Meraviglioso bellissimo grande sentimento super Frank
I remember eating lunch with him in downtown Boston in 2004 while the American Accordionists' Association was in down town Boston with the massed band performing Cheers theme song. I remember telling him and Manny Bobenrieth a joke by Pete Barbutti.
What a beautiful man, what a fantastic musician! Frank Marocco wrote the book. A whole chapter of accordion history lays between his hands. Our instrument has suffered for over a century. There are many "players" who should be shot; they have done the instrument injustice. I agree with Frank when he talks about a certain era, and "romance". Romance comes from the heart- viene dal cuore. HE has inspired generations of accordionists. May his soul rest in peace. God bless you Frank.

Is he playing free-bass or stradella?
No, he plays Stradella. But his total mastery, and his unique left-hand, right-hand balance, makes it sound like he's using free left hand. This is because he plays mainly single notes on the left, and of course doesn't resort to "Umpah"- style accompaniment. The only Jazz accordionist I know of who played chromatic free-bass left hand (on Giulietti- built by Zero Sette) was Randy Arase, who played arrangements by Tito Guidotti. Well worth listening to. However Frank Marocco has a phenomenal swing and very unique sound, and is a TRUE improvisor. Wonderful musician, and BEAUTIFUL person.
