The Clips window makes Digital Performer a live performance powerhouse, combining clip triggering with linear, track-based playback and live mixing. DP is now your one stop shop for creative studio production and live performance.

As someone totally new to MOTU and composes in the more traditional way using the horizontal timeline, I think it's important to mention that the Clip area is not necessary to use in order to compose and that it's an optional method similar to Ableton for those who use a looped DJ approach. Otherwise, a first timer looking at this video may be confused. I only know this because I'm looking into MOTU and read about what the Clip area is about. Looking forward to downloading the demo and taking it for a spin. ✌

I said I would go back to DP when they finally figure out how to use midi clips like normal DAWs. Looks like I'm going to have to get DP10.1 now.

This is great! Am going to upgrade from DP8 to this. Would love if you could have automapping for Clips windows for controllers like APC 40 etc.

Excellent! Now is time for MOTU to create a dedicated controller for Digital Performer. This controller should include a keyboard, pads for drum programming and clip launching and a MOTU audio interface with Thunderbolt, USB 3 & MIDI ports. I bet you're already working on such an interface. :-)
MOTU can't make an audio driver to save themselves.. 10 years later and ALL their interfaces still report inaccurate latency to the DAW and must have offset compensation entered. No thanks.
@@teddym2808 That's a bummer. My experience has been the total opposite. I love MOTU interfaces. Out of about 10 interfaces I have had over the years, I'd argue that MOTU's drivers were the most stable, and even in their legacy gear, always updated.

The Drum Editor might be what you're looking for in DP!
Ok, so besides ableton/bitwig style clip loop recording, they have actually finally added normal clips in the horizontal timeline.. finally.

May we use sounds in Soundbank with DP10.1? If yes, how to import those sounds?
Which soundbanks specifically?

@@620pg MOTU Instruments comes with DP10. Please check out channels video for help installing this soundbank so that you can use it within DP10.

@@EdoLeonardi I'm glad you reached out to them! This should be resolved in the most recent version of DP10 (DP 10.11). Please download this and install this if you haven't already.
Anyone knows how well the LaunchPad integrates with clips on DP?
The Launchpad can be used as a traditional MIDI controller in DP. It does not automap to the Clips window, though it's something we'd love to implement!
It only allows me to send two effects like delay etc, that's very little

The link on the MOTU site calls this a tutorial. It's not even close to being instructive.

I honestly thought I was looking at ableton when I first saw it.. i mean look at it! that's a straight rip! i wonder how ableton will react if any....
Did they patent it? Sonar had this for years, so Ableton can "react" as much as they want, though yes, Ableton was the first to implement it, but who cares, welcome to competition.
