is it really long neck tenon? many ppl say it isnt. ive been really wanting to look into the body of elite epi.

The classic 80 gets a bit of a wrinkled nose from me being the DSL40C speaker. I have a 4210 and it just sounds better in the combo format than the 40C, and I wonder how much is speaker choise, because I love DSLs. Ran a Sheffield and now a G12K-85. The M70 is underrated as a classic rock speaker, for me it takes you straight to the 70s with no worries about the low end farting out...or voice coils blowing up.

The M70 lacks bass, and may be piercing on its own, but is a perfect pairing with an H100 (bass heavy) from the same era. Cheers.

Ive got a THR10 and an Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Ive never got close to good blues, crunch or lead tones and Ive concluded its likely to be the pickups which are no where near as punchy as the Gibson ones on their Les Pauls. I suppose you get what you pay for but what might be a good humbucker replacement set I could try to get closer to the Gibson? I thought about a P90 and something else????

All the guitar parts on the first Zeppelin album were played on Tele aside from what was played on acoustic. So .. great choice of guitar, lad, you have great taste.

G12M-70 sounds best to me, but I like brighter speakers, and am a 60/70s pop rock player. Weirdest thing. I have a nice old Crate cab with two separately wired G12M-70s in it. Closed back and the two compartments are sealed off for each speaker with its own input jack. The speakers are stamped 4 ohms each. I wonder if maybe they were made for a Crate amp that could go down to 2 ohms, or if someone just made the cab that way. Don't know, but there is a Celestion Equipped badge on the grill cloth, so maybe it came like that. I only use one speaker at a time, due to most of my heads don't go down to 2 ohms. Anybody have any info on this? May just be a fluke, but could be cool to find some info that has been lost about its particular application. I have thought of wiring it in series to make it 8 ohms.

G12M-70 may be the worst sounding speaker I've ever heard...I've heard speakers out of old tube TVs that sounded better...

The G12m-70 speaker is underated. It has a greenback flavour to it. It's a bit gnarly and mean, think Billy Gibbons tone. I love it in the 4210. I also put one in my Deluxe Reverb, as it has a good neutral response. The Lead 80 is tighter and that is why metal heads love it. But for classic rock and blues the G12M-70 is a better choice.

Just needs a little spitty fuzz pedal shifting the bias to nail the sound I think - something like a range master

Perfect is the enemy of good! Great work, this one has been kicking my ass for a few weeks. Like you said, I know the notes, just can't put it all together full speed quite yet. That's the lure of this instrument to me, you never know what the next take will sound like.

G12 70's sound best in a sealed cab, not so much in open back, Vintage 30's are better in open back

G12M70 sounds like it will cut more in a twin guitar situation. Also read from Marshall that G12M70 was used with the 800 series as it allowed for full tonal usage of the EQ. Did you notice any EQ difference after the swap?

Smart lad...spent more money on the amp than the guitar. Sooo many fools get this backwards.. (Good job on the solo too).

I used to have a Sovtek Mig 100 and a Celestion Messiah 4X12 in the 90s until it got stolen. I've tried to replicate that sound with a Marshall JCM800 and Green back, but honestly.. it's not as good. It's taken me ages to figure out that the dorky generic 90s celestion was a little bit magic!
