I'll never understand why people dismiss these albums. Like it or not, these albums represent how the Beatles were heard in America back in the 60s. These were what my parents and millions of Americans were listening to and the reason why they were so popular in this country. When Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys said Rubber Soul was what influenced him to create Pet Sounds, it wasn't the U.K version he was talking about. They are historically significant and should be treated and preserved as such.
I think it's more what those albums represent. The idea that not even the biggest band in history could escape from the big music industry rearrenging and modfying their artistic vision (I know they didn't have 100% creative freedom on their UK albums from the start, but still they had some liberties in what their track listings and cover arts were). Plus it's well known the UK and European albums sounded better and the Beatles themselves establishing their own canon in the 80's. At the end of the day most fans wonder: "why would I listen to what a bunch of music hacks wanted people to hear in the 60's when I can listen to what the artists themselves mostly wanted?".
i heard this was actually incorrect. Brian stated that Nowhere Man was one of the songs that inspired him most and that track was not on the US version of the album
If they were meant to be for everyone it would be part of the studio catalog. The only time they are is when they get rereleases like this, then disappear not long after
Got this for my Christmas and I’m super excited to have this. I am UK based but have all the US albums. So I’ve heard the limitations too. Excited to hear these now. Great video. Thank you.
I was pleased to see the copy of the Canadian-only release Twist and Shout next to the turntable in the background. That was the first Beatles l.p. I ever heard and I still own an original pressing. Some of these new re-issues sound better than the originals, but we have to remember that in 1964, we were listening on audio equipment that was the equivalent of stones knives and bear skins ! I enjoy your comments and presentations. Happy Holidays to you !
A fantastic review, thank you! I still haven't even completed their UK catalog in my library, so I gotta do that, but I'll have to grab these, too! These will go away, but there's no way the UK catalog will.
These 1964 USA Capitol Mono reissues are great. The reissue's packaging & sound quality are a pleasant surprise. The Capitol albums are fun, collectable and on Meet the Beatles, The Beatles' Second Album, & Beatles' 65 have more hit singles included than their UK counterparts!
They sound good. I have the uks and these maybe aren’t as audiophile but sound good in another way. The song line ups are awesome. The selves and jacket are amazing
Amazon has the box set at 18% off right now which brings it down to a more reasonable price. I’m torn still as I really don’t want a new copy of the Beatles story.
If it came with even a booklet it would be more worth it, but yeah if you don’t need The Beatles story, it’s not worth it, just takes up more space on the shelf
Either you want to look at spines on your shelf or a box. I like box sets and was able to get mine pretty close to what the individual albums cost, but there’s no real reason to unless you want the box.
Great video. Wanted to say even though we Beatles fans know about the differences between the US and British LPs, the Beatles 2nd album is another case where I think the flow of the album was really good in that it rocked!! And watching this video I reminded what a mistake it was for me to sell all my vinyl years ago when CDs arrived. ( still have my beat up Beatles albums though )
This is just dang funny. First we had to have the English versions, now we have to go back to buy the ones we grew up with. Crazy Beatle fans……and I am one.
I'm an OG, January '64, Beatles fan. I've purchased all of these recordings many times over in various formats. I'm planning to get these individually (not the box) when I find a good discount.
Like you I was against the box set mostly for the ridiculous cost. But Amazon gave a steep discount right before Christmas so I pulled the trigger. One thing not usually mentioned is the required mono cartridge for the original mono. I picked up an original US Meet the Beatles in great condition on Black Friday during Record Store Day. Although it sounds good I can't wait to hear the new version which is pressed for stereo cartridges and for the restored sonics. I already have the British mono box and don't expect them to rival those but I am encouraged by the Meet the Beatles mono I picked up on Black Friday which to me sounds great even with my stereo cartridge.
I had the Beatles on vinyl in the 60's, on 8-track at the end of the 60's, on cassette in the early and mid 70's, on CD's in the 80's and 90's and downloaded from the internet in the 20 aught's! I'm not putting any more money into Paul's pockets (estimated worth 1.2 billion) or Ringo's bank account (estimated worth $350-400 million). Nobody needs more Beatle records.
This release set is awesome b/c: 1.) Historically significant & 2.) Clean Beatles vinyl in the marketplace to last another 50 yrs. I collect Beatles on best sounding pressings, so the 'Dexterized' presentation is not for me, but as a Beatles fan and a vinyl collector I am happy to see them for current and future generations!
Always wanted an original Meet the Beatles. When I heard these were going to be released (and were from the original tapes) I decided to pick up the Meet the Beatles reissue. It sounds fantastic and now I can hear I Want to Hold Your Hand on an album and not just the 45.
Thank you for the reviews, I have been watching you and, you do a good job. While I am a Beatles fan and own lots of copies of this collection: the Beatles are getting to the bottom of the barrel of what is left to be new and exciting. The originals are the way that it was presented and should remain that way. Messing with the EQ separation and instrumentation is a way for the same songs to sound a little bit different in order to create some hype in reality is just a way for Apple to generate some CASH.
Like you, I wasn't excited about these when they were announced. I have all the original mono and stereo US albums. These were how I first heard the Beatles. In 1964, I knew nothing about the UK versions. I didn't care that the singles were on the LPs, in fact, that was a plus. Over the years, when I did learn about the UK versions, especially in the CD era, they became my preferred versions. I rarely listened to the US versions after that. I had no intention in buying these but then I began to read the positive reviews of them and ended up buying them. I agree with all your comments about the looks of them, but as you note, the sound is the big attraction; they sound great. It's too bad that some of the mono mixes are simply stereo fold-downs (especially Meet the Beatles), but to retain their authenticity, it is what we have here. It is nice to listen to these without the snap, crackle and pop of my original copies. Great video review.
I enjoy these records too some of the track listing is brilliant, I think the same situation is going to happen like how the 2014 reissues sat and these albums as well.. but only time can tell
Hi, someone from Europe would experience freshly printed in a correct price package. It cost too much to have these vinyls in pristine conditions from across the Ocean.
Wow another reissue and rehash of 60 year old albums of the Beatles. Gee, I have everything they did on CDs so I don’t need anything more. But if your old copies are worn out, go right ahead and renew your collection. Thanks for the honest review!
I get the whole its a British band so stick with the UK albums thing. Imagine my surprise when I encountered the Capitol release of Help! for North America.
Did you ever compare to the 2004 issued "The Capitol Versions" box sets? Those were also mastered from the original Capitol master tapes and sound very nice, indeed. I know you're not a digital guy but... figured I'd ask! (And no, this is not comparing the more recent CDs which were sourced from the more recent 2009 digital reissue project.)
The original covers were made of cheap cardboard with paper glued onto the front and back. The new covers are printed directly onto higher-quality white cardboard stock. Also, the labels on the new ones have a circle of white text just inside the rainbow outer ring. That's how you can tell them apart.
I just received these for Xmas - the Parlophone pressings were MUCH better albums, generally speaking, but if you have to go with the (ill-conceived) U.S. versions these re-releases do sound terrific.
Good review again but to me and most of the British lot they are rubbish and going against what The Beatles wanted ,the covers look cheap the tracks are all mixed up they are terrible and a joke ,to be honest its a cash grab from apple no one really wants this release we want apple to get back to the boxset releases again starting with Rubber soul not all this shite, always remember the Americans went against what The Beatles wanted ,imagine doing it today with other artists mixing all their stuff up merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

I agree! The American albums are my favourites, except Revolver of course.

The Beatles in their purest period. Pure joy. Pure love. Pure energy.

@ Amazon. I would check often because it seems the discount likes to fluctuate daily. The discount wasn’t as good the last time I went to look at it

As much as everyone loves these this is “distraction “ No RuberSoul Super Deluxe box set for us!
The 60th anniversary for Rubber Soul is still in the future at the time of this writing… Late 2025, just in time for next year’s Christmas season.
@ its only 2-3 years late along with NO John Lennon live in New York City some time in New York City box set
GOD bless you VR 🎄

COME TO FATHER by APOLOGETIX a great Beatles parody
The us vs U.K. discussion for The Rolling Stones is still conversation

I bought the box set for $244 from Amazon. FYI If your records are skipping, increase the weight on your arm. They were cut hot.
I enjoy these records too some of the track listing is brilliant, I think the same situation is going to happen like how the 2014 reissues sat and these albums as well.. but only time can tell
5:23 what is that bump at the top of that label on the 2024 pressing? I mean it effects nothing but it aint perfectly round

They should have reissued the Beatles '65 album using the Butcher Boys cover photo
That's from Yesterday and Today I think. Unless you're talking about another one I don't know of.
@@akadventuring no you'd be correct in saying that it was "Yesterday and Today"

50% off at UDiscover
I'll stick with the CD copies i got. Plus these are too expensive, also don't own a record player.
