I think trunks is 5'7 and goku is 5'9 idk how that scales in the figures but I think he looks alright height wise. The way he looks in the bojack movie is my favourite look for him.
He looks like a fine height for post time chamber Trunks, he’s definitely too tall for first appearance Trunks imo, not outrageously though, you can definitely make it work with the newer figures.

It's like Bandai's design philosophy for DB Figuarts right now is "Let's make aesthetic-destroying design decisions that don't even help the articulation, and hope people assume it actually is helping the articulation and we are geniuses." That giant jacket gap, broken arm, and hip design is a 100% deal breaker for a $70 figure. Trunks is my second favorite, and the only way I add this to my collection is if a free one falls into my lap lol

I think its annoying how inconsistent this line has become. One release is prestine and the next is just terrible. Perhaps tamashii is trying to help all these 3rd party manufacturers stay afloat, cause you know someone is going to make a better jacket for this Trunks
There's also another problem with this figure that's hard to notice: the lower part of the torso is backwards. If you check the promo pictures you can see these two wrinkles tucked inside his pants on his back are supposed to be on the front.
I didn't notice that ugly gap on the back of the jacket and I'm worried about the QC issues that many people are having with him. I might cancel my pre-order.
Got this figure for a week, just tried ONE gentle pose: then the leg at the swivel part just fell. The metal screw of one of the ball joint is not "biting" anymore the plastic thread. Next rime I ll treat myself a nice box of suppositories instead of buying bandai dbz figures.
The jacket is a deal breaker. For someone who would like to have the entire DBFighterZ cast in figuarts form, tamashii makes it very easy to pass up on that idea.

I thought Bandai couldn't butcher a good figure with bad QC worse than the Spy X Family Loid Forger. But Trunks *easily* beats him in that regard. The legs are bad enough but the floppy torso just kills any fun factor for me. Even with the weird design decisions, if the QC was better, he'd be one of my favourite figures of the year. But as it stands, the only reason I'm keeping him is because it's Trunks in this look.
The thing is the vegeta figure who is cheaper is way better and released at the same time its due to the fact bandai decided to manufacture the figures in vietnam and all of those vietnam figures have TERRIBLE qc
As someone who has the retail release of that Gohan, the first thought that went through my mind when that arm popped off was "oh god, not again." Thought that with all the QC issues lately we were still a least beyond *that* but apparently not. Been hearing mixed things about other QC issues, but if the arm really does pop off on all of them, then god... what a bummer.
I suppose its a good thing you've tempered my expectations now rather than be disappointed when my figure arrives. Watching on my phone, it looked like the plastic at the end if the peg in the arm had stress marks as if there was a ball at the end that had been ripped off. Im still looking forward to getting him I just know what to expect now. Thanks.
Every reviewer I've seen has all the same QC issue. Whoever is in charge of QC at the Vietnam factory is or should get fired. Like I'd get a few having the issue or being random, but it's extremely consistent, so someone had to have known and still okayed it...
I actually do this thing with my dragonball figures where I make them taller by pulling the upper torso up on the joint as far as it’ll go without coming off. So Trunks being this big doesn’t bother me and I actually like it

I want to say this release probably has the most QC issues of any figure in the line within least 5 years. unfortunately you are right there is a ton of simping for this figure just because it's this version of trunks with the sword, and it does look pretty awesome especially compared to that decades+ one.
My favorite Future Trunks designs are definitely anyone with long hair, but yes, both Broly and Bojack movie Trunks are always top of my list along with Saiyan Armor Super Saiyan Trunks with his hair out
Did you have to rotate the abdomen section around cause I swear mine came put together backwards an I've seen other people talk about the same issue curious if its all of them or just some were put together wrong.
I decided to cancel my pre-order of this. My trunks is really the longer haired bare arms Trunks, but as a new DBZ Figuarts collector I just wanted a Trunks on my shelf. Still, I don't think this will be it. I can wait longer hopefully for a Trunks that is more my style. Thanks for letting us know of the issues.

Question of the day: I like just about any version that isn’t the super version. Even the dorky GT outfit. Man, I am not so stoked for this figure when mine arrives. Still happy I didn’t bite the bullet and buy the old version for whatever he’s going for.
Pretty much agree 100 here. Personally love the figure, but objectively the problems really bother me and it does seem universal. Also Idk why they went with that thigh cut design, they really shouldve just followed the same design as superhero Gohan. On top of the fact that the Vietnam factory qc stuff is awful. Right out of the box he's just wiggly, but superhero Gohan is solid, moves well and even had a better finish on the clothing.
I wonder if they are going to start upscaling all their new figures. It only sucks because now the old figures are going to look like shrimps next to the new molds.
The 1.0 figure was as tall as Vegeta, this figure is taller, but not as tall as Goku, so the canonical height of Trunks, which is 5’7. Vegeta’s 5’5 and Goku is 5’9, trunks is smack dab in the middle, he scales well.

The Super Saiyan head sculpt and side-glancing eyes are referencing his fight with Mecha Frieza, when he first arrives to the future. This Trunks is far too tall for that
Which Goku is that in the size comparison? I am torn between Super Hero and From Earth version because of the cool Noodle eating face and accessories! 😩
The size and height don't really bother me. I can interpret him as a later Trunks, not first arrival Trunks, and iirc, the anime had 6 animators each with their own style and one made everyone bulkier with squarer features, so I can accept it. The jacket gap is rough, but all the looseness is a beating. Wonder what the chances of that getting worked out with later runs or if this is just it
Great review. I remember when you did the comparison years ago between the Figure-rise Mechanics Time Machine model kit and the Trunks figure from SH Figuarts line, and it didn't scale well. Do you think this new mold should solve that problem?
This is also my favorite look for Trunks, who is also my favorite Dragon Ball character! I was actually kinda dreading this release as soon as I saw it was using the new style of legs, and now with the confirmation that it's being done by the Vietnam factories, which means QC issues... like, yeah, I'm still gonna get it, but man what a letdown. The way they did the jacket is also horrendous. Really hoping a customizer or third party company can make a replacement for it because I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

@@AnthonysCustomsit is universal. it was up on premium bandai for a short while and i sold my old one because the new one is pretty much perfect. the left arm is fixed. the legs no longer wobble and they move smoothly while holding their position. bottom torso was in the correct position and the sword sheath doesnt come off as easily. one of his bangs that was covering up an eye was also moved slightly to not cover up his eye i'm assuming. you should try to get your hands on the reissue, it's worth it
Dude my Trunks figures left leg (my left) broke off after a couple of months of having him but since his left kneecap and his right arm fell off I just gave up on him and just to let you know his bottom ab crunch is backwards not to mention he has very loose legs and at least on my copy he had loose arms not in the elbows though I think it was somewhere in the shoulders, and I got something on mine that isn't really a QC issue but his ab crunch was really squeaky and would almost studder so it would be very annoying to move.
Omnistore hasn’t shipped mine yet but the QC issues are a bummer. Still getting him because I do feel my OJ Trunks just needs an upgrade. I never got the Sayian Armor Trunks or the Super Trunks and I am not gonna pay 3rd party price for them. I have seen others say this is more based on the FighterZ game, which does make a lot of sense scale wise. Hoping that DF or Kong take a stab at his version. DF has been pretty slacking lately but honestly the Ultra SEgo Vegeta Kong put out is an incredible figure. I’d like to see a Trunks from them.
I believe this Trunks is taken from when he comes back to the future after the cell games, he spent an entire year with Vegeta in the HyperBolic Time Chamber, and when he returns even Future Bulma notices that he has grown older and taller.
the way the back of the jacket looks is weird the way the hip and upper leg area looks and how it was designed is insane and now that they gave us such a great looking color for the super saiyan hair...I can't wait for them to never use it again haha because that's something they would do
I was really excited for this trunks and I am happy with the in hand product. But the QC issues bother me much and the high thigh swivels are really off putting.

The jacked thing might been made because they plan to release the bojack look or the jacketless look of trunks might be.. don't know. Figure looks awesome tho.. just like you said an effect part 1 blast or slash effect would have been great.
I think his height is fine, slightly shorter than Goku and slightly taller than Vegeta figuarts which is how he is in the anime and official height numbers in the DB Super Exciting Guide
Good review. So as someone who loves Trunks,, kept the Super version and kept like 10/12 Dragon Ball SHF figs (I boxed up the figures and have a few Banprestos to rep DB instead) I'm tempted to get it, might make him a desk figure but maybe wait for a sale? But I can do with a $30 Banpresto....
Maybe his tallness and buffness is referring to the time he trained in the hyperbolic time chamber for a year. And that this is after the cell games. That hair reminds me when they used to draw the hair like actual hair and not just spikey bananas
I recently moved to another country so I sold most of DBZ figuarts except for Broly and because of this I don’t really mind if he is too big. I’m almost certain that they will remake a newer and bigger version of at least Vegeta and Goku. If that is the case then I would gladly get them.
He's like a hair upscaled and I agree the design isn't accurate to the more slender look of the manga and a bit mor3 bulky then the anime. As for my favorite design, it's the Bojack movie version tied with the long hair and armor.
i don't see why they could've just use the jacket from the first trunks figure. and yeah the thigh cuts is getting weird. i would just do a head swop or kitbashing this trunks with the 1.0 trunks
So I got this figure and his sword shed wouldn’t stay on so I exchanged it for another at my store that sells them and guess what? I got one with arm problem like yours now. And paint on the sword had scratches. Big let down for me.
09:55 to 10:25…. What on earth is that jacket about? From the front, it looks amazing. Then you pointed out the back… and I felt offended by that design… This is one of the first “normal” sized Z-fighter I’ve seen I’ve actually wanted as it looks really well done to the source material. The colour for the super Saiyan hair, is the best I’ve seen. It’s a shame there isn’t a half smiling face like he does when he tells Freeza, “Goku wasn’t the only super Saiyan,” I think the height to Goku figure is ok, but the head proportions is off. I think they need to increase Gokus dimensions as with most of the adult line as they are too small. Trunks should look smaller as he is a teen compared to an adult Goku. As a solo figure, this works better on its own. This is a potential future buy.

I would be confident enough to say that he scales pretty well for a trunks after the hyperbolic time chamber/bojack trunks
The size and height don't really bother me. I can interpret him as a later Trunks, not first arrival Trunks, and iirc, the anime had 6 animators each with their own style and one made everyone bulkier with squarer features, so I can accept it. The jacket gap is rough, but all the looseness is a beating. Wonder what the chances of that getting worked out with later runs or if this is just it
Great review. I remember when you did the comparison years ago between the Figure-rise Mechanics Time Machine model kit and the Trunks figure from SH Figuarts line, and it didn't scale well. Do you think this new mold should solve that problem?

I was actually kinda dreading this release as soon as I saw it was using the new style of legs, and now with the confirmation that it's being done by the Vietnam factories, which means QC issues... like, yeah, I'm still gonna get it, but man what a letdown.
The way they did the jacket is also horrendous. Really hoping a customizer or third party company can make a replacement for it because I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
They might have combine him with post rost trunks who got a growth spurt and put on mass vs just doing first appearance trunks.
It's so weird to me that he's such a popular character. Outside of his introduction and his outro in the original series, he really didn't do anything.

The reason I got it was because I heard the reissue fixed the QC issues. This is what I've heard on reddit though, so I can't sayfor sure.@@AnthonysCustoms
@@AnthonysCustomsit is universal. it was up on premium bandai for a short while and i sold my old one because the new one is pretty much perfect. the left arm is fixed. the legs no longer wobble and they move smoothly while holding their position. bottom torso was in the correct position and the sword sheath doesnt come off as easily. one of his bangs that was covering up an eye was also moved slightly to not cover up his eye i'm assuming. you should try to get your hands on the reissue, it's worth it
Dude my Trunks figures left leg (my left) broke off after a couple of months of having him but since his left kneecap and his right arm fell off I just gave up on him and just to let you know his bottom ab crunch is backwards not to mention he has very loose legs and at least on my copy he had loose arms not in the elbows though I think it was somewhere in the shoulders, and I got something on mine that isn't really a QC issue but his ab crunch was really squeaky and would almost studder so it would be very annoying to move.

Omnistore hasn’t shipped mine yet but the QC issues are a bummer. Still getting him because I do feel my OJ Trunks just needs an upgrade. I never got the Sayian Armor Trunks or the Super Trunks and I am not gonna pay 3rd party price for them.
I have seen others say this is more based on the FighterZ game, which does make a lot of sense scale wise. Hoping that DF or Kong take a stab at his version. DF has been pretty slacking lately but honestly the Ultra SEgo Vegeta Kong put out is an incredible figure. I’d like to see a Trunks from them.
The FighterZ argument fails to consider they've released figures from the game before and it said so on the box. This says Dragon Ball Z.

I believe this Trunks is taken from when he comes back to the future after the cell games, he spent an entire year with Vegeta in the HyperBolic Time Chamber, and when he returns even Future Bulma notices that he has grown older and taller.

the way the back of the jacket looks is weird
the way the hip and upper leg area looks and how it was designed is insane
and now that they gave us such a great looking color for the super saiyan hair...I can't wait for them to never use it again haha because that's something they would do
I was really excited for this trunks and I am happy with the in hand product. But the QC issues bother me much and the high thigh swivels are really off putting.

I think it really sucks that the old trunks figures had a sword hilt instead of sheathing the whole sword. Definitely a downgrade in that regard

I think his height is fine, slightly shorter than Goku and slightly taller than Vegeta figuarts which is how he is in the anime and official height numbers in the DB Super Exciting Guide
Good review. So as someone who loves Trunks,, kept the Super version and kept like 10/12 Dragon Ball SHF figs (I boxed up the figures and have a few Banprestos to rep DB instead) I'm tempted to get it, might make him a desk figure but maybe wait for a sale? But I can do with a $30 Banpresto....
I still have the very first one that they released and still prefer that one over the 12 different ones they've released.
Maybe his tallness and buffness is referring to the time he trained in the hyperbolic time chamber for a year. And that this is after the cell games. That hair reminds me when they used to draw the hair like actual hair and not just spikey bananas

I recently moved to another country so I sold most of DBZ figuarts except for Broly and because of this I don’t really mind if he is too big. I’m almost certain that they will remake a newer and bigger version of at least Vegeta and Goku. If that is the case then I would gladly get them.

He's like a hair upscaled and I agree the design isn't accurate to the more slender look of the manga and a bit mor3 bulky then the anime. As for my favorite design, it's the Bojack movie version tied with the long hair and armor.
i don't see why they could've just use the jacket from the first trunks figure. and yeah the thigh cuts is getting weird. i would just do a head swop or kitbashing this trunks with the 1.0 trunks
The rear neck of the jacket is very delicate careful not to ripped
So I got this figure and his sword shed wouldn’t stay on so I exchanged it for another at my store that sells them and guess what? I got one with arm problem like yours now. And paint on the sword had scratches. Big let down for me.

This is one of the first “normal” sized Z-fighter I’ve seen I’ve actually wanted as it looks really well done to the source material. The colour for the super Saiyan hair, is the best I’ve seen.
It’s a shame there isn’t a half smiling face like he does when he tells Freeza,
“Goku wasn’t the only super Saiyan,”
I think the height to Goku figure is ok, but the head proportions is off. I think they need to increase Gokus dimensions as with most of the adult line as they are too small.
Trunks should look smaller as he is a teen compared to an adult Goku.
As a solo figure, this works better on its own.
This is a potential future buy.

I still enjoy this figure sice there's also good things but do wish the bad things were less than more.
