I've been playing my Epi Elite Les Paul Standard Plus for the last 13 years. I bought it new when they first came out and have modified it quite a bit with CTS pots, paper-in-oil capacitors, Antiquity humbuckers and a light tailpiece. All of these changes have made the guitar more articulate, more touch sensitive and more 50's-like in tone...which is what I was going for. But when I listen to yours I'm reminded how good these sound in the stock configuration. Maybe not such a vintage sound, but a great sound nonetheless that works better for harder rock like you mentioned. It makes me want to get another just so I can have a stock one for it's particular sound and response. Thanks for posting.
Same with me. I bought mine when they first hit the stores, before they changed the name to Elitist. I also modded the heck out of it. I sold my Gibson R7 from the custom/historic shop and kept my Elite. Too bad they stop making them. Probably because the fit and finish is on par with Gibson's custom shop and it embarrassed and pissed them off..
I bought this very guitar a few months back for $1450 AUD. It is easily one of the best guitars I have ever played. I am used to playing entry level guitars so this was a huge step up for me.
Well, 5 years later I got my wish and obtained a stock 2004 Elitist LP Standard Plus in Faded Cherry Burst in great condition. Sounds like yours in this video and distinctly different than my modified one...which I've been constantly playing for 18 years now! When comparing the two, the modified one is more articulate, complex and responsive/dynamic to technique, but doesn't push as hard. The stock one has more push, more sustain and more low end and overall "guts" to the tone. As predicted, it's great to have them both and, for now, I'll just keep the newer one stock.
I have same epiphone lespaul and guitar is very very good Blues guitar. Many fender strato is bad versus this guitar. Very good playing👍I m from Finland.
Ive got a THR10 and an Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Ive never got close to good blues, crunch or lead tones and Ive concluded its likely to be the pickups which are no where near as punchy as the Gibson ones on their Les Pauls. I suppose you get what you pay for but what might be a good humbucker replacement set I could try to get closer to the Gibson? I thought about a P90 and something else????
Have this same Elite 2002 guitar in Wine Red (Serial Number 000145) would take mega bucks or a Gibson Les Paul standard to prise this fantastic guitar out of my ownership. The quality and sound is incredible, well what do you expect from Japan, no wonder Epiphone stopped the production later that decade it was taking the Gibson Studio to the cleaners. If you ever come across any of these Elite or Elitist Les Pauls and you think twice because it as Epiphone on the headstock don,t be fooled these are up there with the best guitars to have come out of Japan and are on par with the USA production of Gibsons...
***** Thanks for the tip. It took me a while to figure out it's a pentatonic scale which moved up a few frets! Now I get it. As a beginner I want to learn your playing. Where can I get the original backing track? btw. I just bought my epiphone les paul.
LesPaul That's cool, have fun with your guitar! I don't really have the backing track saved on my pc so you'll have to look for it yourself. Read the description and you'll know where to look ;)
I have a stock elite.. no changes needed. it sounds and feels great the way it is.. Imo.. beautiful guitar.. !!!
