I’m white with wavy hair, but once I got really sick for a long time. I couldn’t get out of bed and would often just let water run over me in the shower and lay back in bed with wet hair. I got a huge nasty dreadlock like tangle in the back of my head. All the way to the scalp. The only place willing to even try detangling it instead of shaving it off was a salon for African hair. Even they said it was iffy. A woman from Kenya and an African American woman worked on my hair for 6 hours and managed to actually get it completely out. They weren’t even gonna charge me the whole 6 hrs but obviously I insisted. I couldn’t go back to that salon cause my hair type isn’t their specialty, but I’ll never forget how they refused to give up even when everyone else did.

Straight hair is stronger dry, curly hair is stronger wet. Not 100% sure that's scientifically accurate but it sounds right lol At the very least, wet hair being more pliable helps the curly knots bend out of each other without breaking
@@Angel-xu3ul every place a hair strand changes direction is a weak point and a place where the cuticle lifts and therefore is naturally more porous. This is why curly hair is by default more brittle than straight hair, and why it's a thousand times easier to avoid breakage when the hair bends first when force is applied as opposed to going straight to snapping off at a weak spot. Since curly hair is also very opinionated about where individual strands want to lay, water helps the knot clumps be more open to suggestion on a new arrangement instead of having to literally pull a single strand of hair out of the knot at a time only to end up with a hundred de-knotted hairs that all want to go in contradictory directions and therefore re-knot themselves every fifteen seconds anyway

I used to have locks from 2016 to 2018 100% my hair no extensions, I did it myself and when I took them off with a crochet needle and a comb without anything else, I thought would be harder due to my C4 curls and the humongous amount of hair I have but it was relatively easy and was indeed surprised, I've been wanting to lock them again but at the same time I don't know if I want to spend 3 days locking my hair 🤣🤣 usually breading takes around 8-10 hours
FYI…Locs require a DETOX…because yes…like Brad mentioned, it’s like “dirt” “debris” so it’ll accumulate..which will require getting a monthly detox or every two months..it’s definitely preventable if you take proper care.

I haven’t moved from my bed or watched anything else. I have a problem. It’s a great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless 😅 Happy Mondo Sunday 🎉
I love these videos even though it makes me sad. I used to manage a Super Cuts, but I can't do hair anymore because I broke my back and it is impossible to cut hair from a wheelchair. I started cutting hair when I was 10 and got my license at 22 and did hair for 20+ years. Gosh I miss doing hair so much. I was a specialist in creative perms and wow I miss it.
Wow...the 2nd woman with possible mold in her locs! Yikes! That can happen if you're not cleaning your locs properly and most importantly, not letting them dry completely. Locs take forever to dry and you gotta make sure they're dry inside (use a hair dryer or sit under a dryer) the locs not just feeling dry on the outside. Leaving them damp inside for too long will encourage mold growth and other nasties.
I had locs for I think 5 years before they started to hurt my head whenever I washed them. It took them 1-3 days to dry and the weight of them wet was just too much, no matter what I did to try and relieve some of the pull. I did consider cutting them short and then brushing them out, but eventually decided to cut them all off. Kudos to everyone who goes through the detangling. You are much more patient than me.
The mold is from just regular life stuff. You shower to wash your scalp, the dreads get wet, and they're too dense to dry on their own, so they get mildew. I had a friend who bought one of those hot-air caps specifically to use after washing her scalp, and she was able to keep the mold mostly at bay, but it was never truly gone. This was white hair, though, and that's where my experience ends.
Christina Randal is an amazing woman! ❤️✨ Been following her for 2 years now 🙋🏼♀️ 🌟 She's a crime history teller and she's one of the best one 🙌🏼 ❤️ Next to Mr Ballen of course 🥰 Love you Brad 💋 Sending all my love and support from Norway 🇳🇴
Hair is hair. We all have it and we should ALL be able to style it however we want without there being a problem. All of is cone from all over the world and we share our knowledge and cultures. Its beautiful and it brings us together. ❤❤❤
how to clean you lock/ dreads: step1: put water in a hair bowl. step2: pour apple cider vinegar in the water while dreads are in the water make sure to get all over your hair. step3: put baking soda on all in your hair. step4: the get a lemon and squeeze the lemon juice all in your hair. step5: rinse and wash with shampoo of choice
I've had locks 12 years now. I cut them and combed them out three years ago. It took me 72 hours, it sucked so bad. My hair was still super long, super healthy. I put them back in last year.
Christina is amazing. She now has the most beautiful hair. She is also always so positive. I'm not surprised that she's so positive about it. My sister had dreads and she just shaved and started over.
I had locs for 13 yrs, and during a mentally low part of my life, I decided to comb them out. Took me 3 weeks, and 4 bottles of conditioner (mixed with coconut oil and detangling spray)..... boy was that one of the worse decisions of my life 🤣 I am 4 months into my new loc journey and I have been loving it ❤ I'm not going to let them go past my shoulders to prevent the neck pain 😅 one thing a realized is that the more mature the locs are, the harder it is to comb out. My niece had her 1 yr old locs combed out also and it took her mother 3hrs 😂😂
I feel like for type 4 hair, wetting it is easier cause it allows for the comb to glide through.. At least in my experience. And conditioner helps release the knots easier
Hi @Brad Mondo, I enjoy all of ur videos. I had locks on for 5 years as well, 80 strands to be exact, and it took me 2 weeks to take it down. I saturated each strand with coconut conditioner and it made the process easier it did not hurt my scalp at all
I had dreadlocks for 5 years, 37 blonde, long down to the butt and gorgeous dreads. Took me 6 months to remove them all. Almost gave up many times but the feeling of running my fingers through my hair again was priceless. Washing tip: once every couple of months rubbing them with a little champoo, never conditioner.
To properly wash locs you should wet the locs. Put shampoo and clean the scalp and locs. The denser the locs the more shampoo you will need to lather up the locs. And you may need to repeat the wash 2-3 times to produce a good lather. You have to rinse them extremely well. You should not really use conditioner on locs as conditioner sticks to the locs. Use apple cider vinegar and oils if you want to add moisture to your locs or soften them. And it is very important to dry them very well with a towel.... If the towel gets too wet get a new dry towel.... And repeat the process until the locks are as dry as you can get them because leaving excess water in the locks is what causes mold.
I used Cowboy Magic concentrated detangler on dry hair when I combed out my 13yr old dreadlocks, and also cut a lot of the length off after combing the first one out and realizing how much length I'd be losing from all the loose hair falling out anyway.
My sister brushed all my dreads out for me dress by dread and my hair was down to my butt. Omg I am soooo thankful to her. She even gave me a super cute haircut afterwards. She’s not even a stylist. Thank you sis!! ❤️❤️
When you're removing your locs, it is quite painful. You'll be pulling on your hair that's right on your scalp, and it's hours and hours of work, especially if you are detangling them by yourself You have headaches, the scalp will be hurting, and the hair is very weak and brittle with split ends.. Saying goodbye to your locs is the hardest thing to do, but it's also the start of a beautiful journey of rediscovering who you are without them... I'm proud of each and every one of these ladies ❤️ Welcome to the club 💯💇♀️💇🏻♀️💇🏽♀️💇🏾♀️
My best friend put in my partial set of locs and then passed away 4yrs ago. At 44 I’m pretty sure they aren’t coming off unless it’s medically necessary. I had dreads in my early 20s and just shaved my head when I felt it was time. I would never have the patience to brush them out.
Something similar to this, close to Lauren’s situation happened to me. I was hospitalized and basically unconscious 99% of the time for 3 months. For whatever reason the staff didn’t take proper care of my hair. To be fair, I’m not sure if it was considered one of their responsibilities or if I refused. Either way I ended up with basically one giant dreadlock. My daughter arrived to help take care of me (I was getting released soon) and immediately jumped in to try and untangle everything. It wasn’t possible and my head was basically shaved off. That was almost 2.5 years ago now & I am finally getting my hair back.
This is a totally spiritual thing for me, I’ve had dreads around 15-20 different times in my life for times of 2-6 months at a time. The time I spend combing them out is my prayer and meditation time. I’ve spent 36 hours at most combing them out (obviously broken up into sessions). It’s like a weird therapeutic spiritual addicting feeling of combing them out. Sometimes I do it with no tools. Just my fingers. To prolong the time I get to spend feeling the release.
Mold happening in hair with locks is disturbingly common - my cousin's hair totally went moldy. It means they haven't been properly cared for. Apparently, salt water does a good job of keeping the mold away
I think that using conditioner for 3 or 4c hair to remove locs make sense. As the hair is so different to like, 1a hair or whatever straight smooth hair is, i don't think the wet-hair=breakage is the same thing. Also 3 to 4c hair is the best hair for locs as it's kinky, bouncy, and that allows air through the locs. So i think it's one rule for others or whatever, conditioner for black people with locs is better and releases them easier in a healthier way than without, but it's not the best for white people's hair because it'll cause elasticity and breakage to the fine and straight strands, etc. As well, this woman seems like she's Jamaican, so i would consider any black Jamaican person with gorgeous locs a loc expert, but probably for black hair only. So you called for a loc expert, but as i said a black Jamaican would be an expert on locs for black hair. A loc expert who's white may not know as well, but then this Jamaican woman probably wouldn't know anything about white people locs and how to avoid them getting mouldy, because black people's hair is for locs and doesn't go mouldy.
Brad Hi my name is Lilly and I stumbled across your page and saw that you were teaching ladies the BUTTERFLY cut.... I'm 55 have shoulder length hair and THICK,THICK and I been doing that exact cut on myself for 30 years .... I am so shocked to see that someone has been able to use this cut.
OMG, when I read the title, the first person I thought of was Christina! I was so excited to see she made your video! I have been following her for 7 years. She is an absolute doll. If you love true crime, check her out.❤
When I removed my locs after 5 years, it took me 10 days, 2 bottles of conditioner, 2 rat tail combs and I wound up with a gallon size ziploc bag of all the loose hair. Lol ut was a process but im happy with the result.
The white stuff in there is not always mold! Most of th times its just resedue from the shampoo or dandruff. I brushed out my locks three times already and never had mold. And yes it takes forever but is totally worth it :)
Back in the day of 90's Punk, Grunge, Freak culture we used beeswax and it kept them clean. Edit to add: I used conditioner to remove my 1 yr old dreads, it took over 2 years to get back my natural thickness.
Don’t have locs but I do have 5feet of exceptionally thick hair. When I go swimming put it in 1 huge braid and I definitely find a gentle touch, a LOT of patience and a ton of conditioner is the way to efficient and non-damaging detangling
When I first met my boyfriend, he had dreads till his hips. He has naturally thick, curly hair. He decided to get rid of them after three years for they were really high maintenance (drying took ages, he started swimming regularly and the hair stored the chlorine, causing a bad smell and ear infections etc.). He shaved his head and lost 3kg of hair.
I feel like the girl with the half blonde locks that took two weeks looks like she's taken incredibly good care if her locks and the way she's shape them was very intentional so they came out in a more organized way then the others so her conditioner method due to how well her locks were maintained to begin with and how careful she was removing them was great. She also just has amazing hair and her dad helping was too sweet!!
I love how you reacted to a Christina Randal episode! She covers a lot of really interesting true crime content. It's pretty awesome to see two of my favorite RUclips stars in the same video! 🤩

I haven’t moved from my bed or watched anything else. I have a problem. It’s a great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless 😅 Happy Mondo Sunday 🎉
Oh to do nothing but watch videos morning to night….. don’t have a baby it will never happen again lol 😜
It’s because they are dirty
Dreds are dirty
@@nowirehangers2815 nope, the last girl was clean and kept, white people with straight hair cant wash locs properly or they will undo
Been following her for 2 years now 🙋🏼♀️ 🌟 She's a crime history teller and she's one of the best one 🙌🏼 ❤️ Next to Mr Ballen of course 🥰 Love you Brad 💋 Sending all my love and support from Norway 🇳🇴
I’ve watched that mr ballen guy a couple of times but felt like his videos are made for kids, am I wrong?
@@missbelle13222definitely not for kids lol
@@missbelle13222 then you should hear some more 🙋🏼♀️ my kid is not allowed watching him 😂 try his last video 🙌🏼 much love ❤️❤️
I loved seeing their curls all being so healthy after!
Hair is hair. We all have it and we should ALL be able to style it however we want without there being a problem. All of is cone from all over the world and we share our knowledge and cultures. Its beautiful and it brings us together. ❤❤❤
I love Christina, I watch her youtube channel all the time.
Same!
The videos she's done about her prison time were so good and so emotional. She's such a lovely genuine person 💕
how to clean you lock/ dreads:
step1: put water in a hair bowl.
step2: pour apple cider vinegar in the water while dreads are in the water make sure to get all over your hair.
step3: put baking soda on all in your hair.
step4: the get a lemon and squeeze the lemon juice all in your hair.
step5: rinse and wash with shampoo of choice
I've had locks 12 years now. I cut them and combed them out three years ago. It took me 72 hours, it sucked so bad. My hair was still super long, super healthy. I put them back in last year.
Nnnoooooooo
These ladies look so beautiful with their locs and without them with their natural hair.
There are professionals who care for and take locks out for a living. Its a very cultural experience. 🎉
Brad looks good with natural shaggy hair. Sometimes less product is better.
That last girl is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
That’s not mold, that’s product buildup. And you can detox your locs to deep clean them and take out buildup
That last girl was _gorgeous._ Hair? Perfect. Face? Perfect. Voice? Perfect. I wonder how it feels to be that beautiful lol
IDK if this is weird, but Brad has the most gorgeous neck/chest... ! More open neck sweaters please!
I love Christina, I started watching her when she had the locs and still do, still a little weird for me seeing her without locs 😂
I used Cowboy Magic concentrated detangler on dry hair when I combed out my 13yr old dreadlocks, and also cut a lot of the length off after combing the first one out and realizing how much length I'd be losing from all the loose hair falling out anyway.
I need more of these type of videos the transformations are crazy awesome
My sister brushed all my dreads out for me dress by dread and my hair was down to my butt. Omg I am soooo thankful to her. She even gave me a super cute haircut afterwards. She’s not even a stylist. Thank you sis!! ❤️❤️
Holy shit, Brad. PLEASE, make your background just a few tones warmer, I wanna chill in bed and my eyes burn because of how bright your videos are 😂
Orange would go well with the hot pink desk
Ohhh ma gwad its my girl Christina Randal! Ughh I love her! Im glad you covered her video 💞
I have always wondered what it would feel like to have dreads. Everyone looked great before and after.
When you're removing your locs, it is quite painful. You'll be pulling on your hair that's right on your scalp, and it's hours and hours of work, especially if you are detangling them by yourself
You have headaches, the scalp will be hurting, and the hair is very weak and brittle with split ends..
Saying goodbye to your locs is the hardest thing to do, but it's also the start of a beautiful journey of rediscovering who you are without them...
I'm proud of each and every one of these ladies ❤️
Welcome to the club
💯💇♀️💇🏻♀️💇🏽♀️💇🏾♀️
So happy you included Christina, I love her channel and yours the most ❤️. She's a great crime storyteller!
My best friend put in my partial set of locs and then passed away 4yrs ago. At 44 I’m pretty sure they aren’t coming off unless it’s medically necessary. I had dreads in my early 20s and just shaved my head when I felt it was time. I would never have the patience to brush them out.
Sending my love
That final hair is FIRE, girl! So amazingly gorgeous!!
Mold happening in hair with locks is disturbingly common - my cousin's hair totally went moldy. It means they haven't been properly cared for. Apparently, salt water does a good job of keeping the mold away
I love you, Brad! Your energy is beautiful!
I find ticks all the time in my dogs spiderweb of a tail all the time and it makes me want to shave all her fur because it gives me SHIVERS
Christina Randall is that girllll! Her crime videos are so good!!
Christina finally made it into a Brad Mondo video!!
I'm going on ten years of natural locks.... omg I can't even imagine taking them out right now 😩 i would probably just shave my head lol
OMG, when I read the title, the first person I thought of was Christina! I was so excited to see she made your video! I have been following her for 7 years. She is an absolute doll. If you love true crime, check her out.❤
Omg the last girls hair looks so cute. Her reveal was definitely my fav. 😍
The woman in the last video is STUNNING. She looks good no matter what she does with her hair.
Having Brad calling me beautiful just mad my day 🩷
When I removed my locs after 5 years, it took me 10 days, 2 bottles of conditioner, 2 rat tail combs and I wound up with a gallon size ziploc bag of all the loose hair. Lol ut was a process but im happy with the result.
The white stuff in there is not always mold! Most of th times its just resedue from the shampoo or dandruff. I brushed out my locks three times already and never had mold. And yes it takes forever but is totally worth it :)
The fact you put Christina in your video made me SOOO happy she’s my favorite RUclipsr!!!❤
Aghhh Christina Randall!! I love her!
Oh I love Christina Randall!
Aww I remember watching Christina Randall’s video of her taking her locs out when she first did it. She’s gorgeous either way!
Ahhh Christina Randall!!! She’s amazing! She is a RUclipsr and does true crime!
I love how you reacted to a Christina Randal episode! She covers a lot of really interesting true crime content. It's pretty awesome to see two of my favorite RUclips stars in the same video! 🤩
I watch Christina’s channel I love this cross over ❤
•Apple cider vinegar
•Baking soda
• salt
• Lime
Soak in warm water, repeat till water is clear
Loving the diversity. Appreciate you calling them locs as well. & was awesome to see you react to Christina 🤍
Love that little beard that's going on in your face, Brad. Looks really good!! 😍
I’ve always loved when people undo their locs 😍😍😍
I took my box braids out after having them for about 6 weeks and I had to do it over 3 days. By the end I couldn’t wait to get them out and run my hands through my hair again
A stylist I know said every time she is asked to cut off dreads, they have mold in them. 🤢
It's because those people didn't look after their locs , well maintained locs are NOT mouldy and don't smell.
The last girl probably could look stunning with any hair, she's just so beautiful.
