Thus leaving us with the dilemma of how and sometimes even why continually try to reach the shore of the other. Ya’ll are courageous, agile, informed and inspired - thank you for a beautiful modeling of community for us all. Yup ~ the action happens in the garden.
The houses are beautiful...I love the idea of eco friendly tiny homes. I'm so happy that you talk about the reality of working with other people and how diverse your ideas are yet what brings you together is ' earth love'.
I agree John, I own land in Colorado that is restricted. No tiny houses are 600 sq ft. The rest of the acreage/ land is cheap too. Could have lots of tiny homes and help out the town. Makes sense to me
At 2:40 when she said "we don't agree with you as an individual" and then laughs...This really started to feel like a town in a horror movie, where the car breaks down, the husband goes to look for help, and finds to this village in the middle of the forest.
I would much rather rent a space for my tiny-home from an INDIVIDUAL Donald Trump type landlord than to buy a lot in an HOA village where the wanna-be dictator neighbors rise to the top of the chain in the HOA and make everyone's life a living hell. At my sister's HOA controlled home in a village, they wouldn't let you leave your car in your own driveway and you had to put it in the garage every night. And someone dropped off a house-warming potted plant on the front port when she was away for a few days and then the HOA-nazis left a citation on the door with a penalty for a non-code decor on the porch.
I love concrete flooring your village is so nice - please when opening your doors to the public take care of each other - you all have kept your village well - congrats to you all and happy living
These are some nice big tiny homes with plenty of space. Looks better than my three bedroom 1 bath rental. This is something I would look into building for me.
I love the concept of what' they're striving to accomplish and can appreciate it...more of us can learn from this. But in these times it truly takes a special kind of people that can make it happen...I'm inspired, thx👍🏾🙏🏾✌🏾💞
Wonderful to see folks working things out. A similar set-up (old hippies and widows) in Florida recently had to tackle an unusual problem. One resident imported her three grandkids for the entire summer into this over-55 community. The kids were hellions, showing no respect for residents, the gardens or livestock. After a long destructive month, Grandma was told the kids had to go. Grandma contested that it was her house and she paid lot rent. Management pointed out policy that stated guests could only stay one week and good manners would be appreciated. Where do you draw the line at personal freedom/ownership versus the good of all? To me, "Community" sums it up.
I'm in love, grew up and really Used to love WA, thanks to the Govener this year its really turned into a sheeot shew lol Wonderful sounding place, keep rocking the collective comm-unity consciousness!!

Like the finishes & features. Also good idea to leave unfinished. Make adjustments as it is lived in. All are different but interesting. #1 I especially like your bedroom & tile work. It's a good arrangement for the elderly so they don't have to feel so isolated but still have a little independence. They don't need much room anymore because of not having kids etc. I mean a lot of people live closer to others than that in apartments but they're not expected to have to interact with them. Don't think I'd be interested in interacting with strangers or being made to feel uncomfortable if I don't get along with somebody though. A commune like that only works if you get along with each other and you all have a say in who moves in.
@Bel H I live in a similar community in North Carolina , ages 55-85 . We find that mix of ages works fairly well . There are a few things we hire out , but not a lot .
It helps that most are of the same age and have similar values and life experiences. Old hippies have seen it all, probably done it all, and are happy where they are, regardless of battle scars. We didn't live in a self-focused media generation with unrealistic expectations. We are not controlled by hormones, testosterone, the need for drama or to be a victim. We learned what's worth fighting over, and what isn't worth our remaining time. Once you hit sixty, believe me your perspective on dealing with BS changes. ✨ That's how you make a commune work.
I love when you go to villages looking at the different homes gives me the feels. I love to see how everyone personalizes their home. These tiny home videos inspired me to do a balcony garden
Great to see this video... I didn't hear how many acres it is on, but will check the link to the site. Coburg had a demonstration community many years ago... not sure if they have tiny houses, but probably, by now. They were experimenting with different types of housing back in the 1990's (?) - can't remember when I heard about them. I was really impressed with the comments on the clay outside of the one house... wondered if that was really true. That comment about being in community is like being married to 30 people was funny. :-) I am noticing a lot of seniors as the residents of some of these villages... like the TX one and this one. I LOVED hearing that the land is owned by the whole community and the individual residents own their "improvements." :-) It makes it a proven concept. I keep wondering what the optimum land and resident limit should be with communities. Still haven't decided on that one. They have minimum acreage for animals (cows, horses, sheep, etc.) so I wonder if they have a reasonable number for human beings... probably not -- look at the lot sizes in big cities. I think it's down to 1 tenth an acre...
FYI - the website says the land is seven acres... the video says "lots" so I am thinking each house is on a single lot, except the three tiny homes that seem to be a permit issue... yes?
Absolutely love it!! I am so glad to find more independent. examples of this working!! It takes a village. Its sickening how much redtape there is to be "legal" that has NOTHING to do with safety. Love this. Let's lobby for towns to allow tiny houses.

rural communities outside of governmental control is best!
