  • Magnus Carlsen's reign is ENDING!! Its just a question of when! This fantastic game, featuring an unbelievable tactical finish, is a not so gentle reminder that there are looming threats lurking in what may be the twilight of Carlsen's chess dominance! Enjoy!

Just imagine how high Bobby Fischer's rating would've been if he would've had chess engines to help him analyze games.

Just imagine where Magnus will be when he can train with super-intelligent AI that's light-years ahead of current chess engines at chess strength and magnitudes better at educating humans than current generation AI (large language models), while, at the same time, finding cures for every disease known, and unknown, to man!
But, yeah, no doubt, Fischer - already a BEAST (at chess) in his own right - would have been a real problem for chess players today, given the same tools and chess knowledge to work from. I sure would love to see a tournament between Carlsen, Kasparov and Fischer when playing at their respective peaks, but each having the same tools and prep available to them as modern chess players.

Fischer at his peak had the top ELO, with a gap of ~150 to the rest of the chess world at that time. This is the metric to compare players of different eras. How did they stand among contemporary rivals.

Magnus rated Fischer 7/10 on the genius scale, guess who will have a long career by doing as if the elephant in the room wasnt there at all and doing as if playing games is the real deal?

@@squareonechess6939 as a guy who despises putting in time to learn opening theory, I'm so grateful to Bobby Fischer for this contribution of his to the chess world. I just wish more people would see it the same way as he did then, and I do now (classical chess becoming "stale," due to so much memorization of opening theory coming into play), because it's common on the platform that I play chess on (lichess) for the game queues to literally be empty, even at times when there are tens of thousands of classical chess games being played. It's so frustrating.

Yes someone will eventually pass his rating and beat him. But I think no-one currently in-line will surpass him as the GOAT. Maybe someone who hasn't been born yet will though.

    He is the GOAT !
And will stay nr.1 for longer than people might think... Because he just understands the optimal placement of the pieces better than anyone and also his endgame skills are insane.
Only real threat is himself... It must be hard to keep motivating himself
