And Salty's crash does raise so much questions, like do the engines need oxygen to survive?, does that mean that the ghost engine that fell off the old iron bridge in Duncan gets spooked is still alive?
@brendanhanley2741 that's actually a terrifying thought, just sitting at the bottom of a lake or river, rusting away with no one to put you out of your misery
I mean…Duke survived 20 years or so buried alive. I think the engines don’t need oxygen, but rusting and corroding at the bottom of the sea will certainly kill them eventually.

There's actually something incredibly heartwarming about Skarloey taking a crash to protect Rheneas. None of the other engines go out of their way to protect another like this, and it's a really important element of his character. It's wild how despite how often post-classic seasons got Skarloey totally wrong, they did give him a truly standout moment like this and it's just another reason why he's my favorite engine.

So fun fact, "Accidents will Happen" is how I discovered the Classic Series. As a child of the mid-2000s I was born at the worst time for Thomas. Hit acquired the rights several months before I was born, and I was aging out of Thomas by the time Matel was trying to revitalize the franchise with Brenner. My only exposure to Classic Thomas was a few DVDs and one of them contained the "Accidents will Happen" music video. I loved that video, and would often try reenact it as a little kid. During one of these reenactments I got into an agreement with my dad about whether the video showed actual crashs from the show, or just B-roll made specifically for the song. He said B-roll, I said song. So I bet him that I could find all the clips from "Accidents will Happen" (as well as the Hit song "Surprises") in actual episodes. This got preschool and early-elementary me to search through dozens of old DVDs cataloged on Netflix and Amazon prime to find these scenes, which is how I discovered Classic Thomas. I actually managed to find all but one ("Bulstrode") with my dad's help, before "Grandpuff" sort-of scared me away from Classic Thomas.
In my headcannon, the actual crash that Lady had which put her out of service for years was this: Diesel 10 one day threatened to destroy her, Lady and Burnett Stone steamed away as fast as they could! At some point during the escape, Lady made it to the magic buffers, but Diesel 10 made her go so fast that she shot straight out of the magic buffers, completely missed the tracks and went tumbling down muffle mountain! Burnett Stone jumped clear though, don't worry about that younger kids!
I am autistic and this show became my special interest this April so it makes me happy to see that they are so many channels that still post about this show. And I find it impressive how much effort you put into your videos. You have my respect for going through the entire franchise again to make this video.
Something I notice from watching this video is that, in the Hit era, if the episode has Thomas' name in the title, it's bound to show him doing something stupid and crashing. Great work Tug! I loved being able to see just how many crashes have occurred by character.
Tug, I’m glad you released this video this year. There’s a video from 2014 called “30 Years of Thomas Crashes” by someone named Tug97two, which makes my dumbass cackle like a hyena no matter how many times I’ve watched it. You posting this just reminds me that it’s been a whole 10 years since then and I’ll admit, I’ve sort’ve been keeping my fingers crossed that that video gets something of an update.
Coming up as a child watching Thomas, whenever i got a brand new tape, my first thought was usually "I wonder how many crashes are in these episodes..." The crashes is what makes Thomas pretty iconic, as it is...
Not only is Thomas the most accident prone but he's also the reason for so many other accidents in this list. If you had included the ones where he was the cause but not directly involved the number I think would've easily passed 100. He's touted as a Really Useful engine but maybe there was a reason to why he was kept as a station pilot for so long.
Crashes were and will always be one of the most memorable things about Thomas and Friends. It was so exciting to see things getting smashed and broken apart!!!
Honestly I'm surprised at how low some of the older engines are. Daisy got off scott free until the CGI era, Edward and Toby being as low as they were for their ages, James not even making the top 3, but the biggest surprise for me has to be Diesel not even crossing the 20 mark. Oh and every Skarloey line engine not named Skarloey was a shock too. I remember everyone spectacularly accident prone on that lane. Maybe it's just that one monstrous crash Peter Sam took always being loud in my brain that made me think that, which by the way is my pick for best crash in the franchise.
Percy's in Percy's chocolate crunch for the classic era. Henry's in big strong Henry for the hit era. James' in James to the rescue for the nitrogen era. James' in Philip to the rescue for the Brenner era. All of Percy's crashes in bwba for that era.
Actually imagine trying to explain it to the guys that gotta fix it, especially to guys that are like “new” to the island XD “So uh this green tank engine came zooming out of control down the hill that apparently had oil spills on it and he crashed right through our factory, getting completely covered in chocolate and may had killed some workers in the progress.” Workers:….wha-
@emersoninfinitystone5785 As Duck in NWR Adventure's once put it: "If it were a common occurrence, the railway would've shut down a long time ago. And goodness knows where we we'd end up!!"
My question is, how many crashes involved the Troublesome Trucks? Because seriously, why does Sir Topham Hatt continue to invest in trucks that purposely cause accidents on his railway?
It’s down to their construction. Two-axle wagons with somewhat loose chains and generally cheap bodywork and effectively no brakes, are just going to be more trouble to work with than wagons with bogies, air-brakes, and sturdier metal bodies. This holds true for wagons in real life. I mean, it’s mainly the brakes and couplings, but the cheap construction doesn’t help either.
But also thinking about it cheese the trucks are suicidal they're more likely to get destroyed in a crash then the engine in fact some of the been shown to have canonically died
My headcannon is faceless trucks are too expensive for sir topham Hatt to replace all of the troublesome ones and troublesome trucks are dirt cheap so sir topham Hatt just buys them
Also two missed diesel crashes both in water don't know if I'd conifer them crashes but they were from wild water rescue and a most singular engine both of which weren't included
I like how when Tug says "Thomas and the Big Bang" you hear the famous words of Sheldon Cooper,'Bazinga', in the background. Edit: Also found it as the noise for Thomas' whistle in the Sir Handel section.
Let's just take a moment to give some appreciation to tug for sitting through ~35 hours of Thomas content to make this video (not counting the amount of time spent making the script)
…T-There’s no way IT JUST LOOK LIKE TOBY JUST PLACED THERE BY SOME UNKNOWN DEITY AND LEFT HIM THERE?!? I really have no idea how many Blunts Miller Smoked when being the writer for that era💀
I know one rare scene when a loco pushes a train infront of itself, though it is done because of a crash. In "Thomas and The Breakdown Train" Thomas pushes the breakdown train to where James crashed, and also pushes som trucks without damaging them, but their is also a slightly crash most for the visual when Thomas bumps a truck into a one hangin in the breakdown train.
24:1238:1639:2243:38 Thank you for that little reference/gag! XD And thanks for putting in all this effort. You’re a real one, Tug. One thing though, I think every time you say “career” in this video, you mean “careen.” Just an observation.
If you are going to work as a driver, a fireman or a guard on the Island of Sodor, make sure you get life insurance before the first day of your job, why? Because accidents and crashes ALWAYS happen on the Island, especially on the North Western Railway!
1:28:43 What really happened in "Thomas Comes to Breakfast" was a careless cleaner fiddled with his controls. Thomas didn't know this and he thought he was moving by himself. I think there should've been a moment during the conversation between Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt that went like this. Sir Topham Hatt: "However, the cleaner confessed that he was being careless and will dealt with immediately, so this was is no way your fault." Thomas: "Thank you, Sir." Narrator: "Replyed Thomas. But he was still upset about the trouble he caused."
I think the implication with the Rosie crashes was that they were her fault for trying to pull the train in the opposite direction as Emily. Even though only one of them snapped at the docks they probably weakened most of them.
As no one has seemed to notice yet, I'm just going to keep pretending I didn't miss Skarloey demolishing trucks in Season 9's Rheneas & the Dinosaur.. 🙃

Why did Grandpuff scare you?
Smudger's "death"
Insurance on the Island of Sodor must cost an absolute fortune.
I doubt they even have insurance since their signals are more for show than for actually controlling train movements.

The crashes in Thomas were just one of the many things I loved about Thomas, I loved how violent and epic they were.
1:28:01 Why am I not surprised? It's honestly ironic that the Number 1 engine on Sodor, is the one engine involved in the most accidents.
In my headcannon, the actual crash that Lady had which put her out of service for years was this:
Diesel 10 one day threatened to destroy her, Lady and Burnett Stone steamed away as fast as they could! At some point during the escape, Lady made it to the magic buffers, but Diesel 10 made her go so fast that she shot straight out of the magic buffers, completely missed the tracks and went tumbling down muffle mountain! Burnett Stone jumped clear though, don't worry about that younger kids!
Crashes! Destruction! Pain and suffering! Just what I need on my 31st birthday. I do enjoy a bit of chaos, so I appreciate you thinking of me, Nic 🤣
Happy birthday Kee.
Happy Birthday

And I find it impressive how much effort you put into your videos. You have my respect for going through the entire franchise again to make this video.
Sodor has gotta be one of the most unsafe railroads in the world
They call it a railway over there.
Penn central?
I guess in the Thomas universe people are used to engine crashes not just on Sodor, but the entire world.
If Thomas was aimed at older audiences, I can guarantee that some of these crashes would involve some people dying or being seriously injured.
@@joshuaW5621 take it up with my assistant
2:07 I bet 20 push ups James is going to crash the most
And he got 4th time to get down
*START EXERCISIN BOI*
He wasn’t even in top 3
Get to it
Topham disirves a second Father's Day for even keeping Thomas around after the 5th crash 🚂
I love how whenever you cut to footage of episodes, you alternate between the UK and US dubs, appealing to all viewers
I really hate how they gave Stanley a movie but then in the show they did nothing with him he was just a background engine damn you hit.
Maybe it's just that one monstrous crash Peter Sam took always being loud in my brain that made me think that, which by the way is my pick for best crash in the franchise.
the hit era REALLY liked putting the newcomers in crashes in their first appearances
Percy's in Percy's chocolate crunch for the classic era.
Henry's in big strong Henry for the hit era.
James' in James to the rescue for the nitrogen era.
James' in Philip to the rescue for the Brenner era.
All of Percy's crashes in bwba for that era.
I'm surprised Unlucky Tug doesn't get mad due to fact he's mentioning crashes from some pretty bad episodes.
Hello
if you hadnt notice he called james the red rockets thats pretty damn sus
He's probably saving that anger for his retrospectives of their seasons.
Just wait until Thomas forgets to use his hydration gun when he runs out of water in the desert in AEG
17:08, you can hear hints of it here XD
So many crashes...you'd think safety would be a bigger priority on Sodor.
What I noticed is a big snowbal ran into Emily snd she was flung off the track but when a similar sized one ran into Percy he was fine
I'd Like To Know How Much The Railway Had To Pay For All Of This
Actually imagine trying to explain it to the guys that gotta fix it, especially to guys that are like “new” to the island XD
“So uh this green tank engine came zooming out of control down the hill that apparently had oil spills on it and he crashed right through our factory, getting completely covered in chocolate and may had killed some workers in the progress.”
Workers:….wha-
No wonder The Fat Controller is always cross after a crash
They'd of gone bankrupt long ago by this point.
@emersoninfinitystone5785 As Duck in NWR Adventure's once put it:
"If it were a common occurrence, the railway would've shut down a long time ago. And goodness knows where we we'd end up!!"
@@robrice7246 In a railway museum most likely.
My question is, how many crashes involved the Troublesome Trucks?
Because seriously, why does Sir Topham Hatt continue to invest in trucks that purposely cause accidents on his railway?
It seems that the Trucks in this universe are, in general, short-sighted troublemakers.
My headcannon is faceless trucks are too expensive for sir topham Hatt to replace all of the troublesome ones and troublesome trucks are dirt cheap so sir topham Hatt just buys them
46:33 that cry for help is so genuine
13:36 - 13:37 gotta love that Neville redesign
The crashes really are what made this show so special I'll always love this franchise.
Also two missed diesel crashes both in water don't know if I'd conifer them crashes but they were from wild water rescue and a most singular engine both of which weren't included
Okay I think Wild Water Rescue had no derailments or damage but i think diesel mightve derailed in a most singular engine.
I like how when Tug says "Thomas and the Big Bang" you hear the famous words of Sheldon Cooper,'Bazinga', in the background.
Edit: Also found it as the noise for Thomas' whistle in the Sir Handel section.
5:41 Emily sinking was amazing.

The people of Sodor gotta have like the best insurance out there

25:15 When I first saw that crash I thought my boy Salty actually died
Thanks God he didn’t actually die he’s my favorite character

Crashes were a the reason why I liked Thomas in the first place.
Thomas having that many accidents makes Sir Topham hats anger in lost treasure more justified. He’s had enough of him messing up
And he also has to pay to have him fixed too.
@@anchorsaway9500I've always thought it was his boiling point to finally get the chance to put his foot down on Thomas' shenanigans.

Sir Topham Hatt: "However, the cleaner confessed that he was being careless and will dealt with immediately, so this was is no way your fault."
Thomas: "Thank you, Sir."
Narrator: "Replyed Thomas. But he was still upset about the trouble he caused."

23:23 Salty crashed in Away from the Sea when he bumped into some trucks at the Docks and into oil drums at the Dieselworks
"That could've been a little smoother" ☝️🤓 I love snow engine.
How did Toad turn around??? 😂
I think the implication with the Rosie crashes was that they were her fault for trying to pull the train in the opposite direction as Emily. Even though only one of them snapped at the docks they probably weakened most of them.
