So much I can remember here: that Tyrone Crystal advert with "Eine kleine Nachtmuzik", the muzak on the cardboard ads, even that Stewarts promotion... wonderful memories evoked, so thank you.

My God that Shellgrip ad at 2:20 scared the shite out of me when I was a kid. Had nightmares about it for years and was terrified of car journeys at night.

thanks very much for uploading, really brings me back to the vibe of mid 80s Irish TV, both North and South, especially those wobbly 7-second slides

I first became aware of Stewarts - a huge supermarket chain in Northern Ireland for decades - through the Blue Peter appeals, oddly enough; the collecting points for aluminium/cans/whatever would be at the main supermarkets so Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. in most of the UK but Stewarts in NI (and probably William Low in Scotland as well, back then).
Wm Low had already been taken over by Tesco in 1994; Stewarts was similarly acquired by Tesco in 1997. This was part of a massive expansion into both parts of Ireland by that chain, though generally it was only around 1997 that the major British supermarkets began serious operations in Northern Ireland, i.e. it was probably only around then that they thought it was safe ...

I can't imagine that de Burgh ad moving a lot of copy - just ends up seeming like random screaming.

Could I please ask where you found these? My sister was in a Christmas Stewart's ad in the early 90s and I'd love to find a copy for her.
    Thanks David

Hi David, these were captured from old VHS tapes that contained documentaries, i recorded the adverts and put them all together for this clip. I will keep an eye out for more Stewarts adverts for you.
