- In this Bonsai video we are styling a Juniper Cascade! This Bonsai tree was repot into some fresh Bonsai soil earlier in the year and now it is time to give it a shape!
Part One of This Cascade (Repotting): • How to create a Junipe...
Hi everyone! Today, I'll explain how to style a Juniper Cascade that we worked on earlier this year. I cover various Bonsai processes from how to clean up the tree, wiring, shaping, pruning and more!
One crucial aspect that I cover in this video is the understanding that most Bonsai are not created instantly; rather, they evolve over time. The development of foliage pads on this cascade will require a few years to fully mature and achieve compact growth. This gradual and steady growth process mirrors the nature of larger trees. It underscores the importance of patience and consistency in the world of Bonsai, shifting the focus away from instant gratification and emphasizing long-term dedication. Every twist and curve in a Bonsai's trunk, each carefully pruned branch, and the meticulous sculpting of its foliage all signify the artist's deep connection with the passage of time. This element truly contributes to what makes Bonsai so exceptionally special to me.

Great looking tree sir, this is going to be a beautiful example of a cascade when it's finished. I have just started to watch your videos, very informative and easy to follow and understand. I have been working with an olive tree that I have had for about 5-6 years and a working at trimming and repotted 3 times so far. It is doing well, I may have to repot to a smaller pot. Thanks for your help and advice, I will try to use other types of plants to work with.

Hi Adam very informative thank you I have just purchased a juniper like yours would it be ok to style it in the autumn then repot it in the spring keep up the good work
Hi Richard! To be on the super safe side I would repot one year then wait a year before styling. Or vise versa! 😄
@notionbonsai Thanks Adam fair advice can I do some styling in autumn
❤️❤️
Nice video! Your video and communication skills are really good! You can also consider next time to do more detail wiring to all the little branches so that you get more definition in your design! Keep up the great work! Maybe we could do a collaboration some day!
As always, I enjoy your videos. Great information on styling. When you trim tips of your Juniper, do the cut areas ever turn brown? Have you or can you give us a view of your Bonsai? Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate your kind words!! 😊 When trimming Juniper tips, they can turn brown due to a few reasons: incorrect cutting technique, harsh environmental conditions, or insufficient recovery time. Ensuring sharp, clean tools and making precise cuts at an angle can help minimize browning. Providing appropriate aftercare, such as keeping the tree well-hydrated and shielded from extreme conditions, also aids in preventing browning. I post shots of my trees and updates on my Instagram ... it's @notionbonsai 🤗
Great 411. I will pay much closer attention to pruning. All the best to you. Thanks

How often would you water this plant with this type of soil mix Adam?
Hi, Bending is best left for the dormant period.
Hey thanks for the advice Tjeerd 😊
