This music video is shot in the theme of German Expressionism. Wrong angles, black and white, odd geometric shapes, light and shadow, swirls or checkerboard patterns, etc. It was introduced in Germany in the early 1900s after World War I, as foreign films were banned in that country. Some of the greatest film directors later embraced the same style and made it popular world wide. Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and Tim Burton to name a few.

Back in the 80s/90s, Irina, we watched VH-1 and MTV for hours a day to get our fix of music videos just like this. RHCP is a great band despite my not remembering this particular tune. Great choice, Irina, thanks for the music and memories 👍🏻

Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band I remember I used to watch this music video on MTV when I was a kid I love watching you react to this classic stuff you should check out two songs by Blue Oyster Cult one is Burnin for you the other is Don't Fear the Reaper

I've always liked this band and this song, but I don't think that I have ever seen the video before. I think it's fascinating! The 770M views blows my mind. 🤯 It's a good song, but it's not THAT great. It's actually only about their 8th best song, depending on who you ask. My personal favorite is 'Give It Away'. Their most watched video is 'Californication', with 1.1 billion views.

A lot of videos are very distracting and have nothing to do with the music... It can be near impossible to watch the video and really hear the song.

Not only - visual - but musically they are teasing with atonality worthy of Schoenberg… each riff seeming to go outta tune - intentionally - then pulling back into pop harmonics…
Musical purists would complain “sell out!” Urging them to TEACH the audience to accept full blown atonality but they know non-musicians will TUNE OUT so did do “sell out” by staying on the “pop-side” retaining their fans and keeping it “entertaining” and - yes - making$$$ Welcome to Reality.
