Was there with my Dad for this one. 10 years old and i still vividly remember this hit - the bank erupted. Big Ben got sacked like 9 times & the Steelers didn't score a single point. After the game ended we stuck around for a bit; when we got to the elevator the doors opened up and standing there was Sugar in a gold suit. Will never forget the look my Dad gave me. He was a redskins fan but I can confidently say, on that November day in 2006 he was part of the Flock. RIP Pops - Go Ravens.

One of the most memorable games in M&T Bank Stadium History. It was the only time we ever shut out Big Ben during the many times we played him. The funny thing about this game was that the play that I remember the most wasn't the hit Bart Scott put on Big Ben as legendary as that was. It was the fumble return for a touchdown by Adalius Thomas. Fun fact, we ran the same blitz package but this time it was Corey Ivy who came in unscathed. Once that happened the place was in a state of bedlam. Shoutout to the one fan who had the guts to bring a sign that said "Terrible Towels for a terrible team" that day. (Although that curse got to us in the playoffs that year) The Steelers were the defending champions at the time, and for the Ravens to beat them the way they did in that game was awesome. I'm so glad that Zach Orr is bringing back the "Organized Chaos" motto for the 2024 season!

@@dayaaron87 rebuilding for 2 seasons (2022 and 2023) really isn’t a long time for an NFL perspective like you seem to be making it out to be, by saying “y’all have been rebuilding since Ben left.” Yes, they weren’t true contenders those two years, or during Ben’s latter years like you mentioned, but they were still respectable teams who can beat tough foes (like the Ravens) during the regular season and even make it as a wild card spot on some years. Not necessarily “standing on this” as though it’s a remarkable accomplishment, just pointing out the fact they’ve had the Ravens number these past 4-5 years, hence why I said..even amidst rebuilding, they still find ways to beat the Ravens.
And you said AFC championship games (plural) as though the ravens have done it more than once recently. That’s not the case. Before you say it, I already know that the Steelers haven’t made it that far since the 2016 season.

As a Ravens fan, the 2000's-early 2010's era of the rivalry was something else. I still think the Steelers and Ravens are two of the most physically tough teams in the sport, but it is different. The game has changed to become more safe which I understand, but it has diminished the intensity a little bit.
That era with Big Ben, Harrison, Polumalu, Lewis, Reed, Suggs, etc. really made me respect both the Ravens and the Steelers so much more. It was like watching two top ranked heavyweights going at it every year. And seeing how highly both organizations speak of each other makes it that much more enjoyable!

The group of guys we had perfectly matched up with Rex's philosophy and aggresion and it was a sight to behold. Being at the stadium where u could look down and view the whole D at once and see damn near the whole D Line upright & the ridiculous amount of movement all the way up to the snap was like a form of art. It felt like there was nothing the opposing offense could do. Unfortunately, like most years back then our offense couldn't do it's part to score a single TD when it mattered and wasted another DOMINANT defensive effort that held a prime Peyton Manning to 5 fgs in the playoff game.

Used to be.... we gotta start winning some. It pains me that 8 never beat 7

Today that hit would be a PF with a free 15 yards & a big fine.

I felt this one on tv. Rob Burnett crushing the Bengals qb was the only harder hit I'd ever seen.

Haha as a Die hard steeler fan, this is pretty fucking cool. No other rivalry is quite like ours. Kinda hate y’all, but would somehow get a invite to the BBQ. It’s hard to explain but only us ravens n Steelers fans truly get it

I love Bart with all my heart.🙏🏽 but we as an organization of names built on blood in the sand can’t lose like that in championship games.. still can’t stop thinking about it gotta do better for barts legacy and the legacy of all who put that purple on 🫡

Respect what you said except one thing:
The Ravens were built in the image of the Steelers not the other way around 😂

This might be the best Legal hit in Ravens history. Courtney Upshaw had another massive hit on Ben a few years later but it was called off because of a penalty.

    The broken nose 👃 💔
That's one of the biggest hits, and it might not have felt as bad but it was a game changer too ❤🎉😂

@Youdontride94 I know, it was fitting that they did. Still a huge hit. I'm trying to think of Ben ever let Ray hit him. I'm digging into that one

It was a legal hit back them, but with the QB hit rules today that would of been a Flag for roughing the passer, he hit up around the head/neck area and he laid on top with his weight. But it was legal back then.

Wouldn't be remembering this play if it happened today, it would have been a penalty for driving the QB into the ground.
