6 Ways Iron Man is Cooler Than Captain America
The rivalry between iron Man and Captain America has reached a fever pitch with Captain America: Civil War. And in the movies (Winter Soldier, Avengers, etc.) and comics both are incredibly effective leaders. What is undeniable though, is that people follow them for different reasons, because Iron Man is much cooler than Captain America. In fact, Captain America can be kind of a dweeb
In honor of Captain America: Civil War I wanted to look at the actors behind these 2 iconic characters. Because whether Iron Man has bled into Robert Downey Junior or vice versa, the fact is that they have both mastered the art of witty banter and cool demeanor.
Chris Evans and Captain America, still make great leaders but in a very different way. They're much more good-hearted and likable. So let's take a look at how some tiny little habits make Robert Downey Junior and Tony Stark come across as cool while Chris Evans and Captain America come off as something else entirely.
We'll explore the different ways that they use sarcasm, joke, and pay attention to other people. And in the end hopefully we can resolve this Civil War peacefully ;-)

The majority of the first Iron Man movie was improv they had a half baked script and a few unknown actors so if anything Iron man is more Robert Downey Jr.
Tony Stark is literally just RDJ but slightly more exaggerated. The thing I love about RDJ's Tony Stark is that he's practically playing himself in all the Marvel movies he appears in and his performance always comes off as natural.

Another thing should be noted about sarcasm. Rdj is actually very careful about how he uses sarcasm. He never does it to put other people down. Chris is such a great guy, and busy too.
Went straight to pick up his award after teaching high school history.
This all comes down to playing with status (see Keith Johnstone's book "Impro"). Both men are confident, but one asserts high status at every opportunity, and one enjoys elevating other peoples' status (either by lowering his own, or raising the other person's)
I think RJD enjoys being high status. He's been a movie star for a lot longer and is used to it. Chris Evans is more modest and humble. I think their individual personality traits had a lot to do with the Marvel roles they each got.
RDJ also fought his way through he'll and back. I think that on top of his natural ease and timing just gives him an air of natural confidence these days.
*RDJ* never uses sarcasm to bring people down but only to bring himself up. Big difference!

I don't want to be the coolest person in the room though. When i bring people together I want to play them up, give them openings to share fun stories, etc. Sometimes a group just needs someone earnest, a bit of a background character, ready to be self depricating. I never really thought about it like this before - I LOVE this channel.
I think an interesting point to note here is that being very famous adds an entirely new benefit to these styles of communication. These concepts are certainly applicable for anyone, but it's important to remember that you will not be viewed as a "prize" to be won over by the people around you automatically, and acting in these ways (especially like Robert) is very likely to make most people just think you're arrogant. Yes, it can be done, but it's insanely difficult for an average person to find that balance. Robert has the benefit of his fame doing a bit of that balancing for him, because people already want him to like them before even entering the conversation. So, if you want to be the distracted, envied, cool guy - tone it down, and be super careful.
Personally, I'd go for the RDJ persona when you first meet people, and then I'd transition into something more like Cap as I start to get to know them better. It makes them feel like they're genuinely winning you over as you interact with them over time, and that is a powerful feeling to have.
I think I have that problem xD like when I meet people, I usually act very confident, very sarcastic and fun, then as I get to know someone I turn into a puppy... And it's not fun anymore but annoying xD
@@ArcticZombie nah it's the RDJ persona because RDJ isn't even really acting, he's just being himself as he reads lines lol.
BabySnake You should learn to change mask.Flip it constantly to keep things interesting.Don’t flip too often though since it may become too unpredictable and make the other person always feel on edge not knowing how you’re gonna act.

You explained the video in one sentence... *_I am proud._*
I prefer to be around people like Chris who are guileless and consider the feelings of others during interactions rather than people who adopt methods to appear cool - methods which often involve manipulation and narcissism to cause people to continuously feel unbalanced in their presence.
I like Robert Downey, love his movies.
If I were by some serendipitous fate given a choice, I'd definitely rather hang out with Chris Evans.
These videos are so interesting & honestly very helpful for understanding others. Never saw conversations in this perspective. Makes sense why y'all got almost 5 million subs ;)
I like this video, not because of the topic, but because of how analytical and accurate the video was. I don't think many people could describe someones personality as well as this man did, and he doesn't even know the guy.
Kai Widman iiuuu
I agree this is very accurate, but there are some places where I feel like it's more generalized than it should be. For example, he said that RDJ's method of looking away from you when talking makes you want to work harder to keep his attention or walk away feeling like "I hope he likes me"... it would be quite the opposite for me. If someone wasn't directly looking at me and make me feel like they're not interested in talking to me I will just excuse myself and not waste my time in the company of someone who refuses to show me the same respect and attention I give them. They can reach out when they're ready to give me their full attention. I default to Chris Evan's and Emilia Clarke's style.

Dilan Gilluly Idk if I am familiar with either enough to agree with you, but I will say that the difference is that a leader leads by example, fighting along side those who look to him. He(she) is generally not as much appointed as recognized and chosen. Whereas a boss usually is more likely to tell you what to do not do it themselves, and they will always be placed in that position or self-appointed, delegating tasks to those under his/her charge.

@@van-hieuvo8208 this. What makes RDJ cool and not just arrogant & cocky is that we know he's earned it, paid his dues, and most of us know it intuit that he's actually a good person underneath. Without all that backdrop to his persona, his mannerisms would just come off as a jerk.

I'm always afraid I will come off as a jerk or accidentally insult someone, so I get overly nice. If I break out the passive aggressive, you've done something wrong.
Sometimes people don't know what I'm saying when I'm overly nice.
I decided a while back to not worry about it. I have detractors, but overall I have way more people laughing and listening than the few that can't deal with my point of view. The reason is my point of view usually doesn't jibe with their perception of what THEY think I am, so my personality simply carries the day usually.

The biggest mystery in my mind is how RDJ was able to pull off those sarcastic and "I'm the best guy in the room" jokes without people seeing him as arrogant or pretentious. In fact, everyone (I myself included) seems to appreciate him for that attitude.
Because he’s one of the biggest stars Hollywood has ever had and arguably the greatest in the last decade. I’m not a fan and I don’t think his acting is particularly all that great. But he’s an icon and he has the accolades, he can do whatever because he’s been through so much.
Because he treats people good. He loves his fans. Movie crew/staff members have appreciated him multiple times for his polite behaviour. They also said he is never late for film shooting. Whenever new actor is hired for MCU, he calls them and make them feel comfortable and special. So it is easy to say that he is not arrogant type. And he's just being sarcastic
Because his expressions are great enough to show you he's joking. Why? Because he's a *professional actor.*
Its his in front of camera persona i think. And he just the regular genuine funny guy to the people around him. So that's why people didnt take his sarcasm seriously
I think it’s in the body language, but also there’s something about the way he says those things that make you know it’s sarcasm. Real arrogant people are not fun, and I’ve been around a lot of them.
I would love for you to analyze Richard Dean Anderson’s character Jack O’niell from Stargate: SG-1. He’s also very sarcastic so I’d love your comparison (whether directly or indirectly) on how he’s similar to or different from Robert/Tony
Well researched and super interesting. I imagine it’s pretty hard, especially the older you are, to change your personality enough to affect real change in your interactions with people imho. These mechanisms and skills come together to help you manage your life at a young age. For example I am a younger of two brothers. Some of my mannerisms developed to diffuse tension with my brother, whereas he was often trying to influence me, good or bad. Now I have children and see those behaviors, and others, based off their life experiences.
If I tried the Tony approach, I'd come off as a dick. He does it so perfectly, and that's something I could never emulate regularly. I think I'm more of a balance between the two. More Tony around large groups of people and more Cap around friends.
I mean... Robert... and Chris...
Yeah totally agree with the "group vs friends" difference
Carlos Rodriguez I act more Cap around groups and more Tony around friends
I mean, though you are putting on an act to an extent to further how cool you look, you can't just go out one day and act like Tony Stark. You still the the props to back it up.

RDJ is Tony Stark and Tony Stark is RDJ. End of story.
I knew I wasn't the only one thinking this.
U forgot iron man and Jarvis
Chris Evans is cap. And cap is Chris
Only that one of them dead
Bumper is correct in his assessment, as both RDJ and Tony Stark are ENTP's. Your statement is close, but not comple. The difference between Chris Evans and Cap are that CE is an ISFJ and Cap is an ISTJ. Chris cares way more about your feelings and what you think about him, and your comfort level, than does Cap. Cap's F and T scores aren't as far apart as Tony's F and T scores are. This is why so many say that Cap is so dull, while people largely say that Chris Evans is so cool, or is just the nicest guy. Cap is more duty focused, Chris is people focused, which is generally more likable when compared apples to apples.RDJ and Tony Stark do not suffer any such distinctions when compared apples to apples.

Very good training. I was part of Charisma University some months back. I will join up again next year.
I would love to both of them as very close friend, they are very different yet they are both very kind and genuine people. Chris adore Robert and the same goes to his love to Chris. I love the video anyway!!
Im so jealous of his charisma, sarcasm and really cool personality
Yoo dude Greninja is my favorite Pokemon

Don’t be jealous, strive to work towards having charisma, being sarcastic and having a cool personality
So I was just watching a couple of interviews with RDJ and Tom Holland for Spiderman (especially on Kimmel), and I was remembering this video.
But I thought how interesting it is how different RDJ was in these interviews ... he seemed to be using his charisma to almost continuously push focus onto Tom Holland (who is himself pretty charming and charismatic) and he was much more open about laughing at his jokes etc.
I thought that might also be an interesting study as well, how he may use his draw of the audience to actually benefit the other guy in an interview when he wants to. He could easily have dominated but you can see how giving he is to Tom Holland, and I think that translates into Tom Holland's relaxed confidence as well?
It's maybe similar to what you were saying Chris Evans does, but I just found the contrast really interesting in this case.
Aww that's so true! Now I'm getting this Iron Man - Spider Man Father-Son relatinoship vibe lol.
@@lokes6604 Well... it was fun while it lasted... *silently looks at Infinity War*
Interesting... So do you think RDJ is "nicer" towards Tom Holland because of Holland... Or more because RDJ just felt like he was too much on the 'cool guy' side and he needs to change a little?
And what is about Holland that made the change?

Yea it’s just sometimes i flip between the two sides and it can be hard for people to know what kinda guy I am but I can’t choose between which type of person I wanna be
This video literally started with RDJ's plus points but towards the end of it as the video plays it became more like Evan's nice things.. I like it tho.. Evans is a great human being. Such a happy soul
I really like Chris Evans, I appreciate that kind vibe that he has very much. Confident but at the same time kind. Just a nice guy any way you look at him.
@@pammeckley3888 true.. He's a gem
very good analysis...A balance of Chris and Robert will be great.
+Vanz Marco if had to choose only one ... which will u prefer? ;)
I prefer Robert. He knows himself very well, and he don't please people. And you?
I think Robert is the smarter one here, however, Chris appear to be much of a genuine person. I am in an ethical pickle ;)
+Moh'd Saidely Haha..he is :D
I'm a balance of Chris and Robert but in my own way
It’s easier to be likeable than cool, cool requires more quick thinking, likeable is just being agreeable which can almost come off as a lack of self confidence
Please explain more, what it called? I need help i lack at self-confidence
