For those with an iPhone 6 Plus I can see the Air 2 being a much more attractive buy. The Mini is too close to make me feel at all compelled to grab it if I'm already using the 6 Plus

LOL just kidding. Naw, if you like the mini, then you like the mini. Personally it's not my cup of tea since, in my opinion, the 6 Plus is basically an "iPad Nano", but to each their own, right?

+theforcewithin true. I mean it's all personal preference, really, isn't it? To me the iPad Air 2 is by no means unwieldy so I don't mind it. For some it might be different. However I do use the 6 Plus, which, in my opinion, is basically an iPad Nano 😂 Which is why I opted for the larger screen
Just got my LTE iPad mini 4. The added gig of ram making this A8 have 2 gigs of ram and the 100MHz bump in clock speed have really made the iPad mini 4 a true contender....the new laminated display is gorgeous, and I love the split screen and picture in picture, you can play a game while watching a movie with no noticeable drop in performance, and while under normal usage the tablet is only using 400MB of ram leaving you with 16000 odd MB of ram to have free to you, and to me the mini's 7.9 inch screen is perfect for me and the device is so much more portable, so it was a no brainer on which model to get, white and silver baby!!
I have Ipad 2 so I'm planning on upgrading. I usually use it for Facebook, Movies and mainly RUclips. Is it good at movies or maybe be some gaming?

Hey Karl, great video. I picked up a 16 GB iPad Mini 4 today. I went for the mini as I wasn't looking for a huge tablet, but more a product between my iPhone 6 and Macbook pro retina 13" as far as doing tasks such as readying. I find it works well for video as well. One thing I noticed right away is that mini feels good in the hand it's small enough that it can be held with one hand without feeling stressed or feeling like it's going to fall.
Price was a consideration for me as I didn't want to over pay for what I needed. I have 3 ios devices my iphone 6 mainly used as a phone, an ipod touch 6 dedicated to a portable media player that can dock to my stereo, and now the ipad as a solution for wanting a slightly larger unit without always needing the laptop. I can tell you, after trying this ipad mini in bed to look at content, i'm glad i didn't go bigger it was hard to get used to over the iphone or ipod, but in the end i think it was the best choice.

you got the time differences extremely wrong dude. Your content is great, but it was more like 1 to 2 seconds for the difference. That time is not a slight boost, it is pretty big. The tri core processor in the ipad air 2 makes a huge difference in multitasking and running more than one app at once. Also it helps alot with gpu performance. The geek bench scores showed a big bump. I would use some kind of graphics test app on them and put a new video out to show more accurate results.

I had the Air 2 and was a very good tablet. I bought the Mini 4 to see myself both, side by side. The Air 2 is slightly faster.
I choose the Mini 4 because the videos looks slightly better. When you see something moving faster in the Air 2 looks blurry, in the Mini 4 you don't see that. This happens for the the higher PPI in the Mini 4.
I had Air 2, but now I have the Mini 4 and I like the Mini 4 more. It's sad Apple don't put the same processor in both.

I've been subscribed to you for a little now, and was doing some research on iPads and saw this. You've progressed a lot. But great vids!
I like the mini 4 better for many reasons. Gaming is a lot easier on the mini because of the smaller screen, the air 2 is too Bing and is hard to reach the controls especially if you have smaller hands. The mini 4 is also easier because it is significantly lighter and after hours of play you will appreciate its lightness. The mini 4 is also easier on the eyes when laying down in bed, the air 2 screen is too large for up close range. Therefore for entertainment and casual use I recommend the mini. For productivity use I recommend the bigger screen like the IPad pro, laptop, or even better the surface pro 4 since you can natively install and run professional applications.

I like the smaller size for traveling and My wife the smaller size fits in her purse. Now that I've had the mini 4 for 5 days and put IOS 9 on my wife's mini 2 I do notice the upgraded speed on the 4 though I must say my wife is more than happy with the 2. battery life is what I expected on the 4 and surprised that most of the IOS 9 features work on the 2 as well. The added resolution on the 4 is nice on the eyes for reading and sound is great. That's my first impressions by the way the 2 is a 32 gig the 4 is 64 I think really the minimum to use
Small tablets like the iPad Mini are becoming obsolete. Phones are becoming larger and larger so what's the point. Large tablets are still the best for portable media consumption and laptops and computers are still the best for getting work done.

I picked up the iPad mini 4. It feels more portable and more like a book. I originally wanted something to lug around as an ereader and this iPad is that and so much more.
iPad Air 2 for me....just feel like as newer and newer iOS updates come online the inevitable slow down will be less noticeable on the Air 2 than the Mini 4.
liking that apple is finally bumping specs up in ipad mini but i like my tablets bigger so ill stick with the regular sized ipads.

Watching this on my iPad mini 4 I got a week before Christmas and it's really good for its price (at target it cost $350.99 with tax all in total ) I love it so much I would recommend it
Cool, others reviewers neglect to show a decent Side-by-side comparison.
The only difference between the chip in the air 2 and mini 4 is that the air 2 one is triple core whereas the mini 4 one is dual core. That and the a8x features a metal heat spreader and externally stacked RAM with a chrome look. A8 in the mini 4 just looks standard.

Larger iPad would only make sense to me if I did a lot of long distance travelling and wanted to watch films to kill time. Mini is more portable, I use it a lot for tennis coaching video. At home I can plug in to TV to watch films or just use my 27" iMac.
I'm thinking about getting either of these so this video was helpful. I cant decide whether I want the iPad mini or the air because of the size mostly. I plan on using the tablet to type up school work and maybe edit videos so I'm leaning towards the iPad Air 2 . I'm so indecisive
Hey Karl, great review & comparison! I can't decide between the iPad Air 2 and the Mini 4. Currently I'm going with the 1st iPad Mini and I'm using it at home most of the time. I really like the form factor and how handy it is. But considering the screen real estate when using multitasking seems to make the iPad Air 2 even more useful. How would you decide?

Lets see. Since apple doesn't allow any upgrades to memory, the only thing that matters here is RAM. If you can get a model with more ram for cheaper than you would another model, then always go for the more cost efficient model/more ram/etc. Mini 4 if you're smart. Air 2 if you like to flush $$$ and kill unicorns.
