2:30 The result of that peeling attempt looks even more surrealist than the butcher cover was to begin with. It also reminds me of the cover designs for the various Anthology volumes.
MattHatter then purposely spills coffee. Plays record but still works. It is possessed by the beatle demon. His nickname is “9”. The demon then says (finish the story) “
I bought my copy when in came out at Kmart in Tulsa. I immediately noticed the black triangle...I cranked up the tea pot and started trying to steam it off...but both covers wanted to come off...so I stopped. Still a framed prize possession in my music library. Thanks for the pressing info.
A couple days ago I found a original butcher cover with the sleeve in almost perfect condition and the record in 7/10 condition no skips or anything. Found it in Atlanta for $27 dollars and even the cashier recognized what it was. Definitely my prized possession now.
Found one on Saturday in San Antonio, a second state. Got it for $95. Still in shock. Also grabbed a original press Pink Floyd A Saucerful of Secrets for $60
I own a mono 1st state. My father who passed away bought it and found one the year he died. I received it for Christmas that year as like a last gift. I have no idea how or where he found it but I framed it and is displayed on my wall. It is something I will never sell and will hold on to forever. My first state is very sentimental to me. I enjoy looking at it and thinking of my father. It is a prized possession.
I have one! I was 4 years old and will never forget my olders sisters flying through the front door! My oldest sister Pam was peeling off the plastic cover, while telling my sister Kathy to get a wash, wet wash cloth. They successfully got the top off to reveal the Butcher Cover.
I picked this up at a thrift store today. There’s a Nancy Sinatra sticker over the Beatles one on the vinyl. On the back, it’s an RIAA 3. You mentioned 4,5 and 6
Fantastic. Nice job. I fumbled upon this trying to explain to a friend how to spot a 2nd state cover. Excellent, to the point and extremely well spoken. I even learned a few things and I thought I knew it all. BTW, I own a 2nd and a 3rd state.
Speaking of bootlegs, there was a release called Casualties that featured the butcher cover as well. It was patterned after the US Rarities album with other alternate versions of songs. It is quite good, actually, with a silver and black Capitol label and a professional looking sleeve. The sound quality is very good as well.
I got mine due to one of the first Boston Beatles conventions in the seventies. In my inexperience, I put word out that I was in possession of the record store window display for Meet The Beatles. ( on which the heads oscillate by battery). So I traded with a very savvy New Jersey guy for the butcher cover and some cash, etc. Years later, the internet came out and the display sold at a rock and roll auction for 28K. And that was about ten or fifteen years ago. The only saving grace is that the guy who got the display from me is the real deal because I saw his name listed on the credits of the movie Imagine as a consultant. BTW, I paid twenty-five dollars for the window display in 1975.
Was in spitalfields market in London today and I found a butcher cover!! Sadly it was a bootleg cause it was only £15 and it had a blue disc But still I was so shocked when I saw it I thought I’d never see one in person, bootleg or not 😂😂
late to the party...thanks for the best two videos on the Butcher cover I've seen. I would like to get a copy of the stereo slick like you have to glue on. I have two near mint stereo 2nd state covers but don't want to peel them. I have gotten a few "fake" covers but the slick you showed seemed much better quality. Hope you can help..keep up the good work.
I love this video!! Again you explained it perfectly! They are a sight to behold. That's for sure. I do the same thing with my video on my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd state butcher cover, if you would like to see them side by side. (You do it so much better!) I have another video with the 1st state up close and personal. Again this video rocks. Take care. Peace!
Got mine with trunk when album came out in '66, read in paper about Ringo's black & yep there it was. Did a decent job steaming it off. Youngsters may wish to know back then no promo of new albums (at least in Portland). Just go to "new releases" bin. I had enough for one album, but there was Beatles and Stones Aftermath. Decided Beatles because what if I don't like 11 min of Going home? Got Aftermath next week.... That trunk was part of hoax Paul is dead, as supposed to represent casket... still have album. What the heck....
I just bought a butcher 3ed state it’s a Great peel there are some bubbles/ripples on the cover I wonder if in time how it will hold up but I am staying positive and enjoying the fact that I have one where does the bubbling/ripples go come from?
Hello! I was wondering if you could do a review of the red and blue albums! I know they’re compilations but that’s how a lot of people got introduced to The Beatles!
Nice video, well presented. I didn’t know about the numbers on the back cover identifying the Beatles Capitol U.S. east coast/west coast LP pressings; the 45s were always easy to identify by the type of font used on the original swirl labels.
I own either a first state or a third state that was peeled with very few flaws. Problem is that it is in a custom made plexiglass case that I had made for it in the seventies and so I cannot measure it. . Yes, I have owned this since about 1975. and the back cover has been slightly damaged by residual glue used where the case maker glued on a wall mounting bracket. And to top it off, I had removed the capitol vinyl to prevent "disc shaped memory" and that disc got damaged and tossed. Now am retired and at age sixty-six, bringing four boxes of records to a store for probably a few dollars because I cannot bear to toss them in the dumpster.
Hi love your channel. I am stretching my memory a bit here but during my first stint in Japan, it would have been around 97-98, I came across some Butcher covers in a collectors record store. They had one priced at around 80000 yen and a couple of cheaper ones at around 20000 yen.The cheaper ones were clearly labled as reproductions with an up to date release date on the back. The cover from memory was an exact replica. Can`t give you any more info but maybe they were released as some kind of limited Anthology cash in. Just speculating.
By the way the American Rarities insert cover oh, there are two copies of the Butcher picture won the full pictures showing the Beatles legs, and another one they crop the picture a little bit more. So there are two different versions of the Butcher picture on the inside of the American Rarities album. I just thought you'd like to know that.
When Capitol Records recalled the butcher covers to paste over a new photo for the album, Capitol president Allan Livingston kept a box of 20 butcher cover albums. He had 5-6 stereo albums (which are the rarest of the the rare butcher covers), and the rest were mono butcher covers. These were albums shrink wrapped, unopened, pristine condition. Before Allan died, he gave the box of butchers to his son to do with whatever he pleased. Allan even typed up a letter of authenticity for his son . Allan's son would take a couple of butcher cover albums to Beatlefests in Los Angeles to sell. One time he sold what he thought was a mono butcher cover, but ended up being a stereo butcher cover. These "Livingston Butchers" are the holy grail of butcher covers, and sell for up to six figures if you can get one.
5:47 Those aren't bootlegs but counterfeits. A bootleg is a completely original album made with a concert recording captured at the venue or from a radio broadcast and made available commercially without the record company's consent, while a counterfeit is an unauthorized, fake copy of an album part of an artist's official canon.
Jack Whites group the Ranconteurs must have liked this as their new Lp Help Us Stranger has a peel off cover that shows the members in a similar pose with the smocks etc. Only problem is that it was a Vault members limited edition and is now fetching over $100.00 on auction sites. Search RUclips for Ranconteurs butcher cover unpeeling to to see one.
Great job at explaining this in detail. I'm always going through everyone's basement collection in search of the elusive "Butcher Cover". I have a coloured full-sized copy framed, but always looking for an original here in Canada. Great video.
I got my copy in 2011 in a box lot that I paid next to nothing for. The cover is detached, and has significant wear. It is probably ideal to peal my copy, but I would rather keep it as it is.
No mention of the fold over at the top...I’ve just laid my hands on one...brokering a deal for my friend who owns it. Hard to authenticate without a pro’s experience. It all seems correct, down to the matrix variants now.
I have a VG++ / NM no. 4., Jacksonville Plant pressing,, Butcher (Uncertain). is it true they used a different glue application, not allowing to see bleed through of Ringo-V??
Heyyy thanks for the awesome video. A friend of mine gave me the tip that I had a butcher cover. Your video answered a lot of questions. I have 1 more - mine has the pressing #3 which I see is Scranton, Pennsylvania. Where does this fall on the rare-common scale??
I found a second or third state at my local antique mall, I would have bought it for the 20 bucks, but the actual record was damaged beyond repair and was pretty much flat
i think i have a Butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over it (second state). It's mono. Has a number 3 on the back right. Rainbow label on black vinyl inside. Inner sleeve advertises other Capitol artists albums ... record has little scratches on it. Outer sleeve has some slightly worn corners, but still legible. Any value ? From passed away friend.
Hello I’m a new subscriber and I gotta say I love the show, I’m really surprised at how you don’t have as many subscribers as you should have especially considering how good quality this show is, it should be a lot higher in my opinion, but anyways I gotta say I love the videos, the set, the reviews, it’s all great, and honestly I don’t know if it’s just me but eventually do you think you could do a tour video of the set and set up some time, I feel like a lot of people would want to see it, me included. But anyways, keep up the good work!
The album has unique mono mixes of "I'm Only Sleeping", "Doctor Robert" and "And Your Bird Can Sing". Unreleased on CD. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yesterday_and_Today#Song_selection
I bought a 3RD STATE butcher on ebay..... but I have doubts; it's slightly 'rough' but seemingly from the glue residue, and not the 'basketweave' texture of the original paper. Now it could be that the texture has become clogged with glue, so has less basketweave feel. I'm worrying that a smooth repro slick has been pressed convincingly to a y&t cover and covered with glue! Believe me they are extremely rare here also. Only real chance is buying on ebay (which you can do also).... Maybe Ill get lucky and run into one....And its definitely more likely over here.. But in reality its not where you live, its what you are willing to spend.
@@mercurialmagictrees I actually came back to say just the opposite. That in order for us to get any UK stuff we pay $20 shipping. You could easily buy a butcher off ebay and pay too much shipping also. Its not like you just walk into a record store and they are laying around here in the states. Maybe ill find one someday, but I have yet to (and i look)
Recently invested in a 2nd state. Other that a hole punch in the corner, it’s in really good condition. Only complaint is it is a little yellowish - although, not surprising figuring the age of the album
Thank you. I thought I had a Mono 2nd State cover but never really heard it explained like you have. I pulled out my album and it does have the blank triangle visible. It's a #6 so it was pressed in LA. It's in relatively good condition but it was definitely used. Is it worth looking to selling it or should I hang on to it?
2:30 The result of that peeling attempt looks even more surrealist than the butcher cover was to begin with. It also reminds me of the cover designs for the various Anthology volumes.
"At that moment this record became priceless to me." (Puts record on the floor)
skoolbus haha at least it was not tossed
(lays record on coffee table and proceeds to sit drink on it) =)
MattHatter then purposely spills coffee. Plays record but still works. It is possessed by the beatle demon. His nickname is “9”. The demon then says (finish the story) “
Wrath's Heinous Anus Was Devoured by Happy Scrappy why does the demon say throws in trash
😂

Thanks for the explanation..!! I got lucky in a local goodwill and wound up with a state 1 and state 2 and a few other Beatles albums
Found one on Saturday in San Antonio, a second state. Got it for $95. Still in shock. Also grabbed a original press Pink Floyd A Saucerful of Secrets for $60
Any US Beatles album prior to Sgt Pepper is a Butcher album. Butchered by Capitol Records!
Magical mystery tour was the only one they did right.
Yeah, but it meant we got a new Beatles LP every few months. The fans in the UK had to wait longer. Same thing with the early Stones records.
I agree 😡👎
Very interesting. Love your videos, keep it up!
I'm really digging the detail in your videos. Also the fact that interesting Beatles information appears to be limitless in scope.

2:12 is that Brian Wilson to the left?
Fletcher Lucas yeah
Also behind him is a Sansui Speaker (3500) which I`m still using:)
Gotta love that 1970’s extra wide neck tie.
Perry Cox bought some of the first Livingston copies at that Beatlefest.
I gotta go back to the record store now. They had like 4 yesterday and today records.
I picked this up at a thrift store today. There’s a Nancy Sinatra sticker over the Beatles one on the vinyl. On the back, it’s an RIAA 3. You mentioned 4,5 and 6
I'm looking at buying a second state because I think it's the coolest with the cover up
Although you might be tempted to peel.

My mom has this album in mint condition- she bought it when she was a kid.... what do you think it would be worth?
10,000 and up!
If an original first state - many thousands
Great episode! I I bought a bootleg of that one some years ago. White vinyl and looks nice but sounds terrible needless to say...

Bought a 2nd state Butcher today at an estate sale for $1.00 spotted Ringo`s V neck right off !! What a find !!!
Found a 3rd state Butcher about a year ago for $3.00 !! Estate sales are the best !!!

My butcher cover story: I can only wish I had one
You good go to a record fires or beatles dealers

I have a 2nd state butcher cover ex+ which I picked up at a 2nd hand store for $1. However, I didn't realize what I had to the following day !

Your Beatles videos make me so happy and I'm excited whenever one pops up in my sub box!
Got a bootleg of the butcher cover in Spain on translucent pink hazy vinyl. Sounds decent enough and only for 20 bucks!
Records & film‽‽‽ sweet
Believe i have a second state butchers cover .i can see black triangle on right side of trunk cover.
I’m getting some albums by The Beatles from my grandma who is a huge fan of The Beatles, hopefully she has this album 🤞
Great job at explaining this in detail. I'm always going through everyone's basement collection in search of the elusive "Butcher Cover".

With second state butchers, if the trunk cover shows wear, you have nothing to lose by trying to peel it.
I have mine bought in Canada i should check
Hello there i would like to know what is the lable of the beatles yesterday and today riaa number 18 ? Thank you very much !
I have a close to ment #4 butcher copy I’m from lex Ky pretty close to Tennessee and got it from a peddlers market
No mention of the fold over at the top...I’ve just laid my hands on one...brokering a deal for my friend who owns it. Hard to authenticate without a pro’s experience. It all seems correct, down to the matrix variants now.
No
What if i have the riaa 6 stamp but i cant see the triangle? Is it still a butcher?
No it's not.
I'm lucky enough to have a 2nd and a 3rd state butcher covers. Getting my hands on a 1st state would be amazing, but I do not have that much money :)
I have a VG++ / NM no. 4., Jacksonville Plant pressing,, Butcher (Uncertain). is it true they used a different glue application, not allowing to see bleed through of Ringo-V??
i have a vg+ bought in florida actually, and i dont see v neck either
Heyyy thanks for the awesome video. A friend of mine gave me the tip that I had a butcher cover. Your video answered a lot of questions. I have 1 more - mine has the pressing #3 which I see is Scranton, Pennsylvania. Where does this fall on the rare-common scale??
I have 5 second states
Man what a great history of THE BUTCHER COVER 🤪🎶🎵
Great video, keep up the great work.
What does it mean if my record has a 3 on the back
I have the same thing, let me know if you find out
3rd state perfect peel last year. With the trunk peel. Paid a grand. Recording vg.
I found a second or third state at my local antique mall, I would have bought it for the 20 bucks, but the actual record was damaged beyond repair and was pretty much flat
Great video. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thanks for another phenomenal video😎😎 I wish you had a spin-off CD channel
i think i have a Butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over it (second state). It's mono. Has a number 3 on the back right. Rainbow label on black vinyl inside. You’re the best speaker on albums . One thing you forgot to mention, the ORIGINAL butchers had TEXTURED front covers. The fakes are all flat slicks .
Tengo una copia , como puedo saber si es original
I have a number 3 on the back of mine what does this mean?
If i had a time machine me and the boys are going back to 1966 kmart to load up on these things
Great video, (and excellent setting) thanks!

I am happy with my 2014 CD version!!
Lucas Diego as you should be, cds are great. I like them just as much as vintage vinyl. one can't listen to a record in a car...
My favourite photo shoot and American lp
The album has unique mono mixes of "I'm Only Sleeping", "Doctor Robert" and "And Your Bird Can Sing". Unreleased on CD.

Superb info-video ! Greetings from Poland !
I always expect them to release a reissue every RSD, agree it's strange they haven't.
Anyone had any experience of this, or know how to positively identify it?
Where could I buy a reproduction slick?
Why doesn't this channel have 1 million subscribers?
I have what i think is a second state but i havent gotten to checking, i see a pasteover but i dont remember seeing the black on the turtleneck
I got 2 a mono second state and a 3rd state stero I got at our local store great video though!!
I own a 2nd state and will not be peeling it, since they are becoming more scarce.
I printed a 20x16. Poster and put it on my. Wall
Mine says 3 on it where yours show 5 and 6. So what does that mean?
I liked the trunk cover better so I glued it back on.
I have a Beatles Butcher Block 2nd. state still sealed I bought over 35 years ago. Anybody know what it's value?
Thanks...
probably around 5k or something idk

I didn’t get it but if you want to get your hands on it there ya go
I picked one up in the local Wimborne market a couple of years ago. Second state. Bought it along with Beatles 65. £7.00 for the pair.
Hi my name is ASD Durr Burger 😊
Recently invested in a 2nd state. Other that a hole punch in the corner, it’s in really good condition. Only complaint is it is a little yellowish - although, not surprising figuring the age of the album
Jonathan Hardy oh that's pretty cool. I have 2 regular trunk covers, one is vg and one is vg+, both are mono
Any idea what its worth.
My copy has a "3", where was that pressed?
thats what i want to know
Of the butcher cover poster from the record company
i tride the wet tishue test and now i got a eater staine on my cover now
Got the bucher sleve with different collor vynal
How i buy one in México

I HAVE A SECOND STATE. WHAT'S IT WORTH ?
I actually have 2 3rd state peels
Enjoyed it bro, always!
What are your thoughts of playing records on wet?
I love your Beatles videos
