    Hello, friends! If you enjoyed the video and wanted to support my channel, I've just started a "Buy me a Coffee" (in my case it would be tea) page which I'll link here: buymeacoffee.com/shawnaexplores but please don't feel any pressure to, the fact you're here and watching already means so much to me ❤

    This is a lovely video and very timely, as tonight I board a plane from Australia to Edinburgh. On my first day there, I plan to walk to the Meadows and explore. Your friend Tasha seems lovely and so stylish!

      When at the Meadows, consider going to Victor Hugo's (26 Melville Terrace) for lunch. Also consider going to the far end of the Meadows to Bruntsfield, where there are independent shops, a great magazine shop and nice eats (Honeycomb & Co. at Merchiston Place; great fish & chips across the street from it at Saltwater). There is more of the same if you carry on along the road down into Morningside. The residential parts of these neighbourhoods are also fabulous (i.e. $$$, particularly The Grange).
      For an evening out, consider dinner at The Ghurka Restaurant (not to be confused with Ghurka Café). It offers Nepalese/Indian cuisine). Then stroll across the street and go a couple hundred meters up Newbattle Terrace to the Dominion, a fabulous privately owned multi-screen cinema. There are numerous buses that will get you to this neighbourhood from the city centre (i.e., Princes Street) including #16, #11 and #5. However, I suggest you walk via the Meadows. Bruntsfield is approx. 25 mins. from the Royal Mile (St. Giles Cathedral) and 15 mins. from Victor Hugo.
      A fabulous eatery is David Baan on St. Mary's Street on St. Mary's Street, approx. half way down the Royal Mile. It is vegetarian, though hopefully that won't put you off as it is tremendous. A minute's walk from there at #2 Jeffrey Street is Corniche, a great award-winning shop for designer clothing (Vivienne Westwood, Yamamoto, etc.). No glitz or glam, just one of the most successful and enduring shops in the UK.
      On the New Town side there is the village of Stockbridge. If you like art, start at the Gallery of Modern Art (aka Modern One, and Modern Two), then go out back of Modern One and take the steps down to the Water of Leith. Go LEFT and stroll along to Dean Village, then to Stockbridge (great shops and eats both sides of the bridge) before carrying on (steps by the clock towered pizza restaurant) to Stockbridge Colonies and then the Royal Botanic Gardens. From there you can walk back up into the city via the route that opens Shawna's video, including Broughton Street. All wonderful stuff.
      If you are purchasing food to take back to your accommodation, there is a Marks & Spencer on Princes Street with a food hall in its lower level. In Morningside there are Waitrose and Marks & Spencer Foods, both of which are great.
      Enjoy your Edinburgh visit. It is a fabulous city that gets much, much better once you get into some of the residential areas.

    • @ShawnaExplores
      @ShawnaExplores  Час назад

      Thank you!! That’s a tough question 😅 Depending where you’re travelling from, I wouldn’t say it’s winter jacket season in Edinburgh yet but it isn’t warm either.. I’d recommend layers if possible and a semi-warm jacket (sorry that’s so vague!) 🙈

    I rarely get lost on your walks, having lived and worked in Edinburgh for 40+ years, but what is the grassy location at 5:40? There used to be a cafe/bookshop in the Quartermile, IIRC Mirrors, where you could buy coffee/lunch and have a read at the same time. Sadly closed, but would have been just your scene.

      Thanks so much for watching and joining us virtually 😊 It’s St Andrews Square but I agree, it does look different from that angle! I fondly remember that cafe, I would visit in my early years of university and it was sooo lovely, really sad it closed 😭

      @@ShawnaExplores I also fondly remember that bookshop/cafe as they used to sell some great macarons. I think it was called Looking Glass Books.
