The Karate Kid is, with Cobra Kai, one of those rare franchises that managed to keep up the original spirit and make it work, while honoring the nostalgia.
It’s amazing how good old IPs can be when the writers love the IPs and respect their fans. Unfortunately most modern writers seem to hate the IPs and the fans. Cobra Kai does it all the right way, I’m so glad this show exists.
This is an example of a show done right. A show where the writers actually respect their fans and love the source material. One of the rare gems in a sea of garbage these days

If we're talking by All Valley Tournament Rules which they agreed to fight each other by then Daniel actually won because it's illegal to strike the Head with you Arm like Johnny did while Daniel kicked him in the Head which is legal meaning that Daniel won the Rematch making him 2-0 against Johnny.
@@BumblebeeTuna8 Lol what are you talking about? The all valley rules states that you can punch someone in the face. In the Johnny vs Vidal fight you can see him punch Vidal in the face after taking him down which was scored a point
@@BumblebeeTuna8 A rule like that would make zero sense because kicks are a lot more powerful than punches because legs have much greater muscle strength. So both should either be legal or illegal.

Just in case anyone missed it: after their last attack, both stand up and want to see the results. No provoking, chitchat or arguments here. This scene is also very good because it shows that they actually have much respect for one-another, after what happened in the first 3 seasons.

Makes sense why Chozen originally didn't want to share the secrets of Mayagi-Do. It was a last resort, life-or-death tactic that Daniel ended up using in a mock tournament.
@@elipav484 silva is by far the strongest fighter so far , if you look back at the fight w miyagi from the third movie he holds his own way against miyagi way longer then kreese , I think he’s the best fighter in the series .
Both have a lot to learn. They aren't where their masters were at their age. Johnny beating a old Kreese doesn't count Danial may be able to beat a old Miyagi too.
There are a lot of moves students do in reference to the senseis. In the same fight Robby used that distracting move of one arm, Silver used when he met Robby for the first time when he was training Kenny. Sam using the same pose Chosen used when beating the senseis of cobra kai, however it never shows Chozen teaching that to Sam. And a lot more so.
So Hawk defeated Robbie even though Robby is stronger than him and can defeat him. Hawk used this move as a smart move in his most difficult moments, so he defeated Robby. If it weren't for that, Robby would have been the winner. It is known that Robby is stronger than Hawk if it weren't for Hawk's intelligence.
Not only did Johnny counter the pressure-point attack, but his second point is a mirror of the second point Daniel scored on him decades ago. Using the legs to take his opponent to the ground before striking. A beautiful call-back.
It works even better in this context instead of just a pointless callback for fanservice's sake. Johnny was down a usable arm, he could only perform a takedown with the right side of his upper body so he used his legs instead. I'm very impressed, both at the choreography and respect of the source material without resulting to cheap fan pandering that has no substance. There's an actual reason Johnny would runback the technique that worked at the All-Valley.
Its also the same move that Mr Miyagi did on Daniel when he was teaching him how to strike before the tournament - When Daniel got cocky and started doing the Ali Shuffle, Mr Miyagi did that very same takedown. I think that's where Daniel learnt it.
The fact that Johnny can still keep up, after a life of drinking and bad food, while Daniel has better training, kept in better shape, and eats better is amazing.
Easy answer would be genetics. At the same age when they were in high school, he was jacked compared to Daniel. You could argue he’s a better natural athlete.
@@Rambo20244 he wasn’t…they established that in season 1. He is so rusty when he fights Kyler and the bullies outside of the convenience store (remember how he grabs his groin as if he hadn’t thrown a kick in ages), and after that scene he blows off Miguel stating that he quit karate a long time ago.
One thing that doesn't get talked about here is how Miguel and Sam announced the points reflected both of them veering away from their previous senseis and towards new styles. Miguel was the observer on Johnny's side of the mat but firmly announced Daniel's point, to Johnny looking at him shocked. Meanwhile Sam was on Daniel's side of the mat and firmly called Lawrence's point, to Daniel's shocked reaction from her It was a great reflection on how both teens changed recently, and both senseis felt in those moments that they were let down a bit by eachother's respective students
It actually seemed to me the way that Sam and Miguel looked at Daniel and Johnny after they got hit, that they were disappointed that their original senseis were losing points when their style was supposed to be superior...
This scene was very clever. When Daniel made that move and Johnny's arm went limb I immediately felt sorry for Johnny thinking he is going to lose but he turned it around beautifully. They're both great fighters.
@@dightonazpeitia4350 well sure, easy to toy with someone when you cheap shot kick in the face. Dazed and ears ringing. And maybe you don't want to admit that Johnny got up, TWICE, and actually caught Terry's kick WHILE getting up. So much for "a man can't stand, he can't fight".
He did have a little bit of time to recover, or maybe can just tank damage a little better than most? That said his improvised take-down more than compensated.
OK, this fight wasn't as scary as I feared and was actually close to perfectly written by having them both KO each other and ending in a draw. Very enjoyable stuff.
Reminds me of the double KO in the street fighter video games. I wonder how such a situation would be handled at a tournament? would they do an extra round of fighting or declare it a draw? I am guessing if the score was 1 to 2 they would each get a point and it would not be a tie? that is how the street fighter games work.
@@quarantinejet2312 it was 2 to 2 but if it was 1 to 2 I am guessing each fighter would gain a point and the 2 would win as it would then be 3 to 2, that is how the street fighter games handle it.
The fact that Johnny was able to counter that pressure-point technique demonstrates his defensive development and willingness to accept a style of fighting that is considered different from his. Daniel would later demonstrate this later on, at the tournament, when he instructs Hawk to put his opponent on the defensive
Mind blowing that Ralph is older than William. In the first movie, he looks much younger than William. But that goes to show you that body structure makes a difference

And Devon Lee. Lol. They really dedicated an episode to feminism and women empowerment. The season had strong points but it is the weakest of the four seasons. Easily.
I love how the fight visually shows what they lack that the other has, Johnny is too aggressive and impatient and Daniel is too passive and reactive, and that's with Daniel now knowing an offensive technique which Johnny powered through like a champ.
Daniel is still not comfortable going full offensive mode. He’s not a complete master of the technique he only spent a few days with Chozen at most. But next season I am sure he will learn the full scope of what Miyagi do can do.
@@elizabethfigueroa6159 I think now Daniel is learning offense but is still too immature. As Chozen said, "maybe he thought you were not ready or unable." Or maybe Daniel didn't do it with full force, he just used it to make Johnny numb and get the point. That's why Johnny still can use his hand again like it was nothing.
@@red23rd also true as he wasn't fighting for his life, unlike when fighting Kreese. Either way it was probably the best and most perfect way to end that fight plus let's be honest was really funny
This goes to show that Johnny's durable especially with the arm disabling technique used against him, and the music in that bit is epic! Also, the countermove he sent against Daniel is smart as he taught his students to fight one handed just in case. TBH, Johnny can improvise on the fly as much as Larusso can.
Two amazing things I saw. 1. How Daniel setup Johnny to get his first point. 2. Johnny scored point 2 after the pressure point technique by Daniel. Awesome scene.
I wonder how terry silver will react to this. I first thought chizen could easily end silver with the pressure point technique. But to come to think of it, johnny was able to counter it from Larusso. Johnny then got his ass handed to him by silver. Chozen would still have a really tough fight against Silver
I almost had a heart attack watching this scene😂. My adrenaline was beyond the clouds. From the fact its been 35 years since they stood in that same stance to face each other, (real life and on film), the call backs ,to Daniel using the technique Chozen taught him, Miguel wanting Johnny to win and Sam wanting Her Dad to win , me not wanting either one of them to lose, just so much suspense crammed all together in that one scene. Genius. 🥋
This was further proof why their fighting Styles needed to be combined in order to form a perfect balance of combat technique that Miguel and Sam both realize they needed and fully embraced for themselves, they prove to each other by simply knocking themselves out and reaching a draw that they were very much a match in every way hence why I was so glad when they finally put aside their differences and rejoin forces at the end during the all Valley tournament!💯😉👍
@@fry4guy more like they should have realized it sooner rather than during the tournament, I'm most definitely sure that if they had realized that during their rematch after reaching a draw the outcome would have been vastly different!
@@kidfury3546 technically they are not allowed to teach anymore because they lost the tournament against cobra kai, that was the deal they made with Kreese, so I'm not sure.. Johnny went after Miguel so he's definitely out. I think that in the next season Kenny is going to bully Anthony and as he seeks Daniel's help, maybe Sam will teach him the basics to defend himself, probably we'll see Anthony's redemption arc and probably Kenny's descent into cobra kai's aggressive mentality
He just learned it, not mastered it like Chozen Chozen is Grandmaster level Daniel is only Master level Cobra Kai is like a live action anime at this point
Clearly Daniel didn’t do the whole pressure point he stopped in the left arm if he truly wanted to beat Johnny he would of hit both of his arms and legs and shoulders and got the easy point but he wanted to fight clean
Johnny overcoming Daniel’s pressure point technique is such a perfect representation of the message of this show. In the original Karate Kid film, Miyagi’s philosophy and lessons were always portrayed as the morally superior and the correct way to live life, while Cobra Kai’s lessons were shown as the indisputable wrong and corrupt path to take. This was symbolized in how Daniel ultimately defeated Johnny using the Miyagi fighting style, which demonstrated that Miyagi’s outlook was the better option. But Cobra Kai is different in that despite both Johnny and Daniel having completely different outlooks on life and what’s best for their students, neither one is proven as better than the other. Despite all the fights and feuds that happen throughout this series, they both ultimately did have a positive effect on their students, all while sticking to their own beliefs. Johnny specifically, whose way of teaching could easily have been portrayed as evil and wrong, is proven to have taught his kids how to be brave, take risks, and confront their problems. So him successfully countering Daniel’s pressure point move, a move he literally learned during a spiritual journey to Japan and would have been the move that won this fight normally, just by sticking to his own fighting style proves that both of their outlooks on life and fighting are considered equal, despite how much they hate each other.

I absolutely love that they were evenly matched. I desperately wanted this fight to show that both of their style's were "worthy" - and the coolest thing is that it was Johnny that could see that and not Daniel, and the reason for that being Terry Silver tipping Daniel off-balance. They've really stayed true to Daniel's character in this season - even with all the training and life lessons he received from Mr. Myagi, deep down he's still a hot-head and the second he saw Silver that showed. He completely lost focus, threw everything he's learned out of the window and became aggressive, misusing what Chozen taught him to try to ensure things went his way and even after that when it was clear that he and Johnny were evenly matched his stubbornness meant he couldn't let go and accept they needed to work together until it was too late.
Chozen's exacts words on the Miyagi pressure point attacks were: "If an enemy INSISTS on war..." This was just sparring and there was no mal intent. Kreese had every intention to kill Daniel during their fight and it's because he had no choice but to use it that it saved him. Daniel misused it here and it's why it didn't work.
@@madpinoy5683 I agree. I think at first glance you can watch this and see Johnny's reaction of "what the hell man?" as confusion as to how Daniel did what he did, but Johnny had seen him do it to Kreese, so I think it was more of a "really? You're so desperate to prove a point you're going to do that?" - like it seemed more like disappointment than anything else from Johnny. Daniel was teaching Miyagi-Do to the kids, but he was never going to be teaching them anything like the pressure point techniques, it was obviously far too advanced and dangerous. It was at that point that Johnny realised that Daniel was fighting because of his own personal issues with Johnny and Silver that he couldn't let go of rather than thinking about what was best for the kids.
@@djmreacts5808 Chozen basically said to only use the pressure point attack if your life and/or the life of those you care about is in danger. Has anyone notice how Daniel and Johnny represent the yin Yang ☯️? Daniel in white with the black belt, and Johnny in black with the bald eagle. Symbolic of how chaos and order need each other
They were so evenly matched to where it wasn’t funny. I loved how Daniel used that pressure point Miyagi-Do technique that Chozen had taught him when Johnny started pouring on the offense which goes to show that Daniel had evolved as a much smarter fighter than ever before. The point is that both Daniel and Johnny were always equaled to each other it’s just that Miyagi-Do teaches you how to be a much more patient smarter fighter while Eagle-Fang/Cobra Kai teaches you how to be a much tougher stronger aggressive fighter. You have to realize that when they were kids, Johnny didn’t fight Daniel when he knew Miyagi-Do karate until he fought him in the All-Valley tournament so maybe that threw him off and caused him to lose but in any regard, for Daniel to have only trained a couple of months against Johnny who was much more accomplished in Cobra Kai karate from when he was a adolescent boy tells you how effective Miyagi-Do karate truly is
I wouldn't say they were always equal to each other. Johnny was always bigger, stronger, more athletic and aggressive. However, the superior training from Miyagi Do equalized them as fighters, so I agree Miyagi-Do karate is truly effective.
@@metsrus I meant once Daniel got much more familiar with Miyagi-Do karate, he and Johnny became equals in a way because even as good of a fighter as Johnny was, he wasn’t as smart or as disciplined as a fighter as Daniel was. As Mr. Miyagi once told Daniel on when Sato tried to hit him with seemingly looked like a death blow “ No matter who’s stronger, only who’s smarter “ and that’s exactly what the pressure point method was about. Miyagi-Do karate also taught you how to be stronger like Cobra Kai it’s just that being patient with smart defense was the key to making it work to perfection. So in closing…. Johnny - the better aggressive more agile fighter Daniel - the more patient smarter and more disciplined fighter Their strengths and attributes offset each other which is how they’re so equal to one another

1:59 this move is identical to what Hawk used against Robby in the All-Valley tournament in Season 4, just goes to show how the move set and skills of the sensei will be mirrored and replicated by their students, it’s a good comparison in which for Hawk he has embraced both of his identities and has finally found balance while for Johnny, he has seen the errors of his ways and the messed up wisdom and teachings Kreese has ingrained to him and then he realized his rivalry with Daniel was because of different circumstances and ideologies but in the end, they’re just opposite individuals whom are practicing different philosophies towards their martial arts and that they are both learning to respect and learn from each other.
agreed... they even teased some redemption in him as he stopped Silver from attacking Johnny more in the old dojo, he didn't go mad when Robby lost to Hawk and he even encouraged Tory to fight fair when she looked to him for guidance instead of telling her to "sweep the leg" like he done in KK1. He has PTSD and mental health issues from his childhood, his mum's death & his childhood sweethearts death and then the war and his adulthood life post Vietnam that he has never truly healed from, as he is from that generation where it isn't "manly" to seek help & therapy and men dont cry to talk about their feelings.. I hope they explore this more in S5 and in his redemption arc. He clearly cares about other broken people from disadvantaged backgrounds (ie Johnny, Robby & Tory - he even sticks up for Tory on numerous occasions like with her landlord and amanda and although he tries to mask it as wanting the best fighters in CK I think deep down he uses that as an excuse to help people like her) and he probably would be a great mentor to kids like them if he just channeled his energy better.

And thats why Miyagi didn't show Daniel the technique. The fact that Daniel used it on just a CASUAL POINT match shows Daniel's lack of maturity, as if he just wants to one up Johnny. That technique is ONLY used when youre in absolute danger and there's no rules. EDIT: OK so I didn't see what happened prior to this, just clips. So it was a pretty serious match to see who has control of the students but still, doing something like the pressure point technique is rather at least near fatal and even using something like that is quite overboard.
This was a fight for who got exclusive teaching rights, not a petty dispute. Daniel genuinely believes here that the kids are in danger from Terry if they continue learning Eagle-Fang karate. Right or wrong, his choice to use this technique shows us how scared he is and how serious he is taking this. And we know how dangerous Silver is. So, life and death, maybe not, but to Daniel it’s the kid’s safety on the line. That’s worth consideration.

I'm amazed that no one talk about it. I litterally said that the day i saw Hawk's victory.
I knew I recognized it
I recognized it too
So Hawk defeated Robbie even though Robby is stronger than him and can defeat him.
Kind of proves Johnny is able to think on his feet and adapt, while Daniel is still stuck in his ways.

One thing that doesn't get talked about here is how Miguel and Sam announced the points reflected both of them veering away from their previous senseis and towards new styles. Miguel was the observer on Johnny's side of the mat but firmly announced Daniel's point, to Johnny looking at him shocked. Meanwhile Sam was on Daniel's side of the mat and firmly called Lawrence's point, to Daniel's shocked reaction from her
It was a great reflection on how both teens changed recently, and both senseis felt in those moments that they were let down a bit by eachother's respective students

Nah Daniel needed to see how both styles were "worthy" since he didn't respect johnny style.
@@madpinoy5683 I don’t understand
@@djmreacts5808 Chozen basically said to only use the pressure point attack if your life and/or the life of those you care about is in danger. Kreese was ready to kill Daniel at the end of season 3 when they fought. Here Johnny and Daniel were just sparring so Daniel didn't need to use that technique.
Has anyone notice how Daniel and Johnny represent the yin Yang ☯️? Daniel in white with the black belt, and Johnny in black with the bald eagle. Symbolic of how chaos and order need each other
Nice comment👍
You mean their hair colors contrast their uniforms
and they philosphies are complementar, johny focus on atack and Daniel on defence, but in a fight both are necessary
And the same is true of their attitude toward their families.
You have to realize that when they were kids, Johnny didn’t fight Daniel when he knew Miyagi-Do karate until he fought him in the All-Valley tournament so maybe that threw him off and caused him to lose but in any regard, for Daniel to have only trained a couple of months against Johnny who was much more accomplished in Cobra Kai karate from when he was a adolescent boy tells you how effective Miyagi-Do karate truly is
Johnny obviously said what the hell man
Well said, well said.
Johnny - the better aggressive more agile fighter
Daniel - the more patient smarter and more disciplined fighter
Their strengths and attributes offset each other which is how they’re so equal to one another

I think we’re going to see the redemption of Kreese honestly. What happened to him at the end of the season was just uncalled for.
I think he will join Johnny
@@slim..reaper Why would Johnny let Kreese join him again after he betrayed Johnny and took over cobra kai? just doesn’t seem realistic
It wasn't uncalled for. Terry just showed Kreese what a real snake is like.
agreed... they even teased some redemption in him as he stopped Silver from attacking Johnny more in the old dojo, he didn't go mad when Robby lost to Hawk and he even encouraged Tory to fight fair when she looked to him for guidance instead of telling her to "sweep the leg" like he done in KK1.
Its possible kreese joining johnny, but johnny won't like it and won't allow it nor will Daniel, I imagine both would agree he has done more harm and especially for awakening a devil like Terry Silver.

I laughed my ass off so hard at so many scenes in this season. One being the double knock down. This has been the best season.

Pressure points technique in a points scoring match? You can see why Miyagi never taught him that.
Exactly my thought, this wasn't a life threatening situation. He is more Cobra Kai material than he wants to admit.
Yep because Miyagi knew that daniel is not wise enough to use that technique properly he's still a hot head.
@@hannahwhite367 he was also trying to show that miyagi do is better than eagle fang.
To be fair at least he didn't used the full technic and just paralyzed one arm, I think that's gonna be a problem in next seasons, Daniel is going to start abusing the new technics and eventually is going to turn Cobra Kai without knowing it
