Hi! Iadmire tony janello as a crayon artist, and i am too, do you want to see my few works? I don't know how to expose my works b cos i am not a profesaional artist as of now im a struggling artist please help me inroduce my works,,,thank you
I always found it interesting that people have issues using color because I love using color and it's what I've always been comfortable with. Maybe it's because I don't try to bother myself with picture perfect realism. Of course I'll draw from life for practice, but personal works of mine are always from my own mind, it makes the works more personal to me. I also really love it when artist sneak in unorthodox colors in their works, it truly brings artworks to life that black and white works can't accomplish.

Hi, thanks for watching! It's possible in the future if we receive more robust funding that we may be able to have longer artist interviews. Thanks for your interest, it's on our wishlist!
Came here via the link in the discord. How did I miss this video before? (Or maybe I didn't and can't remember 🙁). What a lovely, humble and amazingly talented, creative man. It must have been wonderful to take his classes.
I love the way you present the two self-portraits side-by-side and note the similarities in the posture and gaze. It brings to mind the different ways we consider the body or our own bodies at different stages of life. And I interpret much of the approach he took in the latest version as way of exploring his own feelings about his body as he ages, the words and images referring to medical conditions or parts of the body that have problems. Very interesting contrasts. When we are young our relationship to the body has more to do with what it looks like and what it can do athletically/sexually, and exploring its possibilities, as we grow older its more about what it cannot do and how parts or systems of the body present limitations.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply! Another person I like looking at is Rembrandt, who did soooooo many self-portraits, so fun to compare the ones when he was younger vs. the ones he did at the end of his life. -Prof Lieu
What a great interview. Thanks so much for sharing ... now off to watch your demo on his style. I think I'd like to use this technique with my high schoolers!
Great! We have 2 courses on Artprof.org that demonstrate how to draw with crayons: a still life course: artprof.org/courses/drawing-in-color-still-life/ and also a self-portrait from life course: artprof.org/courses/self-portrait-from-life/. We give you all the info you need to do the process from beginning to end!
Hello, I'm a crayon artist myself. I work with paper. I'm exploring ways to seal/protect the final pieces. I see here that he uses an acrylic fixative in between layers but I was wondering if he uses any type of final sealer? Thanks.
Is it safe to use hardboard bought at a hardware store? I've heard they can warp over the years... I want to make large pieces and using expensive artist quality boards isn't economical
Hello there . it is rely . I had seam experience but with the acrylic and crayon. its rely nice for me it was like doing sculpture .I would like to know on which materials Mr. Tony Janello painting .It is not a canvas, its look like carton board. Am I right? And Thank you

Great interview, several good points to consider. Tony has a great sense of humor.

I don’t think so? I could be wrong, but not that I’m aware of. -Prof Lieu
wow, he was my professor at RISD 19866-1991 time period.

Depends, there are so many different types! I like the art boards that Ampersand makes, very sturdy: ampersandart.com/-Prof Lieu
What are the best crayons for fine art paper, for making fine abstract art on paper? ? (Not Crayola pls)
I recommend Caran d’Ache! -Prof Lieu
@@artprof thanks,!

Tony draws on untempered Masonite! -Prof Lieu

Janello is using untempered masonite on his paintings, it's a wonderful, durable surface for crayon drawings.
Wow:)
awesome :)
5:08 Great artist. Not the best mathematician. Or comedian.
