Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another Pentatonix reaction back by popular demand with Bohemian Rhapsody. This cover was absolutely annihilated. Freddie is looking down on these guys and saying "YOU DID IT!." See my face fall straight to floor, as I name this the best thing I've seen ever!

The couch is a reference to their career. Their early videos were filmed sitting on a couch in their apartments, and now look where it has taken them!
I will repeat what I said before, Pentatonix is to acapella groups, what the "precious" meant to the rings in Middle Earth....One to rule them all.

The shot of the stars near the end is a nod to Queen's guitarist, Brian May. After Queen broke up, he went back to school and got a PhD in astrophysics.
The 4 shooting stars, are to recognize the original members of Queen.

And the megaphone was just a prop. He does it in the microphone in concert.
There is a behind the scenes video for this. I hope you watch it and when Scott is close up looking at the camera watch behind him bc Kevin falls off the couch. When they pulled the walls together everything fell so they had to reset for that. They filmed from 11 at night and finish right before the sun came up. Correct me if I'm wrong pentaholics.
They waited a little over 5 years to do this. They wanted to make sure that they could do it justice.
I'm sure someone has said this but queens guitarist Brian May posted this and said:"ENJOY". So we know he liked it. When you were talking about the instruments at the beginning I just kept saying just wait just wait. I also love how Kevin is mimicking playing the drums with his arms.
Some reactors watch videos like this twice in the reaction and trust me we pentaholics do not mind one bit

I love how people mention Mitch channeling Freddie and being an electric guitar and Kevin being a whole drum set in this song, but I wish people would notice Avi being a bass guitar here too!

They are so good that emotion is the normal reaction. When they lay down on couch at end they are recreating a Queen album cover pose!

I love that your mouth was just hanging open for about 3/4 of this song! XD They waited around 5 years to make this because they wanted to make sure it was perfect, and paid tribute to Queen. Brian May posted it to his own FB page, and told his fans to “Enjoy”
I’d highly recommend reacting to their performance of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” There, you’ll see them BEING the instruments, as there are no words in it. It won them their second Grammy, too

Brian May loved this. The couch was from there early RUclips videos. The megaphone was a prop. The remote controlled couch tried to run everyone over. Fear the couch.

Great reaction Dereck. As always. Obviously, the video wasn't shot in one take (there's a video out on youtube of the Making of Bohemian Rhapsody video). Just trying not to die on the couch was fun. But recording the song is in one take because PTX won't do anything unless they can do it live in shows. And there are videos of them doing this live. The best thing of all to me though is the reaction of Brian May, guitarist for queen. At the end, when you see the stars shooting across the screen, that was an homage to Dr. Brian May, astrophysicist. But after seeing the video he tweeted "Great Version: Bohemian Rhapsody by Pentatonix. Enjoy". You don't get any higher praise than that. There's so much in this video, but it's amazing. Glad you reacted.

Sing, Come Along, White Winter Hymn, are some that will amaze you all over again.
According to folks who follow PTX more closely than I do and have attended concerts, the megaphone was actually just a prop and was not turned on, and they no longer use it in live shows.
Can confirm, Mitch does it without the megaphone and it sounds just as good!

Dude u Check out some of their Originals, Never gonna Cry again, Run to You, On my Way Home, Side are really nice tunes. Also, one of my favs is their Version of Charlie Puth's Song Attention, such a groovy thing they made.

They long ago gelled as a group. If you look for their videos from "The Face Off" (an a capella group TV competition), there is a moment when they did "Let's Get It On" (old Marvin Gaye song) where the audience goes nuts. They pan the camera to the other groups in the competition. They have the appearance of "Oh, crap, is there anything we can get for 2nd place - 'cause we got no hope of winning." After that, pretty much everything they did approached FANTASTIC. They have done so many different songs in so many different genres that they are hard to characterize as anything other than VERSATILE. Their Grammies (3 of them) are in Holiday music, Electronic, and Country. They've done a LOT of holiday and religious music - but they've done other things like 90's dance music, movie music ("Making Christmas" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas") To understand just HOW phenomenal they are, you have to contemplate the range of their discography.
That’s PTX at their brilliant best and Brian May shared this and sort of gave it his stamp of approval. Thanks for posting.
The couch. Yes an important part of the Pentatonix inner circle early on. For this video it was promoted from "supporting" cast to co-star. On their 2019 tour the couch even makes an onstage cameo appearance during their throw back segment.
The beatboxer is Kevin and there’s no Allie in the group. You may already know that this was Avi’s last music video with ptx and their new bass is named Matt.
Also if you haven’t reacted to Imagine, I highly recommend that!

I was half expecting drool out of your month. The entire performance is brilliant, but Mitch doing the Brian May guitar riff with his voice is out of this world. Watch a live video and he makes those sounds with just his voice (the megaphone is a prop).

Such a great reaction! I always enjoy watching your reaction videos. Your enthusiasm and genuine delight in music is so much fun to watch and share with you. I have been around long enough to have heard a lot of really great music. But, I have never heard a group of vocalists that make such amazing music. They sing with such emotion as well as with impeccable music technique. I love to hear all kinds of music, but Pentatonix is definitely the very best. Anything they do is top notch, but a couple of my personal favorites are "Love Again" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos.

Perfect, Shallows, Run to You ( their own), Amazing Grace, Be my Eyes, My Favorite Things and just about everything. Suggestion watch the beginners guide to Pentatonix, or their appearances on what was the series The Sing Off. Where PTX was more or less born.

Yes this is why they didn't do it earlier but they got it done before Avi left so it didn't have to wait for a new member to get comfortable in the band.

When a song is written it becomes a hit hopefully but some songs elevate your emotions whether it be anger or happy or sadness or grief and others inspire you we all have songs that trigger times and places and loss and love, broken hearts, and then we get the ones who you do not like ANYONE singing them except that artist. For me this is that song, and when someone told me they had released it, as much as I love Pentatonix for me this was one step to far, Queen are my group I grow up with them I have seen them live was at Live Aid, I have every single album they have ever released my son is nagging me constantly to let him have them and I will not give in, they are in pristine condition and they will stay like that. Then I seen Brian May had pushed this on his own sites and all he said was ENJOY so because he liked it I bit the bullet and did it, and I WAS BLOWN AWAY, I already know just how talented they are but this was something special, to be able to capture all the nuances of the track and still keep it QUEEN and Pentatonix at the same time was nothing short of PHENOMENAL.
This is why they are the number 1 acapella group in the world, they don't trash any song they elevate it so you go and listen to the original and its not until you remember it you realise these people are special.
Freddy would have loved this and he would have loved MITCH.

PTX took this classic and blew it the hell up. Freddy, and Queen, must be so proud. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this performance from their original and all the reactors who have responded to it, and each time it's as if I'm seeing it for the first time.

This is a classic topnotch performance from PTX and your reaction was just as it should be -- stunned awe!
There's a behind the scenes for this on the ptx channel, shows the issues they had with the couch and the fact it was recorded in one night. Maybe not a reaction vid but def one I'd recommend to check out in your own time. There are not many ptx vids I wouldn't recommend (and that is due to personal preference not their skill in any way, they could sing a shopping list and I'd watch at least once!) Nothing a pentaholic loves more than another person discovering the bottomless talent this group have 😀

Brian May is actually Dr. Brian May. He is an astrophysicist. The best scene in which they're looking up at the night sky is homage to Brian May being an astrophysicist. There are four shooting stars and I always wondered about that because there are 5 members in PT. I found out it's an homage to Brian May then the store shooting stars make sense. At least that's how I interpret the shooting starts..

There is a lot of symbolism in the things they did. I don't know all of them, but maybe someone can share.
I loved your reaction; you were genuinely blown away. There is no doubt that the members of this group and their arranger (Usually Ben Bram) are music a capello geniuses. I want to remind you though that you are still calling the female singer "Kristin." Her name is Kirstin, and she is usually called Kirstie, which rhymes with "thirsty," for short. Keep on reviewing PTX, dude, because you ain't seen nothing yet. This group has won three Grammy awards, and should have won one for this cover. No other a capello group that I know of has won even one Grammy. Watch their cover of "Sound of Silence."
