    Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, a soldier who was shot in the head, face stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blind on his left eye as well; survived two plane crashes; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them and still lived to old age around 80-85 ?. really an Unkillable soldier so a good title of the He served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War.efter the first WW he wrote:Frankly I had enjoyed the war

      Even better, during WWII he was captured by the Germans and put in an Italian prison. He escaped said prison multiple times, during one of which he escaped capture for 8 days. He was a 60 something old guy with one hand, one eye and no knowledge of the Italian language. Dude was a nightmare prisoner, an unkillable soldier and lived till he was 83. What a badass.

  • @sandy1653
    @sandy1653 2 года назад +16

    So the saving the day lyric is probably from the action where he won the Victoria Cross, During the Battle of the Somme he was in command of the 8th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. While the 8th Gloucesters and the rest of the 57th Brigade were fighting to hold a German counter attack at the village of La Boisselle, the commanders of the other three battalions in the Regiment were killed, so he took command of the other battalions too and they held the village. And all the while he had to act as his own runner to get orders to the battalions because he didn't have any.

    I know this is an older video but if you want as accurate to the unbelievable stats that he had here they go
    He served in 5 wars
    Survived 5 separate plane crashes
    Was shot 12 times during wars (13 if you count the time he got shot in the ass in India for being rude to a servant)
    Survived an artillery barrage that cost him his left arm
    Was thrown off a train in his 50s/60s chased it down and killed the two men attacking it who threw him off (keep in mind this wouldn’t be expected of a healthy 50/60 year old let alone one with extensive leg and hip damage, and a missing arm)
    Survived in three different POW camps
    One of the aforementioned shots he took was from close range behind him and blew off the back of his skull (if memory serves me right he was more pissed that he couldn’t style his hair the way he usually liked more than he was about having his brains go everywhere)
    Another one of the aforementioned shots he took was to the groin (he’d later go on to father two children)
    Told Mao (to his face) that he “hates commies” and wished that he could kill him (and survived that)
    And finally to top off this irony after turning in his retirement papers, all he had to do was walk down a flight of stairs and he’d no longer be a soldier; so he ended up falling down every stair from the top to the bottom broke his back, his pelvis, and I believed fractured a leg (he was well into his 60s at this point)
    He then went on to live to see colored tv and died peacefully in his bed about 20 years after that.
    Each and every single one of the points could be delved into so much further, my personal favorite is about his eye, you see most things have him being shot twice during that specific battle and that one cause him to lose his eye and the other caused him to lose part of his ear (which he’d later have shot off completely), which while technically correct it isn’t completely accurate, you see he was actually shot three times. It just so happens one of those was a ricochet, this ricochet sliced open his eye but he could still see through it for the most part…until three minutes later where he got it shot out completely.
    Absolute mad lad.

    • @firesturmgaming
      @firesturmgaming Год назад +4

      You forgot to mention he later reboarded said train.
      And the fact he escaped from one of the POW camps and managed to escape for 8 days in the Italian countryside dressed as an Italian peasant with no knowledge of Italian and all his injuries which made him stick out like a sore thumb.
      He also got attacked by Stukas while escaping Poland and escaped Romania a few days before it's pro-Allies leader got killed. He's not only unkillable, he's luckier than a 10 luck Fallout run.

    While it has been pointed out the song itself is a bit tongue in cheek, in many ways his life is more remarkable.
    He was born to Irish parents living in Belgium (although there is a theory he may be the illegitimate son of the Belgian King)
    He studied at Oxford and signed up for the British Army and served in a number of conflicts including the Boer War and both World Wars.
    On top of being shot in the eye, through his skull, hip, leg, ankle and ear. In WW1 alone he was injured severely 8 times and they were mentioned in dispatches 6 times.
    In the video it showed his arm was amputated, what it didn't mention was that once when a doctor refused to amputate his fingers, he simply ripped them off.
    He was shot down in a plane twice.
    He made 5 attempts to escape from a POW camp, including seven months tunnelling. Once he managed to evade capture for eight days pretending to be an Italian Peasant, despite the fact he couldn't speak Italian, had an eyepatch a missing arm, multiple injuries and scars .. all of which would make him stand out like a sore thumb.... he was 61 at the time.

    • @thepapakeeganshow6440

    Funny thing about the eye-patch, he was shipped back to London to be treated, he was ordered to get a glass eye because the brass thought it would look bad with a one-eyed soldier on the lines so he went and got the eye, put it in and in the ride to the ships it annoyed him so much he pulled it back out and threw it out, then told the driver to stop at a costume shop where he got an eye-patch instead.
    Later when he was told he could quit the military, all he had to do was walk down the steps and out the building he instead flung himself down the stairs breaking his back and hip in the process.
    Oh yeah after the war he was an attache to china, and he didn't mince words with Mao Zedong, he told him to his face "I don't like you" and interrupted him at a propaganda dinner to tell him what he thought about his leadership. The guy also while being knighted interrupted the king of England to correct him when he claimed that De Wiart was an English warrior, he was in fact Belgian.

    This video, as others have pointed out, has strong undercurrents critiquing "historical" computer game shooter, the character (historically) is unkillable, in the video he persistently respawns while a special nurse makes him heal, he goes up ranks each respawn, he uses a variety of weapons despite historical inaccuracies. Sabaton is utilising a genuine unkillable military figure to caricature the lazy design of supposedly historical first person shooter war games, at least in my estimation.
