- Van Halen concert. Bethel Woods, NY.
Eddie Van Halen cannot finish Cathedral and finishes with Eruption. Not sure what happened, seems like he is blaming the delay but it sounds like its still working
He was so patient! And in the end he just says “oh well, eruption time!” And through it all, the crowd is cheering him on.
You know you are the best there's ever been when a multitude chants your name even during equipment failure, Eddie could do no wrong, thats greatness, the legend himself Mr. Eddie Van Halen, R.I.P. old friend.
Truth! Long Live The King!!!
Sounds like the delay was set wrong, it's a tricky timing to recapture on the fly. Good save Eddie!
The tech saved the day. Eddie could play that stuff in his sleep.
Wow. When Eddie dipped into Eruption, he came in with a fury of a typhoon. There will never be anyone quite like Eddie. I still can’t believe he is gone. He’s hands down the biggest influence on my own playing. When VH 1 came out it made me almost quit. lol I’d been playing a few years and was getting Cream and Zeppelin numbers down fairly well. I hear Eruption and go...well if this is the new bar then I’m out. Lol But I kept listening and became very inspired. I was always chasing that tone and his unmatched feel. His phrasing, attack, and dexterity was a thing of pure legend. R.I.P. Eddie forever the GOAT 🎸🙏
Yeah. You and a million other bro.
He was a one of a kind.
@Bronze Wolf nope.
@Bronze Wolf not even close and don't even try to say Randy Rhoads
Randy's fucking solos are simple to play I could play them after playing three years. Eddie's an improviser and a composer he could write songs around Randy any day of the week Randy could not write songs Quiet Riot songs suck ass only time Randy songs came into fruition with when Bob daisley was writing with him and Bob daisley was the main component of that songwriting team so you're ignorant and don't know shitt
You're obviously stupid if you think Randy solos would too fast for Eddie Randy was not a fast guitar player he struggled live G's
Eruption...never gets old. Still think it sounds just as good today as it did when it first came onto the scene. RIP...Eddie Van Halen. He changed the game.
We take his genius for granted
Truly a Master...I still can't believe that he's gone R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen The King! 👑🎸😎
DAMNIT. I wanted him to play technical difficulties by paul gilbert
Technical difficulties messed up Cathedral, then proceeds to play Eruption tapping section at a blinding wrist cramping speed, but still maintaining a clarity in his tone that will remain unmatched! King Ed's music will live forever!
my hand was cramping just watching him!!
That must the fastest I've heard him play that.
In a weird way, I appreciate when things don’t work right in a live show. I don’t care about perfection and it makes the music feel more alive and crafted and organic. I know most musicians would cringe at such an idea, and it’s hard to articulate what I mean, but if we wanted perfect duplication, we’d just play the tape in the car and be done with it. I think working around something like this gets even more mad respect from myself, and cheer them on like they’re a lion tamer getting that beast to perform.
I consider myself so lucky to have lived in this time. Growing up with Van Halen.
Yes, I feel the same way I am fortunate to have seen him back in the day... Once with David Lee Roth and Twice with Sammy Hagar! 🤘🎸😎
@@DarkKhagan oh wow! Wonder what tour you seen David Lee Roth? He was one of THE BEST frontmen/ vocalist ever. You know the long dropping sound at the beginning of" Runnin With The Devil" is a Ford pinto car horn? David came in with that whistle and shrieks intertwined with Eddie's spine tingling guitar. After I heard that album for the first time, my life changed. Seriously. I envy you, Steppe.
@@todddavis4274
I saw them with David Lee Roth 8/21/82 at Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland OH. It was the Diver Down/The Hide Your Sheep Tour (1982-1983).
Then I saw them twice again with Sammy Hagar on The 5150 Tour
5/13/86 at Pittsburgh Civic Arena and 7/25/86 at Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland OH. 🤘🎸😎
@@DarkKhagan When the world was a treasure. Rock on, comrade!
Crazy how you can miss someone you never even knew. Saw him so many times at so many concerts over so many decades its sad to know you wont ever see him on stage again...😔
From the backyards of Pasadena to the heavens above. RIP Edward..you were (and remain) a force of tectonic magnitude .
Whatever it was that caused the problem also caused Eddie to go back into the solo hotter than he usually is. He's played essentially the same solo since the late 80's and it was little things like this that added a different spark sometimes.
Rest in peace eddie. so glad I went to this show had a blast
The greatest!!! The master!! The one and only Eddie Van Halen! The man with the magic touch!!! So incredibly talented!!
...and then BLISTERS like he's 22 again.
Tom Weber is a great guy and knows his stuff! Great save Tom 🤘🏻🤘🏻
And...... he recovers like a Pro !!!
Great moment. Shows that things can go wrong at the least likely times. Hearing the fury of Eruption that came at the end would've been worth sitting through a few minutes of technical difficulties. No problem.
absolutely'
Yeah I didn't figure it out. I hear the delay the whole time the tech is messing with it. Thought I heard him step on a wah. I think the tech bypassed it when he started playing Eruption.
Just slammed right Into eruption
I've never seen him dressed like the rich man and Legend that he was. That's legendary in itself 🤘 RIP
Launches into the hardest part of Eruption with fire and ease and fluidity that only he can do!
And so chill about the whole episode. No bitching out his tech over the PA, no throwing the guitar into the pit, just lightheartedly letting the tech take a crack at it knowing there's plenty of other things he can do. Great clip of a classy pro handling a technical issue in a live situation. THANK YOU!
So......you wanna be EVH’s guitar tech........good luck with that!
I was reading that back when, his guitar tech made upwards of $200K per tour.
😮
The man had so much class. Wow really miss having him in the World :(
Instead of shouting and bawling at the tech he smiles that wicked smile and laughs his ass off before ripping into Eruption. What a loss, poor Eddie x
Sammy and Mikey have other means of Class after 1995 ...
Yeah he doesn't yell at the tech just gives that iconic smile but pretty sure after the Eddie asked him wtf? but it was a delay peddle screwing up!! R.I.P EVH
He's Eddie. Not Yngwie.
@@JoeR203 EXACTLY Yngwie recently had probs with his amp or some crap and he was all pissed naturally but yelling at his tech and then laughing going on to make it as if oh my techs an idiot bla bla bla! it reminds me of Day on the Green day #1 in 1985 I believe but anyways Yngwie (as Rising Force band) was shredding and all of a sudden bamm,no sound,Yngwie didn't notice for a minute that he's playing and rest of the band was loud and clear but NO Yngwie 😆 he walked off very pissed naturally pissed off but he was over at side stage freaking out then it took a couple minutes then amp problem fixed he then went on to put on awesome show but anyways point is Eddie just shrugs it OFF but I'm sure Eddie in his way younger days may have been a bit more aggressive but either way it would suck bad in front of 10's thousands if people like that 😨 cuz your only as good as your equipment! so they say but I disagree just a little about that.
Yeah Eddie is a sweetheart especially compared to Yngwie recently had probs with his amp or some crap and he was all pissed naturally but yelling at his tech and then laughing going on to make it as if oh my techs an idiot bla bla bla! it reminds me of Day on the Green day #1 in 1985 I believe but anyways Yngwie (as Rising Force band) was shredding and all of a sudden bamm,no sound,Yngwie didn't notice for a minute that he's playing and rest of the band was loud and clear but NO Yngwie 😆 he walked off very pissed naturally pissed off but he was over at side stage freaking out then it took a couple minutes then amp problem fixed he then went on to put on awesome show but anyways point is Eddie just shrugs it OFF
The real deal..no backing track like so many other bands
Their backing vocals were pre-recorded on this tour.
When all else fails, go right into Eruption. Happy birthday sir. 😑🙏👑
Eddie made everyone forget about that technical issue real quick....
That is his guitar tech. He has a youtube channel now and a very informative one for strat and whammy bar lovers.
Eddie was a quantum leap, we won't see another like him in our lifetime.
EVH. The epitome of a true stand up guy. Rock n Roll's most genuine heart. He along with his legacy will live forever.
The legend the master the best around.
I love eddie man he got sober.im trying
RIP Eddie G.O.A.T. Van Halen. The King of 10 Fingers and Six Strings.
💦😂💦
Now that’s funny
Love how they scream, "EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE!!!" It's just awesome 🤘🤘🎸🎸
He was in a much better head space this tour than that first tour I saw back in 2007. On that tour, he tossed a floor wedge off the side of the stage without any regard to was on the other side of it coming down.
Rest in Power, King Edward.
I can't believe that I am so damn lucky to have been old enough to listen to music and understand it before Eddie Van Halen became famous...I was there when he hit the scene, ruled the scene, and I am here after his unfortunate untimely passing witnessing tributes and listening to the love for EVH . Thank you God for allowing me to live when Eddie Van Halen lived. I've seen all I need and I'm ready to die.
Eddie just watching the guy fix his stuff and BOOM!!! gets right into eruption like it was nothing but a warm up. Lolll RIP EVH.
Dude has to stop playing for a few seconds so some one can fix his rig.... Crowd fills in the silence by screaming "Eddie, Eddie"... The man, the myth, the legend
You know your huge when people cheer when you have technical difficulties. Like when Dale Earnhardt would crash out early and limp around the track for 250 laps, but people still cheered when he went by.
This happened in every live band I was ever in. When you have a sea of cables anyone can short out at any time. It's always a bummer.
Still hard to believe he's gone.
I was at show. It was weird he stayed away from his pedalboard for the rest of the show pretty much lol
Saw concert last night, was confused when Cathedral didn't get to be finished.
And maybe it's a Roth curse??...I noticed quite a few times when they reformed with Roth there seemed to be technical problems or injurys..lol
Technical difficulties or not...we love him and always will! RIP EVH xoxoxo
And here I thought, because of the title, Eddie was gonna start playing the Paul Gilbert song "Technical Difficulties".
Can you imagine the frustration? Lol “imma play eruption faster than humanly possible”
I miss him. I can only imagine what Wolfgang and Valerie have been going through. I know he was still legally married to Janie but she had already moved out a couple years before he died. According to Valerie,Edward was pretty much alone except for a good friend that help take care of him. Drove him around to dr. Appointments and cooked for him. This is in Valerie’s book Enough Already!
For those who got to see the one and only, Eddie Van Halen, consider yourselves lucky. Rest easy big guy
miss that man more &
more every fuckin day🎶😕
I was super confused last night but I'm glad he got to finish
Eddie makes it look so easy.
Even his "mistakes" sound better than most people on their best day. IMO.
That's why I like racks and not pedal boards.... Seen him in 2004 same thing happened to him
If you think that tech wasn't on 11, you're mistaken. NASA would bow to his analyzing and repair skills. Eddie had the best of the best techs.
He took it so easy...snd there you get it..BAMMMMM
there was another youtuber who recorded them doing sound check at the Sunset Strip concert and he was checking his pedals and some didn't work. The same guy was there trying to look at the pedals and did the same moves.
Gotta wonder if it was meant to be a part of the show.
@@Tilbily LOL yeah the tech kinda odda place.
HANDLED LIKE A PRO ZERO FUCKS GIVEN Love you Eddie
Still with this technical problem he rocks
There's just Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and Michael Schenker for Rock guitar. Then everyone else... ♫
That tech was fired later that evening and never heard from again.
Actually, that's Tom Webber. They've been pals since '88 and was his tour tech since '07. God bless his soul.
I've been lucky enough to see the legend three times! Unfortunately not in the real hey day but 98 he was still in his prime, another time in 07 I think with Roth and this show, the first time at the Garden was far and above the best concert of my life.
Eddie just killed on Eruption when he was sober;
The King, period!!!!!
The king of annoyance that 2 hand tapping 💩 was by far annoying as HELLLLLLLL
Best guitarist of all time.
Just say no 2 drugs bro
This is the CLASS ACT King Edward was. Unlike King YNG or Blackmore, EVH doesn't throw a shit fit, unload on his guitar tech, etc. He simply laughs it off as if "hey look... its NO BIG DEAL". Its live rock n roll. And for those of you "live stage band dragon slayers" you can relate. Yeah... more often than not, something can and USUALLY does go wrong at a rock show.
Still played it better than I could’ve!
I was in the crowd still gives me chills!🎸
And this is how you know it’s actually live.
THE MASTER!!!
Yeah of that 2 hand tapping 💩
Really nice save.
The delay went south lol
I wish he would have used the striped guitars on his last tour.
damn he played eruption just as fast as 77’ on the record. just fuck up his shit and he’ll play faster.
Faster actually. And he should have gotten rid of Cathedral 20 years before this gig because it’s so boring.
Fantastic guitarist
GOAT!
Eddie fired that guy 😂
I just may buy a Frankenstrat kit. I researched the knowledge (&I thank you all), downloaded 1 & have the facilities and electrical tape. 🙏🙏RIP ELVH 🙏🙏
Miss you ed! RIP!
When i play cathedral i go straight into the amp...then a line out into my effeccts....then into another stack....then line out again into another stack....i do that 15 times....thats 15 full stacks....so its straight into stack....line out into effects....into a stack....that line out into a stack....that line out into a stack....and so forth....15 x....takes some getting used to....uses quite a bit of juice...
I call it a wall o sound.....1 st rime i used thus rig in a tiny club in delaware called rustys....fortunately the place was empty cos the whole rig blew up....very loud....since then still workin out some bugs....takes time.
😂
@@RyanConnell5150 just kiddin...love Eddie's wall of amps though...i have played through a wall a marshals . its hard to rein un that beast.
He still kept his cool....👍
This is why you keep extra patch cables
Thought he was gonna play a tribute to Paul Gilbert.
Mozart would probably yawn and be bored thinking "same thing as last time i saw him "
💥 The. 🎸 Greatest…EVH💥
I will be just fine if I never hear eruption played ever again
I thought this was going to be a video of him playing Paul Gilbert.
That's why he should have stuck with the cord straight into the amp!
I thought he was gonna play Technical Difficulty during cathedral
Thought he was actually going to play Technical Difficulties.
The Maestro
Did anyone else was expecting THE SONG Technical Difficulties from Racer X?
Thought he was going full Racer X from the title 😂😂
his pedal broke
One very cool cat man.. God bless him.
Damn, just imagine if this happened during live without a net😬😂
I'd love to know exactly what kind of delay pedal it was
Wolfgang can play these licks note for note. ❤
Happy Bday Eddie 66 🎸🍺🎂
I'm sure he bought the tech a house after this.
