For all the shots when Chris and Paulie were sitting in the van at night, it was shot on a sound stage at Silver Cup Studios. They had to act like they were cold and their breath was added digitally. Never would be able to tell if they didn't say it on their Sopranos podcast.

*Fun fact* It was Steve Buscemi who directed this episode and he was the one who threw the steak that hit Tony. 🥩

49:27 The final scene with Patsy was a nod to The Godfather (leave the gun, take the conolis). These guys live two completely different lives. They can do murder, then sit down to dinner with the wife and kids without missing a beat.
    * The Sopranos is a brilliantly written show . I should know, I've watched every episode 25 times. Seriously though, thanks for doing these, I hope you are enjoying it.

I'm not convinced Ralphie does know Jackie will try and emulate the story he tells them; but The Sopranos loves to keep things ambiguous, so who knows? Also, in the scene between Tony and Ralphie, neither guy wants to be the one who sentences Jackie to death, so they both try and pass the buck to each other. Ralphie may be a monster, but he also grew up with Jackie senior, and he doesn't want Jackie junior's blood on his hands.
The final scene of Amour Fou is a little misleading. It's meant to show Patsy, who has just threatened to murder a woman, just going on with day to day life. But everyone watching for the first time expects some kind of Glenn Close in the bath tub moment.

  • @EliBrigante
    @EliBrigante 9 месяцев назад +2

My opinion of the last scene of Amour Fou is simply David Chase playing on Patsys line “It won’t be cinematic.” After a really dark episode, Chase decides to have some fun, and end it in the most cinematic way possible. Showing the duality of a stone cold killer, by talking to his wife about groceries, driving off into the sunset 😂 at least that’s my go at it

It's fun how the Sopranos writers maintain the respective characters' quirks and hangups. Like Paulie's obsession with bacteria and hygiene, first thing he asks when Chris finds the condiment packs is "are they clean?"
Stuff like that grounds a TV series, and makes a great show stand out from the background noise of all the rest. I can't choose any favorite episode (there's too many of 'em), but "Pine Barrens" is amazing, so well written, and the characters are so intense and well acted. Paulie and Chris are the old married couple who can't live with one another and can't live without one another. Sophisticated, spiritual Gloria cracks as we watch, and the fallout is near-explosive. Tony always manages to pick all the wrong ones, somehow.
Also, AJ slouching forgotten on the couch, as his father roars angrily into his phone about the "package", and if it might have "survived"... You wonder what that does to a kid.

Tony Sirico (Paulie) would not let anyone touch his hair, so he always did it himself. They always had to tell new hair and makeup people or else they would get an earful when they started touching it. Can only imagine what he felt about this episode

By all reports, he hated it.

    • @darth856

Sopranos writer Terence Winter told an amusing story about that:
"And there's a bit when Paulie loses his shoe and rolls down a hill and the stuntman who did the stunt was wearing a wig that looked exactly like Tony Sirico's hair. And when the stuntman got up, his hair is completely disheveled. So I said, “Just look at his hair.” I said, “That's what I need you to do.” He's like, “I'm not doing that.” And after having worked with him for so long I knew that the way to get him to do something was tell him it's really going to be scary, or it's really going to be funny. I said, “Tony, it's going to be so fucking funny for people to see you with your hair messed up. No one has ever seen you like this.” And he went, “All right, you c***sucker” and he put his hands through his hair. And he completely fucked up his hair and it stayed like that for the rest of the episode."

They showed Patsy at the end getting groceries because after just threatening Gloria as a cold hearted killer they showed him as a loving husband there's a duality.

😂"Pine Barrens" is my top Sopranos' episode. If somehow you hadn't already figured out the the weakest links in the "Waste Management" crew.......here ya go. Interior Ministry.....Interior Decorator😂😂😂 Directed by Buscemi who knows a little something about ❄ snow jobs gone wrong😆 Gloria is definitely a Stage 5 Clinger😂(Wedding Crashers lingo) and Jackie Jr just can't stop himself when it comes to horrible decisions.....he squanders any opportunity to go in the opposite direction from his Dad's world.

On the point about Janice's taste in men and the scene about Tony chasing after his mom in his side pieces: you notice how Janice is chasing after her dad? Anyone, as long as they give her that "special little girl" feeling, and the ability to manipulate them like her mother did to Johnny, giving her that sense of control and power. The ones she can't manipulate or demean or make feel small, she dumps. The 19 year old, Richie, this guy, future ones...

Ralph does like getting at Tony. But if something happens to Jackie Jr, his relationship with Rosalie will be effected negatively. So I'm not convinced that he wanted Jackie to do that. Now Tony has put the decision on him, and Ralph is in a no-win situation: if he gives Jackie a pass, everyone in the mob family will hate him. But if he kills him, Rosalie will obviously be devastated.

Well, the guy's a narcissistic psychopath, there's no way he would have turned out normal no matter what. Not with the broken genes he got loaded down with from conception. Look at any of the guys in orbit around Tony, they're damaged goods the lot of 'em. Bobby too, he's just not as volatile as the rest of 'em.
