 80's which then used it to start WTIC as an independent (later FOX) station.

    IBM 4300 DISASTER: I worked at PACE university(1980) in nyc, we had a IBM 360/50 running MUSIC(mc gill university time sharing system), The music system ran great. Students from 2 campuses used the terminals. Students quickly learned the music system, I found it very easy to teach COBOL on the system. THEN THE 4300 DISASTER: The morons running the college switched to a IBM 4341 running ibm VM. Mary Beth the new IT director, never bothered to tell the faculty that EVERYTHING will be new WHEN EVERYONE RETURNS IN THE FALL!!(FROM SUMMER VACATION) AND DIFFERENT. she offered no manual for mvs or vm OR TSO, and no training for the faculty on the new system!!! THE MANAGEMENT OF PACE UNIVERSITY DID NOT CARE THAT NOTHING WORKED, THE NEW 4300 RAN SO SLOW IT COULD NOT HANDLE THE 2 CAMPUSES. IT BECAME A JOKE SYSTEM. NYC CAMPUS GOT ONE HOUR ON THEN OFF FOR AN HOUR! WESTCHESTER GOT ONE HOUR ON THEN ONE HOUR OFF!!!. MORAL OF THE STORY: THE 4300 WAS A DOG,, THE MANAGEMENT OF PACE UNIVERSITY NAIVE AND INCOMPETENT(LIKE MOST UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT). AFTER THAT EXPERIENCE, I ALWAYS HATED THE 4300 MACHINE AND WOULD ALWAYS RECOMMEND ANY OTHER MACHINE TO MY CLIENTS. I was quite happy to see Microsoft server and linux take over the computer market and IBM become a jokei

      Well, I'll take a moment to disagree. I ran an entire life insurance company on a pair of 4341s. VM/SP, DOS/VSE, and CICS. A mix of shared 3350 and FBA DASD. The trick was configuring and tuning it properly. Stability was fairly good, maybe a crash every week or two and then confined to one of the VSE virtual machines. I loved that setup.

    • @deepsleep7822
      @deepsleep7822 9 месяцев назад

      @comp: I can see that happening if the machine wasn’t sized correctly. I ran VM and VSE under VM most of my career and they played well together. The thing is you gotta know how to tune the hardware and operating systems.

    • @rty1955
      @rty1955 8 месяцев назад

      Correct running VM or MVS on a 4300 series machine will be drastically slower as this was mean to run VSE
