As a teacher, I can definitively say yes on the gift cards, and an big yes on the personalized notes! They are easy to save and organize! 👍💛
DoItOnaDime Can you believe this? In Alabama (where I live) they have banned giving teacher gift cards. It's insane.
What about guy teachers what do you think I should do
ari a if the teacher is a man, they love their job just as much as a teacher who's a woman. they would probably love a handmade card. Day planners and Journals are always a great idea as well.
DoItOnaDime a personalized note WITH a gift card....I mean when parents can't afford to get teachers gifts I understand but if they can they really should give something useful. You can't go wrong with a gift card.
Lydia Senn | Five4FiveMeals Yes, gift cards are banned in our school district too.
I am proud to be a teacher too

@@marisolcabrera7784 what u mean
I just received a gift today that was in an orange bag and it had a paper orange slice on it and in the middle of the slice read "Orange you glad you're an a-mason teacher!" Inside the bag was a mason jar with a straw and handle and inside was filled with everything orange - peach crystal light tea, orange tic tacs, orange trident gum, orange hand sanitizer, and orange sunscreen. Then taped on the outside of the jar was a $25 gift card to Target. Seriously one of the sweetest gifts ever. I really appreciate the creativity! :)
That is SO creative. I should do stuff like that with my teachers!
Amanda Barteaux omg I really want to give this to my teacher thnx so much for the idea!
Weirdest teacher gift I ever got was lingerie...from one of the dad's...ick! And the best was a spa day package which included mani/pedi and massage...my class gave it to me before my wedding!
Kindercrafty WHAT. I would send that weird gift right on back.
Kindercrafty WHAT??? Spa package sounds nice though!
+Le poonda lover xD because that would have been professional
a mug that ses there name
The only black man in a statement issued by the time I try to be u to get
Such a great idea to sit down with Presley's teacher!
ahw my heart broke when she said we are teachers, we're poor
David Mesut it's true tho
Our teachers in Arizona did a walkout earlier this month and now theyve worked out a deal of 20% raise by 2020 from our governor Doug Ducey... yay! finally!! ❤️ #REDforED !
its so not fair. football players make so much throwing a leather ball and then teachers give children an education which affects their lives forever and make like no money. they deserve more.
Potato74 Tracy People don’t pay (other than property tax, no choice) to watch teachers teach but pay big bucks to watch football. Do you the NFL, or any of the players for that matter, would really give some of their big earnings to teachers? I highly doubt it!
who else watches what's up moms even though they're not a mom??
I do.... i mean i might be a mum someday, so... ;)
Maybe ... No ... Yes umm 😂
yeah, I mean I'll be a mum in like 10...15 years right? 😁
Me and I am 8
ginaberg2002 g2002 you shouldn't even be on RUclips if you were 8 the age is 13
My mom is a teacher, and one year all of her students got our whole family a night at a really fancy hotel. It's a nice idea to ask the whole class to contribute to one big gift.
That was a really nice piece! When my daughters were in kindergarten & elementary school the end of the year was so hard. I loved every teacher and cried like a baby when it was time to say goodbye!! They are ALL so special taking our precious ones through the world of learning!!
Windkisssed I am NOT ready to say goodbye! The teachers are SO special.
My son will be in 2nd grade and since he was in preschool, I've always asked his teacher what types of stuff she likes, her fave snack, color, food, drinks etc. and it gives me an idea what to get for her for Christmas, birthday, teacher appreciation week, a just because gift and end of year. I would rather get them a gift I know they are going to use and love. ☺️😊 I've always invested in my son's teachers because they are investing in his education for the years to come. ☺️😊
Charity D I love it when the parents ask what I would like. it shows that you truly care about us!
Cool
I feel like teachers don't get paid enough?
Angelina Winslowe Same
Angelina Winslowe they don't?
Angelina Winslowe they d
They should get paid more, they worked hard teaching students, and they been through a lot with children’s behavior.
Me to
Aww Ms Terri is so sweet. She seems like such a wonderful and caring person x
I had to watch the video twice, I was getting tips for my daughters teachers then at the end I felt like crying, It was so emotional, so precious... omg I'm gonna miss my daughter's teachers more than her lol she is really good!
Bianca Zamborlini Teachers really become part of your family!
Indeed!
+Bianca Zamborlini even I felt the same
i know you are verry sad
😂😂😂😂😂😂
At the beginning of the school year, I had my daughter's teacher fill out a survey for me with her favorite colors, snacks, restaurants, starbucks/jamba juice drink, school supply, bath & body works scent, etc... throughout the year for every occassion (valentines, christmas, teacher appreciation, her birthday) we gave her something off her list. I was told through a friend who teaches at the same school that she was so blessed by the thoughtfulness and really appreciated that! It felt wonderful to be able to give her things that she really would love. I plan to do this every year with each of my kids' teachers... it makes gift giving so much easier!
I don't think it matters what you give, it's the thought that counts. Last year I received three boxes of Hazelnut chocolates and even though I couldn't eat them because I'm allergic it was really heart warming to receive the gifts especially since I was just a member of the after school club, not an actual teacher but I was always happy with hugs and cards from the children (which I still have hanging up on my wall)
I'm a teacher-to-be! I'm still working on my Elementary Special Ed degree, but my mom worked as an aide in an elementary school last year and was shocked by getting gifts even though she wasn't actually a teacher, she had quite the loads at Christmas and the end of the year. Pretty sure the gift cards were her favorite gifts too, places like Target or Starbucks (or maybe even Michaels?) make great teacher gifts.
As a teacher, a heartfelt note from parents/kids is the best
My mum is a Year 1 teacher (in England) and she mainly gets wine and chocolate, never gift cards! English parents clearly aren't as inventive as American, haha!
DreamyGirl73 One of the reasons American teachers like gift cards is because they use the money to improve their classrooms. Teachers spend a lot of their own money on supplies for their class.
***** Unfortunate that they don't get enough government funding :(
***** So do English teachers! But gift cards are usually for games or clothes stores over here :)
We normally get teachers gift cards in junior school but there was one teacher who was spending it on his kids so we got him something he couldn't use for his kids....some pretend beach umbrellas for his beard 😂😂😂
DreamyGirl73 haha, my mum always does a collection with nearly all of the parents in my class, and then buys a gift card (we live in England as well) so she can spend it. Also the children get gifts for the teacher as well!
Great tips & ideas! Love when you include your viewers / subscribers in your videos, It's fun :)
Just subscribed to your channel.
HealthyGroceryGirl ok
Loved this video! I am also a Preschool Teacher. I work at a lower income family center so we never really get gifts. But one thing I wish they would give is thank you cards! My school is open year long and even on holidays (christmas eve, new years eve etc). Just a simple note from the child and parent showing that they appreciate my work means the world! :)
Such a heartfelt, beautiful video. Teachers truly are amazing at what they do everyday and the patient they have is beyond amazing. ❤
Thank you to all the teachers.
Ms.terri looks really sweet
teachers have such a challenging job, everyday is different. they should be paid so much more for what they do. we always give my kids teachers and the nurse gift cards. they have visa gift cards that can be used anywhere. they seem to really appreciate it.
Every year the teacher I get usually get lucky because my parents love to go on trips to Paris, Spain, Italy... so those teacher’s usually get something form the trip. Also I love giving those gifts 🎁 especially when they have bad day’s the smile 😀 is the only gift back I need. I love you teachers from my past and my grade 5 teacher this year.
awww Presley is so cute..The shirt looks so good on you Elle.
The tears are coming!!!
Awww that was sweet ending *tear* Great info for the upcoming school year. ☺
as a pre school assistant teacher, this video was so helpful and sweet! our moving-up ceremony is this monday and I'm so excited yet sad. i know I'm going to cry!
OMG i was choking in the end....that was really precious message by Presley (I hope I spelled it right)
I'm a teacher and heartfelt messages like that one do mean the world to us :-)
It's not something cute but writing a really nice letter to the principal or head of the school to go in the teacher's file can always be a really amazing gift too.
If I was Presley's teacher I would move on to kindergarten and first grade and second grade and third grade and fourth grade and fifth grade then be a middle school teacher then a high school teacher then a collage teacher to stare and be Presley's teacher
That would be a bit creepy
+Lezli Lara 😂😂😂😂
Lol so basically like Mr Feeny in Boy Meets World?? He taught them all the way to college lol!
Queen 22 lol
Rachel soares my teacher did that once Because she didn’t wanna remember new names
I'm an Infant & Toddler educator. we LOVE your kids. they each hold a special place in our hearts. I have to agree that gift certificates are the bomb. Something hand picked by the child is amazing as well. One of my favourite gifts was a little purple JellyCat brand bunny with a ballerina skirt (I've been dancing since I was 10). My little friend who gave it to me said "this is perfect for Sarah!"
Such a nice video. My son isn't old enough for school but I loved the ideas!
Also, I love your shirt!! Where is it from?
My boy isn't in school yet but my mind races towards the future and I remember things like this for years to come so thank you in advance for making this helpful video!
My mum is a teacher and I take all her end of year presents! :)
Hahaha thats what my friend does
Same especially the chocolate x
my dads a teacher i do the same 😂😂
Same
+magnificent meganmarie same
Presley’s message to her teacher made me cry 😭So precious! And then the teacher teared up too.
I remember when I said goodbye to my grade 1 teacher I cried like a water fountain
My mom is a teacher and her first class made her a mirror with each student having a little portion to decorate and we still have it in our bathroom. I think it’s so sweet
Wow she seems like such a lovely women. And how she isn't run down from having life 30 little kids to look after and entertain! omg
twos enough :P
At the end of the year I love giving teachers candles
My teacher loves sweets so I'm baking him a cake for him!
The historic downtown we live in sells Downtown Dollars which are good at any of the downtown businesses that accept them. They are always a great gift for teachers or anyone any time throughout the year because they can use it at any of the shops or restaurants and don't expire. They're also great because they can shop in multiple places. Many downtowns might have this so it is worth looking for.
I remember my first grade teacher she's teaching my younger cousins and yet after 11years she still remembers me
Trinity Nguyen I wish my teachers remembered me...but I'm a quiet kid and give them gifts without letting them know who gave it to them lmao
As a preschool teacher myself, I'm crying. ❤
Not a mom ha guy don't reply guy but like if not a mom
I'm 10
Skye Cress I'm almost 12 lol
Ann is Awesome I'm 10 lol
Cool people never think about how many thing viewers there are I mean like whatsupmoms has so many kids who watch there videos. I mean I was 11 when I posted that and now I'm 13
Ann is Awesome I'm 11 XD
I think jewelry, candles, and gift cards are always the best gift to gift to your teacher. I used to give that kind of stuff but now I'm homeschooled so yeah.
When Presley said reading books who else heard 'beat up bots ' 😜😜😜
I remember I made a bookmark for one of my math teachers before. It took a while to make and I was really proud of how it turned out. Even put a personal message on the back for her and she looked like she wanted to cry when I gave it to her!
Darn I found the cutest apple mug I was going to give to my sons teacher! With a giftcard of course = ]
"I love Ms. Terri so much!" So cuuuuuute!!!
It's hard to get teachers gifts when you get into middle school and high school
I once had 3 kids in the same school. in addition to homeroom teachers, there were teachers for gym, music, art, library, etc.
with permission from the principal, our end of year gift was a last day of school early breakfast - fresh bagels, flavored cream cheese, fresh fruit, juices and coffee for all school staff. it was affordable and very much a huge hit!
I love your shirt Elle! Where is it from?
Emily Schaefer I was thinking the same thing! ☺
It's from Target!! I have the same one :)
Stephanie Shaw Thanks! I just asked Elle. Should've known to read the comments first. :-)
i am ten years old and i always watch this and i love this channel for some reason these things help me with myself
I'm 8 years old but I love to watch
Me too
ThatOneGurl 10 youngies
You're 10 now. I'm 11
once I got a cold kit. it had cough drops, a tea bag, a head pac, and it was all in a coffee mug. it was the best gift ever!!
Oops I got all my teachers a coffee mug 😬🥴
Same
Literally got an ad for what's up moms before this video and did not skip it love you ladies
Of topic here but I NEED to know where your shirt is from... I LOVE it.
cute little video, so nice to interview the teacher :) I am struggling right now on my teacher gift :( I hope to come up with something soon.
Awesome...Target left Canada :( I will have to plan a US trip soon to go see. Thank you for letting me know :)
As a preschool teacher, we want nothing more than to see your child grow and blossom. That being said, gift cards are a safe bet and ALWAYS appreciated. Seriously. Just give me cash (I've actually gotten cash from a parent) or gift card. If you can't afford it, a thoughtful gift from you child is always welcomed as well.
Who's not a Mom but they're subscribed?
Who else thinks Ms. Terry would be an awesome teacher to have? She seems so kind and happy!
Where did you get your shirt from Elle?? It's so cute!
Target
Do you know if they still sell it?
I always made a huge effort. I would bake and ice cookies (not to boast but they looked good, like not just a blob, properly rolled and cut fondant) and pick some flowers from the garden and decorate a jar and write a little note to go with it all.
One year me and my friends named a star after our teacher because we liked him so much
Good tip video. Teachers are precious. I cried a little
"Were poor"! Elle: "You should be"
That's what I heard too, but I listened again and I think she said "You shouldn't be"
Bec 7693 ARMY
She said *you shouldn't be🍒*
perfect! I have been struggling with what get my kids teachers. I think I got the gift card message. :-)
Mh school nurse came to our house once
Cool gifts=hair bands-(printed ones*Michaels store has some), gift cards from Target, Home Goods, Restaurant, or Movies for two. also cute water tumbler for summer, key chains, a movie (comedy or drama) or send a list to kid with a list of things teacher will like. I was a teacher's assistant & kids will ask me what are thing I like or enjoy.
heres a good one
a puppy!!!!!!! or a $100000 dollar bill!!!?
In all seriousness though, you should never give an animal as a gift, especially to someone who is NR expecting it or didn't ask, because they are a huge responsibility.
I can't wait for my niece to start preschool this year, and thank you for another great video about the community of people who love little ones!
This is something random but today my birthday
Happy birthday💝💘💓💖💕💗🎉🎉🎉🎉😀😀😆😆 even doe I don't know you😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆😂😂😂
BuBble Girl Happy birthday i know someone else birthday today too
Happy birthday!
BuBble Girl Happy Birthday!
HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY {how old are you}
Teacher here... (originally a music teacher/later a classroom teacher)... what we DON'T want: anything that centers on stereotypical teaching. Examples: A apple-shaped pencil holder. A pointer for the board. A wreath that says "welcome students". (As for my music teaching years: anything with a treble clef on it). No ornaments. No coffee mugs.
Gift cards ARE nice. Notes from the kids are the BEST!!!
My strangest gift....a cooking pot...just a small sauce pan. I USED it, but didn't expect it. My husband would say "send BAKED GOODS". Me? Not so much.
When I took a few years off to raise my kids - and spent years as a room-mom...the gifts we gave that went over the best: Gift Cards for Mani/Pedis and a canvas director's chair where each student took a rectangular-shaped section, painted their name and something that would symbolize their favorite thing (my son was a young gymnast at the time - his rectangle had his name and a gold olympic-style medal). The teacher used it as her reading chair for the next 10 years.
My teachers always wanted for me to find a new teacher by the next year ;(
So I married one..bwhawhaha..
Righteous Shrugger wtf
I love miss Terri so much too! 😭
We always give crafts, because even if the teacher doesn't keep it or like it, it was something fun and creative my child gets to do for someone else. Sorry teachers. Lol.
Nicole Cooley the gift is meant for the teacher to enjoy after a year's hard work, not only an opportunity for the child to have fun with.
Loulou We've never had a teacher not appreciate the gifts we make. I was simply saying that instead of just blindly buying something they may or may not like that the positive out of it was my child enjoyed their time spent making something for someone else. It teaches them to take time and put thought into the gift for that person instead of buying a gift card and being done with it. I'm not obligated to give anything so I choose to make it a fun experience for my child.
Today is December 21st 2020, teachers are valued at a completely different level now!
These videos from What's Up Moms are so addicting to watch even though I am a child.
What a great video and suggestions for teacher's gifts! I got a little teary eyed at the end. And yes, teachers love gift cards and thoughtful notes!
Ikr my 2nd grade teacher made me cry when i was leaving on the last day and at school i cant past by her without giving her a hug
Scented candles are always a wonderful gift 4 a teacher! I may be in 5th grade but my mum is a teacher so I always know Wat to get my teachers!
Great tips! I teared up too!
I'm studying to become a teacher and this kinda makes me excited ☺️☺️☺️☺️
i swear teachers who are also moms are the most patient people ever
One year one of my moms interns made her a plant pot that had all of her kids fingerprints on it. She still had it to this day and she loves it.
What a simple, elegant and a superb video. Elle you are my role model. I am a mom to a baby girl of 17 months and a RUclipsr from India. Your channel is my inspiration! Keep up the great work and keep smiling!
Awe Ms. Terri seems like such a great teacher!
I'm a student and my class was really mean towards most of my teachers I have to say there the most important people in our world they shape the next generation
First time you guys made me cry! Love you ladies!
Love the video, I work at a summer school and the amount of generic gifts we get are lovely but the super thoughtful ones are so awesome, I still have handwritten cute letters from kids ect from years ago..x
Best gift I got was some Hill Country Tea. ..Now I keep going to their website and keep buying it!!
I totally agree with her on so many things!!! Firstly on coffee mugs, yes, teachers do use coffee mugs but we only change then like one a year(?), we don't need multiple cups to last the whole school year. And baked goods, mmmm yeah, birthdays are celebrated almost every week and after awhile to have to (unfortunately) turn down all the kid's birthday cake as it certainly does not help our waistlines ahem....
Gift cards? Yes yes and yes!
Also a teacher here..gift cards to somewhere like walmart or target are great gifts! as well as cards or something edible..but not candy..like tea or hot chocolate..
My friend once gave my teacher a coffee mug and she loved it because our teacher loves drinking tea and coffee
presley is so cute when she said she love her teacher
We have put hand sanitizer in a jar with and cut outs and wrote hands down you are the best one year.
I know for a lot of my parents money is tight so a end of the year gift isn't in their budget. That's where hand written notes are nice, I feel as teachers the biggest thing we want to hear is that we are appreciated!
What we got teachers- Kindergarten: tote bag with all the kids names on it. 1st grade: silver bookmark with engraved quote on it "It takes a big heart to teach small minds." 2nd grade: scrapbook that all the kids in her class did a page for. 3rd grade - not a good teacher. 4th grade: journals and apple earrings. 5th grade- a big bucket full of supplies and a poster the kids helped me with.
I took my 5 yr old to Build a Bear this year to build a bear for his teacher. We put a sound box in the bears paw of him saying "Thank you Ms. Andrea" . We also got her a pair of dangle ears because she always wears them. She loved both of them.
