everybody who keeps saying that it's all about the suspension work is correct. However, the reason this car has such a soft suspension, is to allow it to squat as it takes off the line increasing off the line acceleration, to cut down the 60 foot time. the same reason that they let air out of the tires to allow for more traction and more sidewall flex. Because as it flexes it bleeds off some of that energy and allows for the contact patch of the tire just a planted at all times. if the suspension was super stiff, at launch all of the energy would be on the tires and there's no way he'd get traction on those small slicks
Boosted speed demon is right ..it needs better tires..they was too skinny for its power to weigh ratio it had and he's right about the suspension too..
Remember, that entire time of all the races he couldn't control the supra. If he had mord PSI and good handling, that thing would be literal death. Hell, it would possibly be able to make it less than 9 seconds possibly
+Sam Johnson Ayyy lmao you damn right. Anyone who has driven a high HP car with shit traction knows it's one HELL of a handful. That guy is working HARD the whole way down the track. Lol
Yeh but then it becomes a stiff ass street ride ,unless you change out the springs to race ,but not worth it if its a daily driver it could use a four link setup
+Dane m get adjustable coil overs which you can adjust ride hight and dampening of the springs so you can adjust it for street driving and make it ride like a caddy and at the track make it handle like a ferrari F1 car
I loved watching 1:40 or whatever and on, when the "star" the black Supra runs on the gray one with the 'chute... I'm not knocking the black one at all, they are both stupid fast; but watch how planted and stable the gray one looks, that's what the black one should be doing. What does it need? A lot of everything many people have posted before me, lol. Also, those 9-9.5" or so looking tires would be the first to go!
reason its uncontrollable, its a stick, which means one hand on the wheel. if only there was a way to drop a twin clutch in there it'd fix that uncontrollability, but it may not be as fast, but it may be faster. idk, it just amazes me how fast you can make a supra go.
SUPERTIGERG3 you dont know what youre talking about. the cars lightweight, over 1000hp, controlling the car is going to be hard, auto or stick. that doesnt even matter when it comes to controlling the car. and the suspension is okay, keeping it too stiff in the rear will cause it to spin more. and tires are wheels are fine. hes on drag slicks on the rear and skinnies on the front, like every drag car.
its not the fact that its even a stick, pletty of stick cars leave great, its the fact that the rear end has to much rebound and every time he leaves or shifts the rear end plants then bounces right back up and it hazes the tires making it skate
so what you just said, contradicted your first statement. the reason the end plants is because of the engine power on the wheels, and then shifts, it moves too. if it were a automatic or even a dual clutch it wouldn't move its drive straight. if you knew anything on how transmissions, and their clutches work, than you would know that it is the fact its a stick that causes the mass movement on the drag strip.
id like to see it go with a 12 slick maybe a taller tire, they look like 10.5s and the only real issue I see is hes spinning.. blaming it on being standard is weak sauce
I will never understand the obsession with Supras... They're beautiful and all, but they just cannot put power down to save a life. A 1000+hp Supra and a 750hp Cobra both run 9's.
Personally I love Supras. I can understand those who don't. To me the biggest appeal is the 2JZ engine in it. You can make huge power without really too much work. the bottom end of the block can take a shit ton of boost too. Single turbo, new manifold, injectors, ignition, ect. you can make 500-800hp roughly.
@Nbx33 idk how to send private msgs, sorry, but the answer to your question is they are a totally different machine, see the length of them for 1, that's why they are built that way very long wheelbase for alot of hp, 2 they are straight drag vehicles, 3 they run the widest slicks available and 4th man, because if a top fuel dragster breaks traction for a split second they back off and the run is over you know, they do not stay on the gas.
Yeah exactly, it's pretty difficult especially when trying to shift hard. I would probably put a Le Mans style rear spoiler (the one that looks like it's splitting the car in half) in order to help it stay straight at really high speeds.
I'm not sure if that's the case or not. From the looks of it, He's just counter steering. To me the car looks to be making 1400hp maybe with spray off the line. If that's the case all the driving in the world isn't going to hold the car straight. I've been in a car making somewhere around that. I promise you that driver has the biggest balls in the world. The first time it would have got Squirrley.. Most ppl let off and play with it to the finish line.
Chris Hatcher I don't know, I've seen cars go straighter with the front wheels in the air. If you put the time and money into it, you can get that car to hook up and go straight.
Now that I think about it your right. Because that guys car I was in put basically straight marks down on the road. It doesn't do what this guys going. I've looking on the net trying to find information on the car. But I'm pulling up nothing. It seems like the car is to dangerous to be driving it like that in the track. If I could find information on car it'll be great. When I showed someone the video they did Say.. Looks like a driver error.
I've retired from racing Super Comp and Comp Eliminator cars but I would love to see more of this type of small engine turbo car in NHRA & IHRA sanctioned classes. The power & potential is there. And the are some interesting possibilities in Comp Elim for some import vs big block V8 races. I'm not being factitious when I say come show of BB Chevy guys some new things.
Which Z? I've got a stock 350z and I was neck and neck with an auto TT, so I hardly think they bite the dust (thought I do agree with 2012 Boxters, I pull on them regularly). I love supras, don't get me wrong (once I get the 350z cleaned up a bit, I intend on selling it to use it as a down payment for one), but they aren't the end all best car.
How am I ignorant? I agree with everything you said. I said stiff suspension, you say low rebound, they both accomplish the same goal of reducing tire spin at launch and shift points right?
This car needs beefier suspension, wider slicks, and a locking differential or preferably a spool. Biggest issue at the start is the tendency to slam the rear to the ground. Down the track, the lack of traction is whats causing the sloppiness. Just adding traction alone would drop the E.T. by a decent margin. You can actually see the burnt rubber all the way to the line. Beefing the suspension on top of the added traction would make this thing a cannon out of the hole.
Wider back tires stiffer shocks and anti roll bars it will help it from hoping side to side and a short throw shifter or something to make it to where dudes hands are in wheel at all time
i'd have to agree with you as well. It also seemed as though his suspension was too soft for drag racing judging by how much bouncing the car did at each shift until 4th gear.
The reason what he drifts left and right like that is because the rear isn't stiff enough.. he needs to weld the controls straight to the frame of the car and prolly weld in a couple more support beams to stiffen it up a little more. That way when he smashes on it, and shifts the weight transfer from front to rear doesn't knock the car sideways.
Not defending the guy, but he's talking about tuning the suspension. Like adjusting the dampers perhaps higher rate springs and shocks. He is correct. And you must not have read his full post cause its mentioned damping at the end.
No its 2step, its a pre set rev limiter so you can launch a car with boost. Anti-lag is actually a system where there is an extra spark plug igniting unburnt fuel before the exhaust inlet on the turbo to keep it rotating during shifts in a race.

I have never in my life heard of thought or that. There are a ton of Supras running their exhaust like that that stay straight. Maybe a combo of exhaust and suspension setup?
Crazy crazy stuff... That car is stupid fast. He's running 7's easy. He's just messing around with that beast. I can't even dream of how hard that thing is to control.

just what I was about to say. the suspension keeps unloading and putting the weight forward. if they properly set it up it would load the weight onto the rear wheels providing excellent traction.
some supra's were so fast they took flight and were never seen again, that's why they are so rare nowadays lol

Good diff, suspension and chassis stiffening go a long way when u are running 9s.
I would think the only way to run a car with this much power would be to put a spool in the rear. Diff clutches would fly apart, no?

I agree. And I'd like to know more about the rear suspension because there's a lot more time to be found in that launch.
