- Winning a major reality show is not guaranteed to lead to an easy life, as American Idol victor Fantasia Barrino will tell you. Barrino won the third season of the singing contest back in 2004, but the thrill of victory may have been short-lived. Her father took her to court for her 2005 memoir Fantasia: Life is Not a Fairytale, unhappy with the way it portrayed him. In addition, Barrino almost died of an overdose in 2010, before being saved by her manager.

Nicki Swift unfortunately my three didn’t win but they did go on to have great musical artists. They are Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert and one who actually won, Carrie Underwood! I watched Idol the year she was on there and she is so very talented. It’s so sad to hear how she was taken for granted by the people that you think would have your best interests at heart. I pray that she is able to bounce back and have so much respect for Tyler Perry for being there for her financially and spiritually. He has such a kind and loving heart and God bless him for all he has done for Fantasia and other people of Atlanta that he has been there for. God bless both of them and I pray that they will both continue to help people spiritually and lovingly.

It's too bad the industry has moved away from real flat-foot powerhouse singers who give it their all, and instead opt for less than mediocre twerk culture. She should have way more success. Hopefully, one day we'll shift gears back into real talent so she can rise again.

Who exactly was it that wrote the rule that once you make it to the top that you are obligated to take care of everyone else? Fantasia worked hard for her money and so should everyone else. It's not fair that most people have this mind set that once you make it big then the rest of the family can sit back & be lazy while you work your butt off to clothe, feed and buy them anything that they want. That's a lot of pressure for one person.
Agreed. No one's obligated to donate nor share any of their assets just because they're networth is high. It's pathetic that some families feel entitled to one's assets instead of just being happy for seeing one of their own's hard work finally being paid off.
Unfortunately it seems that in the Black/Latin/Caribbean community there's a thing were it is a obligation for whomever makes it out of the ''Hood'' and ''Ghetto'' must come back and help/get the rest out.

I'm a humble good hearted person but these thick and chocolate celebrities want some one on their level, I think the world of this lady but alas all i have to offer is love and loyalty.
I started following and having hope for Fantasia on American Idol. Because she was from High Point, NC, and I lived a 5-10 miles away in Greensboro, I loved what she was doing for our community. It was also inspiring that she was a single mom and wanting to help her family.
I am pretty sure I saw her going into a clinic in Charlotte a few weeks ago, I almost went up to her to say 'hello', but did not to protect her privacy. As a financial advisor in Greensboro for 25 years, I recently retired to be near my grandchildren in Charlotte area. As a fan and as a Christian, it would be amazing to offer any guidance for her, as much or as little. Of course, there would be zero costs or expectations, as she should be very careful of anyone.

I didn't watch American Idol religiously due to working; but, I was able to watch the final contests of Fantasia and Rueben Studdard. I was really impressed with their talents.
Sadly, Fantasia experienced some of the pitfalls that many entertainers and regular people face in life. The entertainment industry is full of sharks and charlatans. Many of these younger singers need to look for mentorship. Little Richard spoke about how he was swindled out of millions of dollars. This is an age old tale about stardom. I am glad that Tyler Perry is helping Fantasia with her financial situation with money management and professional advice.
